Not disappointed that it wasn't broadcast, because it just isn't funny. It uses all material that was previously published in the magazine! so if you were a regular Mad reader (as I was in 1974) you'de just be sitting back saying...."yep read it all before!!!!
This was supposed to be a "one-shot" special (with an eye towards a weekly series), originally scheduled for the fall of 1973. But ABC was fearful of advertisers and organizations- like the NFL- who might be offended by the show's satiric content [what you could do in the magazine just wasn't possible on TV at the time] , and cancelled their commitment to air this special.
@MrFlashBazbo listen asshole, if you were an actual fan you would see on many interviews with the editors, especially john ficcarra, they talked about the 1989 special a couple of times, and i've seen a clip of it involving the spies on youtube about three years ago before it was taken down by warner bros.
I really think you are full of shit. I have been and still am a subscriber to MAD since 1969 and I also have every issue on DVD-ROM. I searched and searched and came up with nothing...know why...It never happened...you are so full of shit I bet your breath stinks!
