Can anyone tell me where Lake delton is i know that it's in Sauk county but where is it in terms of North east north central southwest southeast , it would be a great help if soeone could tell me thanks
i know its horrible that all the fish died but imagine how much jewelry, ships, planes, cars, homes, army tanks, fishing poles, andtrains and other awesome things that r at the bottom of a rive where i live there is a entire city underwater including a train
That is so sad. That was a nice house, someone's house. Actually I'd feel the same way if it was a little run down house someone loved to live in, but somehow the very size and neatness of the house makes it more shocking at first.
good news fellos and fellas, Operation Lake Delton is underway! no worrys you can stop crying you will be able to swim in that dumb lake again soon =]
When you go to the Kalahari in the Wisconsin Dells, they have a TV there playing the original and complete footage. It's very sad to watch it and know that your friend's house just got washed away...

I'm from Lake Delton...seen it for myself. The Dam didn't break like a lot of people keep saying...people DID NOT build their houses too close to the water...the lake over flowed because we had wayy too much heavy downpour than we've ever gotten before. We broke the record by 2 feet people! The lake overflowed and forced a channel to empty into the Wisconsin River...it washed right through a road. It has nothing to do with how anything was built it was wayyy too much heavy rain!!
That really sucks. Makes me not want to own anything I wouldn't mind losing, ya know? Like...a REALLY nice car, for example. I'd be all nervous someone would scratch of dent it. But with all the cars I've ever owned...no big deal. It's nice to have nice stuff...but when people work their entire life away for something like a big house or the stuff in it...well, the water can just come and take all that away in an instant.
Now, experiences with family and friends...they're fully insured. No cost.

@OBAMASTINKSLIKEANAPE THANK YOU!!! I live in this town and there are so many big houses right on the lake! The people who own Mount Olympus built a huge (and ugly) house about 2 feet above lake level. I can't wait for the next big storm!!!:D
its not that i was criticizeing any body what i said was if i was going to buy a house there or build one i would look for shit like that i know no one knew it could or would happen dont care how much you pay for taxes but we have a dam in our county and were all paying to rebuild before theres a problem like that and to say i dont care is stupid you dont know me or what i think i know it wasnt a dam its a dike with a road on it the water went over and washed it away fact.i got it rite.
build smarter. people have to know that if there a mound of dirt holding the lake in and water washes over it. it will wash away .but if there was a steel sea wall there it would of held up if i buy a house i would of looked for problems like that build better smarter lake front property is expensive and the community should fix potential problems like this who should pay for this. the people who buy these houses and the township that collects the taxes from them im sure they pay high taxes
look i visited the dells right after this happened and nobody suspected okay? if we did we would have done that , but you know sorry that we don't suspect crap like this to happen to our lives. and its none of your frickin business to worry about our taxes. oh and by the way we don't effin care about what happens to our taxes when our homes just got washed away.
First off, this man-made lake was made without anything flowing into it, without SEA walls, hello, its a man made lake and with the precautions that homes could be built on the lakeshore. What you're not getting is that these homes were more than 50 feet or so from the shore! The water rose, collapsed a highway (not a dam) and rushed through into the boarding river. It was a disaster and ended up looking like a mini-Katrina town. Don't criticize the builders.
No one in their right minds would have guessed this to happen. It is unheard of in the state of Wisconsin. By the way, the people who have properties on that lake had lived there for years and many built the houses themselves. This lake had no dikes, no rivers. I repeat, it was MAN-MADE!!! Before you criticize a state, make sure you find out the facts. Also, next time you may want to pick a state that won't fight back! On Wisconsin!
hope they remeber this when they rebuild rivers rise lake will rise over dikes witch creates a canal and away go the lake wet dirt falls and housees to close go with it rivers flood takeing houses cars everything.hurricanes come and blow ocean front homes away.thing before u rebuild please soory to see the damage.but how many time do we have to see this before we stop putting our selfs in this remeber the 3 pigs build better safer smarter
WE DIDNT HACKIN' THINK THIS WOULD HAPPEN!! DONT YOU GET THAT!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!? THIS IS WISCONSIN WE BUILD FOR TORNADOES, floods happen but we didnt think the dam would frickin break. you dont even care about any of these people do you?
The primary fault to this was the dams which were made to prevent it from happening in the first place. It's easy to call people stupid for building homes next to a lake, but they should have been fine. With all the rain the midwest has been getting lately, it is impossible to have a home not near water anymore. I suppose we could all move to places where hurricanes and earthquakes will take the homes instead, huh?
Yep, you're an idiot. I wish it was easy for me to predict history-making weather. I'd be the richest meteorologist on earth! You should probably start using your talent and apply for a job at your local weather station... soon you will probably have a globally broadcast weather program fortelling all natural disasters.
By the way, it's not only people who built near lakes that have damage. Sewage systems were backed up flooding into homes, winds damaged homes, etc.
im from wisconsin, lake delton was a man made lake next to the wisc river, due to recent very heavy rains the levees (if you will)collapsed causing this lake to completley drain very bad..........:(
That shit is funny. lol.Look at that lol. "ROW ROW ROW YOUR HOUSE, GENTLY DOWN THE STREAM" LOL LMAO LMFAO LOL LOL LMAO ROTFL ROTFFL. I dont mean to be igorant but that but that shit look funny.
Yeah, the person below you is correct. My family has a summer home in the area... which (I think) survived. My dad's going up there this weekend to check on it. I would say 90% of homes in that area are vacation homes, so even though it's a terrible thing to happen - it could have been much worse. On my way to my internship this morning I saw a playground still half underwater. It's crazy.
Yes this is devastating but perhaps some of you will feel less sad to know that these people did not actually lose everything. All three homes that where washed away where vacation homes.
such a shame it's a beautiful area to visit as we go there a lot especially over the summer..I hope that the Dells area can recover from this as we head into the peek season.
this is awful...poor people. Imagine these people wathing their homes wash away, everything they've worked so hard for, years they've worked, is destroyed in a few minutes.
Were their people inside that house ? What a ride that must be! Hopefully they were niggers! I guess they always wanted a house boat. Maybe next time they won't make the mistake of building a house next to a FUCKIN RIVER !!! Dededee
Their house wasn't next to a river. They were near the lake, but far enough away to not be in much danger at first. We had so much rain that the banks of the lake eroded away and what you saw is all the water gushing out of the lake. And no, no one was in that house.
If that isn't the most un-compassionate and ignorant thing anybody could say...
There was nobody in the house, and the house wasn't on the river either. The water that you see the house flow into is the same water that washed away HWY A (That's that black thing that you see all those things called cars parked on) HWY A ran alongside Lake Delton.
The people of that area have been denied flood insurance for years since they were off of the flood plain.
If they want to rebuild it should fall on the people who benefit, the home owners and the hotels and the people who make money in that county, perhaps a sales tax hike with a higher tourist tax and lake usage fees in the area. It should not fall on the rest of the state to bail out these people for luxury homes and hotels on a man made lake.
Freakin A!! Our tax in the Dells is already 11% what more do you want from us! Our homes didn't fall in...but yet because we live were someone's homes were destoryed we should pay more money out than we don't have? Ahhhh! Bring everyone else don't why don't ya!
Not for charging hotel rooms, We have to charge 11% if someone has to rent a room...5.5 of it goes to sales and marketing and the other 5.5 of it is for the hotel itself I believe. The gift shops charge 6% yes.
the home owners asked the county if they recommended flood insurance, but they were told they didn't need it because the dam would hold. which it did, the dam is perfectly fine, it was just the rising water that caused the problem. so yes, they should have gotten flood insurance, but they were told it was unnecessary.
Just like New Orleans, we built a system and hoped for the best, we knew it wasn't adaquate but we went ahead anyway and alot of people made a lot of money and it was too too good to stop and really deal with the situation, now the shit has hit the fan and everyone is gonna have there hand out looking for help rebuiling their vacation homes and lake front condos.OMG you lost your boat and dock.. well boo fucking hoo on you.Dont expect me to pay for your toys or your lake. 2Words:Flood Insurance
People WOULD pull politics and all that crap into this... but did anyone who commented below stop to think about what it's like for the people who lost their homes? not only that, the ecomony is going to suffer in wisconsin dells, so it's a double whammy. I live in wisconsin, and no where near lake delton it was flooding. Stop turning other people's misfortune into a debate about global warming and whether they were stupid or not to build their home where they could find a job and raise a family
I live 90 min. away from here and I just came from the Dells just to see what it looks like afterwords and It's the first real disaster zone I've ever seen !
Fuck you "Global Warming" mf's talking your "Go Green" bullshit too. You want to know who lives "Green"? The dirty homeless bum on the streets of Chicago. They don't waste shit. So next time one of you yuppie fucks loosely throw out the word "Green" out, remember that the homeless bum that you look down on is better than you. You see, that homeless fucker didn't "GO GREEN" because it's the hottest trend.
Yeah, just keep burning fossil fuels till there's none left and we have no alternatives. Great plan asshole. Think about all the smog in big industrial cities and look at the health problems children born there have. I don't care if you don't believe in global warming, but any 5-year old knows what it means to run out of a resource. "Going Green" is a shitty marketing tool, but there's more to it than global warming. It's about building sustainable efficient communities.
Global Warming is nothing more than a scare tactic that extreme liberals use to brainwash. Besides that, look at the way other countries conduct their industry. They don't have half the laws that the US has in place to regulate pollution. WOW another camel riding douche bag that hates America.....
your reply clearly indicates who the moron is. many dams could break and my home would never be washed away. not the case here because they were too close to the water - pretty simple really.
You people are half retarded. Lake Delton overflowed from heavy rainfall. Which then caused it to breach and create a channel letting it empty into Wisconsin River. I watched this, half asleep, when I woke up this morning for work in Chicago and I still managed to get the story correct. The "tornado alley" comparison wins the "Retard Award" for today. Congrats DUMBASS!
My favorite is the theory that global warming, i.e. the loss of the Earth's protective ozone layer, is going to trigger a new ice age. I would LOVE to meet the scientist who can explain how more potent sunshine will actually COOL the Earth.
When I was in school, global warming was greenhouse gases burning holes in the ozone layer, which then would allow more harmful sunlight in, raising the global temperature and melting the ice caps.
Of course, that didn't happen as expected, so now global warming refers to any weather related change that hasn't happened for over 50 years. Go continue to get all of your information from Al Gore and ignore the scientific data that the earth is actually cooler than it was 100 years ago.
Over population? Burning too much fossil fuels? are you people retarted? If the house was never there? do you know anything about Lake Delton? One of the nicest lakes i've ever been to. Have a little sympathy. Luckily, no one was killed or seroiusly hurt
I concur with your sentiments, but wake the fuck up. This sort of scenario will soon become apparent the world over. Its not 'IF', but 'WHEN' it will happen.
This has happened because - Americans above all others, burn more fossil fuels and contribute more to the decay of our planet ie: Global warming. My solution; Put all the americans on a fucking rocket and blast 'em outta space on a one way journey to nowhere.
Global warming! Never mind that Wisconsin had one of it's coldest winters in decades, and set records all across the state because of all the snowfall. I love how global "warming" is now responsible for not just hot temps, but cold temps, extra precipitation, no precipitation, floods, earthquakes, etc. If you don't live in LA, where it's 75 and sunny every day, then blame global warming!
Yes that's right 'GLOBAL WARMING'. Global warming doesn't actually mean that every country heats up, it could have the opposite effect, whereas countries actually become freezing. My solution remains the same. Get those americans off their fat twinkie eating asses, and out of their fuel guzzling vehicles and blast 'em off the planet. Problem solved.
I'm not stereotyping....I just stated what my personal opinion is... you don't have to agree with it as I don't have to agree with yours. I just feel that you need a new or different hobby because you have the thought process of a bag of hammers. And... what the hell does GED, high school, or college or any other dimwitted remark that you can come up with have to do with the price of eggs today??? If you want to show your love for people, maybe try talking less and doing something to help!
Here's a thinker for ya...Knowledge is NOT power! Power comes from what you actually DO with your knowledge!!! Get out of here and DO something with your knowledge where it can make a difference. Use your smarts for good instead of on all this crap. Take care and god bless!
damn what a shame

It was a disaster and ended up looking like a mini-Katrina town. Don't criticize the builders.

No one in their right minds would have guessed this to happen. It is unheard of in the state of Wisconsin. By the way, the people who have properties on that lake had lived there for years and many built the houses themselves. This lake had no dikes, no rivers. I repeat, it was MAN-MADE!!! Before you criticize a state, make sure you find out the facts. Also, next time you may want to pick a state that won't fight back! On Wisconsin!

It's crazy.
beerg69 3 years ago
Yes this is devastating but perhaps some of you will feel less sad to know that these people did not actually lose everything. All three homes that where washed away where vacation homes.

Were their people inside that house ? What a ride that must be! Hopefully they were niggers! I guess they always wanted a house boat. Maybe next time they won't make the mistake of building a house next to a FUCKIN RIVER !!! Dededee
sxhxixtx 3 years ago
Their house wasn't next to a river. They were near the lake, but far enough away to not be in much danger at first. We had so much rain that the banks of the lake eroded away and what you saw is all the water gushing out of the lake. And no, no one was in that house.
sarajoko 3 years ago

It should not fall on the rest of the state to bail out these people for luxury homes and hotels on a man made lake.
mikejjwi 3 years ago
Freakin A!! Our tax in the Dells is already 11% what more do you want from us! Our homes didn't fall in...but yet because we live were someone's homes were destoryed we should pay more money out than we don't have? Ahhhh! Bring everyone else don't why don't ya!

Ohhh higher tourist tax! Doubt that would work...customers bitch enough about 11% as it is...
mystobluestars 3 years ago
Sales tax in the Dells is 6%
lennydells 3 years ago

XshamisX 3 years ago

Perhaps they were built too close to the water? or is that too obvious?
chambersburgbiker 3 years ago
they were not built to withstand the dam breaking.
you maroon
johnnecron 3 years ago
your reply clearly indicates who the moron is. many dams could break and my home would never be washed away. not the case here because they were too close to the water - pretty simple really.
chambersburgbiker 3 years ago
Wrong...the dam didn't break and they weren't too close to the water...read above comments.
mystobluestars 3 years ago
You people are half retarded. Lake Delton overflowed from heavy rainfall. Which then caused it to breach and create a channel letting it empty into Wisconsin River. I watched this, half asleep, when I woke up this morning for work in Chicago and I still managed to get the story correct. The "tornado alley" comparison wins the "Retard Award" for today. Congrats DUMBASS!

My favorite is the theory that global warming, i.e. the loss of the Earth's protective ozone layer, is going to trigger a new ice age. I would LOVE to meet the scientist who can explain how more potent sunshine will actually COOL the Earth.
bremern 3 years ago
When I was in school, global warming was greenhouse gases burning holes in the ozone layer, which then would allow more harmful sunlight in, raising the global temperature and melting the ice caps.
Of course, that didn't happen as expected, so now global warming refers to any weather related change that hasn't happened for over 50 years. Go continue to get all of your information from Al Gore and ignore the scientific data that the earth is actually cooler than it was 100 years ago.
bremern 3 years ago
Over population? Burning too much fossil fuels? are you people retarted? If the house was never there? do you know anything about Lake Delton? One of the nicest lakes i've ever been to. Have a little sympathy. Luckily, no one was killed or seroiusly hurt
Thursday14 3 years ago
I concur with your sentiments, but wake the fuck up. This sort of scenario will soon become apparent the world over. Its not 'IF', but 'WHEN' it will happen.
TONYLOVESU 3 years ago
This has happened because - Americans above all others, burn more fossil fuels and contribute more to the decay of our planet ie: Global warming. My solution; Put all the americans on a fucking rocket and blast 'em outta space on a one way journey to nowhere.
TONYLOVESU 3 years ago
Global warming! Never mind that Wisconsin had one of it's coldest winters in decades, and set records all across the state because of all the snowfall. I love how global "warming" is now responsible for not just hot temps, but cold temps, extra precipitation, no precipitation, floods, earthquakes, etc. If you don't live in LA, where it's 75 and sunny every day, then blame global warming!
bremern 3 years ago
Yes that's right 'GLOBAL WARMING'. Global warming doesn't actually mean that every country heats up, it could have the opposite effect, whereas countries actually become freezing. My solution remains the same. Get those americans off their fat twinkie eating asses, and out of their fuel guzzling vehicles and blast 'em off the planet. Problem solved.
