Or you can go hardcore, and use a Texas Instruments Graphing Calc. for time lapse. This is a cheaper alternative if you already own a graphing calculator.
just a question while i was watching this video i grabbed my nikon d3000 it has this option but when i try to select it it tells me that it tells me that this option is not available with current settings what do i need to change
Just wanted to say THANK YOU! I really liked your parts on Fro-Knows-Photo, but i LOVE these! I´ve been thinking to do such a thing just the other day, and now you´re doing this here! :)
Btw. i would also have set the ISO as low as possible, its not a problem, if your shutterspeed is slow, you work with a tripod anyways, and its looks better on the video, if the moving cars and so on are blurry
Tip for Canon users. (only works if you have your computer attach to the camera) Is to use EOS Utility, in that application you have this feature. The app came with your camera and if you don't have it for some reason you can download it for free from Canon.
@aspen84 I have a T3i (which is actually the 600D) and was wondering if it has one built in. If not, supposedly this one works- search amazon for Timer Remote Control RS-60E3.
Let me know if you find out if there's one built in
@pigtreeshoe Thanks for the tip. i checked it out on amazon and ebay and it is exactly what i need for my canon. Bad that canon doesn´t have that option built in.
@aspen84 The gadget is an external intervalometer, (if your camera has remote trigger input). It's just a timer that coses a switch that triggers your camera through a cable. You can buy this at an electronics/electric store, just buy a piece of cable (2 wires) and a mini plug for the camera (like a small headphone plug).
I set my camera to shoot JPEGS that are 1920x1280 which is gonna get cropped to 1920x1080.... that way the files are relatively small but its still full 1080p HD video on youtube or HDTV. Thanks for the tips... I didn't try Auto ISO but that will be my next try. I did a "spy on my dogs" video....LOL! Great work Adam keep it up.
@araujojorge I actually would not recommend Auto ISO but rather try setting your camera to the lowest ISO setting or at least something low to minimize grain.
@AdamLernerPhoto Thank... I actually used manual ISO... Cool. I tried to link to the video but it gives me an error, not sure how to add a link to my video so you can check it out. The name of the video is "Time Lapse to Spy on my Dogs" under my videos youtube.com/user/araujojorge
@AdamLernerPhoto I did a time lapse video , but I think that with auto ISO it went not as perfect as i would like to be. I used manual mode so I set up shutter speed and aperture and the camera calculated the ISO. Why you think this turn out to be not so well? .... thanks adam! I think was the ISO, I´ll try now with aperture mode.. check out my time lapse and tell me what you think. the final result was edited in Imovie
@perropatata I have the same problem as you... It must be some of the auto settings but i don't know how to do it and also compensate for the changes in luminosity...
are there Intervalometer in the nikon d3100??

Since you'll be shooting JPEG it would be good if you set the white balance too.
Thanks!

He left out some other things, like interval time, and more importantly set your White Balance otherwise you get horribly color shift and flickering.

Does my Canon 1100D (T3i) have that? You said that i can buy something if your camera doesn´t have intervalometer, what is that?
aspen84 6 months ago 2
@aspen84 If your camera doesn't have it, you have two options.
1. Connect your computer to camera and use EOS Utility.
2. Buy/build a remote trigger with a build in intervalometer. The cheapest cost about the same of building on, search on ebay for it...

@aspen84 Don't think the 1100D- which is the T3 not T3i ;) has one built in. Just look up canon intervalometer and you'll find one.
