Well done :) Here in Europe we have mostly medieval reenactment. Last year however we had an reenactement of Napoleons congress in Erfurt with troops, fifes and drums. Sounded like the ones in this civil war reenactment.
I wish you good times and many possibilities to reenact in the US:
any chance u guys could play the song "in the bathroom"? lol just kiddin Ken. God i miss the sound of fifes and drums. Jesus i wish it was may already.
As a former Infantry and later Cavalry Officer I can say that the drums are supposed to be too loud. Remember that when troops march, the drums keep cadence so all troops march to the same beat, "Left, Right, Left Right", all that stuff. That's why the marching songs when no drums are present on the march.
It could be a football song, but before that it was a song from the Civil War, detailing the feelings of so many people who just wanted their boys to come home from the war. Hence the name "Johnny Comes Marching Home" :)
(to RogueZealot10) I'm not American so, when you speak about the Appomatox court house, which case or historical event do you refer to ? (Was the sentence correctly written ?)
The flute player (the tallest of the two)might not be the best flute player, but despite that, it is still a good general performance. The music they start to play at the 44th second, is it the same tune as the song sung by the parachutists of the Easy company, in Band of Brothers, when they enter Austria on their trucks ?
Battle Hymn There is a bonny fitba team at Easter Rd they play. I go along to cheer them every other Saturday In colours green and white the finest in the land today. The Hibs go marching on. (Chorus) Glory, Glory to the Hibees. Glory, Glory to the Hibees. Glory, Glory to the Hibees. We are the Hibee Boys. Against the continentals we have always stood the test. Against the famous English clubs we're better than the rest. We've beat the champs of Europe & we are by far the best.

rebelstang, we play Confederate music too BTW, if you have the skills, let's see video of you playing something distinctly Southern. We may be marching in Remembrance Day this year as Cornfed field musicians.
Whats BTW? Heck i can't play a lick on any real instroment. That's why I said, keep practicing. AT LEAST YOU'R TRYING.Most of these vidios use recorded music. DIXIE'S my favorite. I here it was written by a Yank.THANKS.
Marching to this music and many other Civil War battle music while going down the streets of Gettysburg in a long line of Blue and Gray uniforms on Veteran's Day is something to expirence. I re-enact the Civil War and proud to do my part is saving history.

what makes the taller bloke not as good as the bearded fellow? (he isn't as good ;-) , but just asking what in the video gives it away)
excelsiorbrigade 4 years ago
It's actually the Battle Hymm of the Republic, Blood on the Risers is sung to the same tune though, Blood on the Risers was sung in Band of Brothers

thanks man forget about that
anaheimfan9 4 years ago 2
@Briselance The second tune the corps plays is "The Battle Hymn of the Republic," but, yes, the Airborne adapted it for their own nefarious purposes.
(Sorry, I just like the word "nefarious.")
