The problem with eye damage in welding aluminum is because the UV light, being bright anyway, is reflected off the aluminum,which intensifies it. Think of how easy it is to get a sunburn while you're on a boat.Same principle.
ive got a 120 amp mig welder, its an OIZTO brand i think native to australia, if a 110 does 1/8 inch do you think i might be able to get away with a quarter inch if i work slowly?

Ive been welding for quite some times, and I say that molten pieces of metal falling on you while grinding or welding odd angles are far worse.
