Attention Musicians, Rappers and Singers! RSonic is giving away 2 free home recording studios! Details for the contest is under my Contest video submission. Check it out before Jan. 31st!
@Bak3dB3an unless the mixer has a firewire or usb output, i would go with the interface as if will give you much better sound quality. you can run the mixer's output right into your mac's input but your incoming signal will be noisier and the issue of gain vs. clipping.
HELP!!! I recently bought a AT2020 with shock mount and pop filter. I am using cool edit to record. However, my vocals feel quite 'tinny', the sibilance is terrible, the words like S, Z, T sound really high pitch! Any and all comments welcome.
we did a similar thing and built a website to post it all on. check out our work. i had to find a smart tech guy off craigslist. but it worked out. punch in my login name on the web browser and add the dotcom
which are better for home studio, active or passive studio monitors? Is passive monitors more useful because you have to have mixer amp with them? And why somebody is getting passive instead of active and vice versa?
@0sk4ri hi Active speakers are speakers that have an amp inside them so they are heavy(also the amp inside the speaker will be paired with the speaker for maximum clarity) most studio monitor speakers are also shealded (meaning you can put them near computer monitor without the magnets in speaker making pc monitor go weird , if someone wanted passive speakers they must already have a nice amp that they use, hope this helps
@Radiolobe in a general way...no. its oftenly seen as that but what u mean is actually "selfpowered" speakers. "active" refers to a frequency-splitter. A normal speaker is passive, so it does the splitting by itself (the sub only plays lows frequencies and the tops only mid and high, so they dont overextend their own capabilities). An Active Box therefore is a box you have to send an already split signal into in order to make it function right.
@Versus61 elaborate on this some more, this is what I read about as well, I just thought having the amp inside the speaker automatically made is 'active' soo what is all this frequency splitting?
@AeonFlexMusic As I said, an "Active Box" is different than a "selfpowered" box (which has an amp in it).
A Speaker can only play a certain frequency range. Tops do usually not go anywhere under 100Hz, so if you give them a Signal with Bass below 100Hz (60Hz or Subbass with 40Hz) it will automatically not play this frequencies cause it knows it cant. An Active Speaker tho thinks he only gets the high frenquencies, plays all, and breaks. the user has to differentiate for the speaker. clear? xD
hi, thanks for the video. I am basically a computer illiterate. I play guitar and would like to record on my p.c. Now I have heard about a Line 6 Farm. Can you recommend an online source or tutorial for the "Recording for Dummies"? Thanks
hey may i ask what you call the thing your laptop is resting on? and ur sound card is underneath ? if any1 could help that would be great, and where can it be bought
You my friend have a super clean and well organized little set-up here! It is absolutely perfect, very modern and 100% efficient in addition to being very comfortable even just to look on my end from a viewers standing point. Thank you for sharing with all of us. You have just given me an entire "plan" so to speak of designing my very own Home Studio =) Thank You!
Mate this is a sweet set up! I'm sure your a great producer but you'd defo be the last person I would call to go for a beer with as you would probably bore me into a coma lol ;)
Nice setup and yes you can work on a budget and come out with a professional sound. It's all about knowing how to mix and master your stuff. It takes times, but when you love what you do you will enjoy the learning process.
You get a lot of questions hey. I have for you too. I want to set myself up with a real similar studio set up you have here. So far I have only 1 studio monitor, and two analogue synthesizers. I'll have to get a MIDI audio interface of course.
What confuses me is what my monitors should be connected to? Are they connected to my laptop? Or my synths? Or both?
i need help! i want to make a home recording studio but i dont have any kinds of equipment the only things i have is the fl studios demo, virtual dj, and a casio keyboard i am thinking about buy a laptop just for music use only but i honestly dont know about which programs to use what midi does all the connections and if the laptop has an impact i have a budget of about $1500 but i plan on leavin to college in about 2 years so im saving my money as much as possible can some1 guide me abit?
If you'd like to see a WHOLE House studio CRAMMED into a single SMALL bedroom, checkout my "Bedroom Studios" i swear you'll laugh and wonder what i was on when i built it!
whats with the crap comments on this guys looks and orientation. its a good vid and some idiots on here i think are jealous as they dont have his knowledge. just grow up.
@billionaireboys11 are you retarded? you just called me cod playing and then you told ME to get a life... thats a little backwards to accuse someone you have never met, seen or heard in your entire life someone who plays a video game and to tell them to get a life.. Next time, think before you put something in a comment that fucking ignorant...
@savagenoble7 no as your not using the sound built in the laptop. you use a audio interface as he has shown and go though that via usb or firewire with the monitors coming out of the audio interface. good laptop specs min would be 2 gig dual core 2 gig ram and 7200 rpm hard drive . better spec is 2.5 gig dual core i3 or i5 4 to 6 gig ram and 7200 rpm HD.
nice setup :) right speaker might be better off out of that corner though as bass builds up in corners. i.E. if you put on some music with heavy bass and go into the corners then you will see what i mean. place monitors symmetrical in relation to the room otherwise one speaker will sound different. equilateral triangle for listening position. ears are in height of the middle piece between speaker and tweeter. sorry for being a clevers%&t. hope you make some cool stuff with your equipment. bye!
... nice rig ... you are right that you don't need to spend that much anymore. You're advanced enough where you might dig some of our free clips where we got to interview one of the best room designers in the world ... check it out and let me know what you think! our channel is secretpros ...

Do I need anything more than a good laptop, a good midi keyboard, and good speakers in order to create just the music at home? (not to record)
@LeonardoNasir Hey man, if you're wanting to bring home your studio projects, all you need is an interface (even if you're not recording), the exact same software used at the studio running on your computer, and some speakers, and the keyboard is optional but is really useful. Basically the interface is for getting a good quality sound output from your laptop, and so you connect proper speakers or monitors. If you want some extra detail/info message me. Hope this helped.
@cruzdrum It will suck for inputs and outputs (monitoring), which is what a soundcard does, so its basically stupid to record all that stuff and then throw it all away because its cheap quality.
Look up Creative Labs Sound Blaster X-Fi 5.1 That's what I have, and it hasn't failed me yet. I would probably trust any of Creative's cards, as I have more of an entry level USB card, and it works wonders for me. Best $50 ever spent!
@bjarnyg whats happenin...It's me Bill Lumberg...yeaaahhhhhh...we're gonna need you to go ahead & uh...shut the fuck up...yeahhhh ,that would be great

Look up Creative Labs Sound Blaster X-Fi 5.1 That's what I have, and it hasn't failed me yet. I would probably trust any of Creative's cards, as I have more of an entry level USB card, and it works wonders for me. Best $50 ever spent!

So, if i plug my desktop Audio out into a Sound card and the soundcard outputs into Krk's and a Sub this would work?
Or just plug them all into a Separate Mixer and connect the Computer Audio out into the Mixers input?
Thanks.
