Coal Chamber had a really disturbing and depressing sound on their first album, such as Korn's debut or early Deftones - after all the right soundtrack for the frustrated mid/late 90s generation.
Chamber Music was a huge step forwards in their evolution, going more into the White/Rob Zombie direction, but Dark Days was redundant.
Anyone who grew up with Coal Chamber finds Devildriver to be pointless metalcore, vice versa the kids of today listening to DD mostly don't like CC's sound.

What I find to be quite unique about CC's debut, is the fact that they created a gloomy atmosphere in a minimalist way.
DevilDriver sounds like any other modern Groove or whatever Metal band to me, nothing I'd buy a record from. It's especially the videos, which scare me off, but nearly all metal videos look (and probably are) cheap nowadays.
But I'd rather listen to DD then COB or In Flames, hehe...

Yeah, they sounded like every other new metal band out there, no real original image, no real outstanding guitar, bass or drum playing, their originality wasn't all that noticable.
DevilDriver however, has a unique voice, their drumming is fast and intense and very controlled, yet chaotic, n'of course, Dez is throwin' down with a far more hearty scream with lyrics that make far more sense.

This performance isn't indicative but c'mon...Coal Chamber is way better than Devil Driver. Coal Chamber sounds much more original. There's only a 1000 bands that sound like devil driver.

Yeah, they sounded like every other new metal band out there, no real original image, no real outstanding guitar, bass or drum playing, their originality wasn't all that noticable.
DevilDriver however, has a unique voice, their drumming is fast and intense and very controlled, yet chaotic, n'of course, Dez is throwin' down with a far more hearty scream with lyrics that make far more sense.
But that's just my opinion.

@scaldabanco357 Coal Chamber sounds exactly like old Korn. The industrial sounding 90s metal is dead, just like Coal Chamber. Get over the fact the some people enjoy DevilDriver more. What makes DevilDriver stand out is that they sound different than most metal bands. It's not anyone elses fault that you can't distiguish them from the 1000 other bands.
