  • Hi Francis, Greetings from India. Your Video is very informative. I am going to build a small studio for myself. Room dimension is 11'6"X13'6". I am going to use the same room for recording as well as mixing. I am taking help from local interiors to get this room soundproof and shall follow your methodology to do the accoustics in this room. I would like to record whole band in this room itself. Do you think this room would be ideal for me to start with. Thanks

  • come do mine!!!!

  • Does the window behind the monitors affect anything?

  • thanks man very good info.;-)

  • lucky bastard having them Event monitors

  • I hope you guys do come to the Atlanta, Ga area. I live outside of Atlanta and I NEED HELP! LOL! I will be submitting my plea this week for my to rescue my studio. Wonderful information....

  • can you come to my house?

  • luck bastard with the event opals!!!! AHHHHHHH

  • Hey Francis, I rent a lofted room in a loft and its pretty big around 20' x 10'. I wanted to make a bit of "studio" space but the only place I have it is in an area with a half wall on two sides. I can't use the other end as I need "privacy" as it is my bedroom ;). Essentially I am stuck facing a wall, with one half wall directly to my left, one 7' behind and the 15' room to my right. I'm at a loss. Ideas?

  • Opal from event wow...

  • HI Francis, i have been watching all your videos and have found them very informative. I am looking to build a studio in my house in the UK, it the room is currently about 12 ft long by 6 ft 6 wide with a smallish window at one end. I was hoping to build a vocal booth at the window end which would be a partition wall about 3 1/2 feet from the end. This would leave me a room size of about 8ft by 6 ft 6.

Is this big enough for a studio. which way would be best to place speakers. Thanks

  • @jobbitydun 8' X 6'6" whilst not being ideal is more than enough for a mixing space, it compares to the type of size room broadcast audio deals with on a day to day basis in their outside broadcasts trucks. The speaker placement should be along the 6'6" length at least 1" away from any wall. This would give a space between the speakers of 4'6" which should be a good distance to create an equilateral triangle between the listening spot (where you are sitting) and the two speakers.

  • @jobbitydun In such a small space reflections and standing waves are going to be an issue so good sound treatment is essential. The first place to treat is at the point along the wall of first reflection, (there's some great tips in Studio Rescue for finding this). The second thing to look at is sound de-fusion at the back wall, and finally I would want to look at bass traps in the corners. Good luck and thanks for watching!

  • COME RESCUE OUR STUDIO

  • Those desks look really sweet. Any way to know where I could get them and how much would they cost? I'm based in the UK.

  • Does Francis have any tips for main desk placement in a small, 'L' shaped room/studio? I'm over here in North Wales and I guess Francis doesn't travel this far but I loved this series and look forward to the new ones. Thanks.

  • hes got his "...compeeder" setup... LOL

JK buddy, your accent is funny.

  • Is it always better to have several corner traps stacked on top of each other? I currently only posses two that go in the corners of the wall facing me.

  • @AlexVictorEverett

It is. Basically in any normal room you want to absorb as much bass frequencies as you can, because frequencies from, say 40 to 300 Hz is in the modal region where sound waves develop standing waves. This results in local reinforcement and cancellation of frequencies that can be as high as 20-30 db and the dips can be very, very low (in theory sound pressure at the cancellation points is zero) dips. Any amount of bass you can absorb makes the room acoustically bigger.

  • Where are you guys based? I'm in Perth, Western Australia. Do I even bother submitting?

  • @Calcard94 Hey Calcard. We're looking at Atlanta USA for the next season, but being Aussie we'll certainly be bringing the studio rescue home in future, so definitely worth getting in now.

  • Is There New Episodes Coming, Because These Are Real Informative.. Get Good Idea's From It...

  • @JonChicagoDeepGarcia Thanks Jon. We're accepting applications for the second season now via the link in the video description, and are looking to premiere it later this year.

  • That turned into a really nice studio!

  • dope setup

  • do you guys rescue Ny based Home studios?

  • @Gerard2286 Yeah we do - just use the link in the description to apply for rescuing!

  • I tried to register for a studio rescue but all i get are errors when i submit...

    RODE PLEASE HELP ME!

  • @nichampagne The site seems to be working on our end - feel free to PM your application to our YouTube account/channel

  • If you skip to 4 mins and listen to the rooms sterile reverb and ping, and then skip to 10 mins.. you can hear an improvement already! and that's just a vocal recording from the lav mics.
