Build quality wise, the Dell Studio 15 is cheap plastic. The hinges connecting the screen to the keyboard are loose and the power button is stuck inside after getting damaged somehow, so I have to push it very hard for it to work. I don't know much about Macs, but it looks like it can withstand a little damage. Not a Mac fan boy, just pointing that out.

I bought a dell studio 1558, I5, win7 professional, 4gb ram, 500gb 7200, ATI 4570 512mb graphics.intel wireless, DVD for 540 euros. in Jan 2010. I added a 64gb kingstonSSD upgrade kit to the dell for 110 euro & put he HD in usb enclosure. I like Mac OSX, but apple took the piss with it's entry macbook with only 2gb of ram & old processor

An I7 2600k(25% quicker then the i950) seems to be what people are doing now

I'm getting a new laptop but i need help on deciding. I do a lot of game designing, and also recording music. I've heard that macs are best for graphic design type things, but pc is best for music recording. but which one could do both of them the best?
@Mootrain22 hmm if you have the money definitely go for a macbook pro. the cheapest one is a 2.4ghz 13 inch for $1199, you can always get Logic Pro for recording and i hear it's a good music recording program. even if you need windows you can always either 1) make a partition in Boot Camp, or 2) get Parallels or VMware Fusion so you don't need to worry about changing the settings so you don't boot into Windows all the time.

Seriously... the CPU Crashed? A CPU Crash would be a hardware problem. I am fairly sure you mean your computer crashed and any system can crash, I have seen Apple Mac X Crash a few times, and not related to flash either... just crashed so it's not like Macs are superior. In fact if you are going down that root then the server editions of some Linux Distributions must be the best OSs going... even tho they are barely anymore then a Command Line interface.

I know macs are faster than PCs. But I still use Dells.
I wish that PCs could compete with Macs speed. Macs are superior because Apple makes the OS...and Apple makes the Hardware. Microsoft makes the OS and Dell makes the hardware

@ruckelz74 Here's where I feel I need to make a point clear. Every hardcore Mac user I find is uneducated in the field of computers, and doesn't quite know what they're saying when they say "Macs are faster than PCs" Mac means a computer made by apple, with the Mac OS on it. PC Means anthing that is not a Mac. If you buy a shitty PC, then yes, a Mac Would be faster. If you buy/build a PC with the same budget as any normal Mac, you will get 10x the performance. Also Dell is not the only PC maker.

@SteezMcGee420 Oh I know...I'm just saying I prefer Dells over anything. I def. know that if you build a great computer, you're gonna own a mac. For College I plan on getting one of Dells new XPS laptops they're kickass.
I see it as, you have to be smart with computers to buy a PC (or you then recieve a shity PC) whereas with a mac, you just pick and choose.

I used to own an iMac back when they were cool. But now they are not cool because everyone have them. I'm currently using a Dell XPS 1647 which has better specs than a MacBook Pro 15 and it costs £700 less.

DEll is the worst of all PC brands. Worst crapware, cheapest hardware and McAfee the absolute worst anti virus program on earth. Unless you are that 25% who installs a fresh copy of windows. I own an HP only because of what Money I got from high school graduation. I give my rating to MAC with 1/3rd less viruses and no hard drive fragmentation.

I'm getting a new laptop but i need help on deciding. I do a lot of game designing, and also recording music. I've heard that macs are best for graphic design type things, but pc is best for music recording. but which one could do both of them the best?

@Mootrain22 hmm if you have the money definitely go for a macbook pro. the cheapest one is a 2.4ghz 13 inch for $1199, you can always get Logic Pro for recording and i hear it's a good music recording program. even if you need windows you can always either 1) make a partition in Boot Camp, or 2) get Parallels or VMware Fusion so you don't need to worry about changing the settings so you don't boot into Windows all the time.

here is my suggestion!! if you want better loptop or computer buy dell because it has little chance of compatibilty you can install software so easy and you can put xp.vista or windows7 on it it's not to picky so buy dell if you want to learn many software and many thing's about riformating ect>>>>>>> but if you want style buy mac o/s but it realy picky about software's many things not compatible on it SO I SUGGEST BUY DELL IS MORE EXPENSIVE DUDES

Seriously... the CPU Crashed? A CPU Crash would be a hardware problem. I am fairly sure you mean your computer crashed and any system can crash, I have seen Apple Mac X Crash a few times, and not related to flash either... just crashed so it's not like Macs are superior. In fact if you are going down that root then the server editions of some Linux Distributions must be the best OSs going... even tho they are barely anymore then a Command Line interface.

But World of Warcraft works on Mac =S I have even tested it on a 2 and a half year mac Mini that doesn't have a real graphics card like the modern versions do... and it worked. In fact, if I remember right, it even worked off of the same damned discs as the Windows Version.

I've used it everyday 4 the last 5 months and iv had no crashes, no viruses, very responsive, easy and fun 2 use. I'm not saying its better than Mac OS because I've never used it. Bt a lot of the haters of windows haven't used 7 on a machine with the same spec as Mac OS generally runs on.
And finally guys, take it easy, they both have their good points and their bad points.

Well it depends what you want a computer for, I mean if you want a computer for gaming, PC all the way, and if you want a computer for basic office stuff you arent going to want a mac either, I mean dont get me wrong if I had a choice I would choose a mac but in terms of economics I'd get a PC as it does the same stuff for less money.
