everybodys gonna hate me for this I got a stock 2210 for £250 with a cabinet to I couldnt belive it the guys at Marshall said they would but it from me for £2000 since its a original one absolulety crazy i would never get rid of it through its its my baby !!!
I have a late 80's JCM 800 2210, I love it also! I never use any effects, just the Les Paul... I do use a Weber Attenuator so I don't have to go deaf to get a great sound. Good Post.
oldGNRfan23, I just remembered that the single channel JCM800 DOESN'T have the FX loop. For boost, you would need to put it up front of course. In my experiments with the 2210, it sounded way better in the FX loop. So, if you end up with a SC JCM800, I would suggest using an OD pedal up front.
GNR, I use the EQ for BOOST and of course to tailor the tone. It makes the amp roar! I suggest you get one. The 2210, I believe, has more gain than the one channel JCM800, but get a JCM800 at a good price, condition anyway. The 2210 gives me that extra channel, so I have more options though. I use a NS-2 to keep the noise down and it works very well. I found that it doesn't affect my tone either.
Hi there. Good chops and tone. Could a stock JCM 800 get me a sound such as early Metallica but NOTHING heavier? Stuff from blues (Clapton) to rock(GN'R) to metal(Metallica). Thanks in advance and KEEP ON ROCKING!
Absolutely! The JCM800 is THE rock standard! I only have an EQ in the loop and nothing else. If I want AC/DC, classic rock, I click off the EQ or I use the clean channel with a SD-1! Blues, use the clean channel, tweak with the master volume and you're there! Metallica is very easy to get with this amp. GNR, no prob! If you see a great deal on a JCM800, jump on it! Mine is from 1984. : )
Do I need an EQ? Also, I would be using the one channel version. Sorry that I didn't mention that. Is there much difference in gain? I would be only playing early Metallica, think nothing past The Black Album. I use just a wah pedal and a noise gate. FYI, do you use a noise gate? It would be a HUGE addition. I recommend the ISP Decimator. It doesn't affect the tone. That's how all the big name players are so silent. Noise Gates help the tone a lot and are REALLY Beneficial. THANKS!
@oldGNRfan23 yeah the 2210 has more gain then the one channel version, the one channel version isnt meant to be a heavy gain amp so you would probably have to use some pedals
Nice studio, do the piles of dirty cloths help with the quality of the sound?

You're funny brick! : )
I use the clean channel with a SD-1 for the classic stuff, but I'm mostly metal and I don't care too much about it.
Thanks for the comment!
