He is so beautiful and sweet. He wants to talk so badly. He sure loves his grandpa, doesn't he? I do hope that this never is seen again. He is a very social baby. Love his little smile. God Bless.
There seems to be fluid under his eyes. Vision may be poor as his eyes are straining to widen to focus. Does he always tilt his head or is he just looking over? Epilepsy shouldn't be discounted as it may be the underlying factor.
Ur son is so cute, my daughter was diagnosed with spasm nutans when she was two monts old it was very disturbing to me, we were at the hospital for a week they did all kind of tests and they couldn't find anything wrong with her and after they got liquid out of her spine they give me that diagnosis thank God she grew out of it and now she is 7 years old healthy little girl the only issue is that her vision was affected and she has to wear glasses other than that everything else is perfect
I can't remember what resources I was using back then, as this was almost 2 years ago. But I can tell you that he grew out of it in just a few short months after it appeared! It really seemed to peak right then around 6 months, and was completely gone by the time he turned 1, and by then it would only happen when he was really tired. I sure hope the same applies for your baby!
@annerichey my son has had this since he was about 6months old. Now he is years old and its going away. My sons CT and MRI scan came back normal as time is going on he is slowing but surely growing out of it. Their is no cause for this it just happens. His left eye twitches only and he shakes his head from left to right. He doesn't tilt his head though
I have a 4.5 month old baby boy who has just been diagnosed with Nystagmus. I am heartbroken but in my search online for viable information it seems that sometimes its not as bad as what its made out to be. Things like never being able to drive and having kids tease really make me worry for my sons future. Can you please point me in the right direction of any valuble info u might have come across? From what his Pediatric Optomologist said its only mild. A waiting game now.
What a doll he is. We took our son who is 7 months into the doctor today because he was doing excessive head bobbing and epilepsy runs on my side of the family. He said that he more than likely has spasmus nutans so that was a relief. Hope your little guy is doing better.
Do people ever outgrow this condition. Does it get worse? How is your sone today? He was a PRECIOUS baby. Just precious. If it weren't for his condition, this video would be total joy. I adore babies.
cute kid.. does his MRI shows any sinus type issues? example maxillary sinus? I asking because your son isn't closing his mouth at all.. seems like breathing from mouth. It will be a trouble once he falls sleep.
Hi I am of Brazil and my son of 4 months was diagnosised with this exactly problem, it she passed for all type of neorologico examination and she never offered to risk some. I am thankful for the video and helps to calm desperate parents…. That God illuminates its son and its family…
hi my eldest son joshua has this he is now 14 and is rej partially sighted he had a difficult birth and his heart rate dipped several times and his apgar was 2 at birth would be nice to talk to other mums with these special kids im in the uk. emma
Thanks for responding! We are already doing physical therapy because his torticollis was what we first noticed. We see an opthomologist next week and hopefully will have some answers then. I am glad he is doing better and I hope it doesn't last that long with Teegan. His neck issues are getting better but he can't hold himself upright at all so we are working on strengthening his back muscles. Anywho..thanks for posting this video. It really helped me!
If your son isn't even 5 mos old, I wouldn't worry about him sitting up just yet! Ben didn't sit up until 9 mos, which is a little delayed according to some, but I think that was due to his torticollis. His spasmus nutans is practically gone at this point, he only does it once in a blue moon, and it only seems to happen when he's tired. They recommended he see a physical therapist but the problems resolved on their own fairly quickly so I chose not to do that treatment option.
My son (almost 5 months) sees the opthomologist next week. I suspect that he has the same thing as your son. Our ped. caught it at his last appt. He has been doing physical therapy for his torticollis. My question is what treatment options did they give you? Is there any therapy that is required? Also does he sit up well on his own? My son can't sit up and I was wondering if it related to his eye/head movement .Feel free to send me a message in reply. Are you LDS? I see your accent pillow :)
My daughter has also been diagnosed with spasmus nutans. As she has gotten older, she tends to fight the nystagmus ortion of the affliction. Have you noticed what may set it off? I've noticed with her, if she looks in a certain direction, she may start the nystagmus. She had an episode last night, her first in a month and a half.
I was induced using cervadil and pitocin after my water breaking naturally and being in labor for three days.
No, I was not induced. My waters spontaneously ruptured, and his heartrate was totally normal during the course of my 7 hour labor. He was born all natural, no drugs, no IV, barely any interventions! However, he did develop jaundice after birth, and also had torticollis and reflux.
I wanted to ask you about the birth of your son. Were you induced, if so what was used? Where there any times during his birth where his heartrate dropped? What was his birth like in general? I'm just trying to do a little of my own research. Thanks a bunch! Btw, you can see the video of my son that I posted.
I'm sorry your kiddo had to go through all those tests first! I took my son to a pediatric opthamalogist (spelling?) when I noticed his eye nystagmus and head nodding. He was diagnosed right away with spasmus nutans. We didn't do any of those tests, thank goodness. They recommended an MRI but spasmus nutans is generally benign when it presents in infants so we are not going to have them do one.
Thanks for posting this, My son was also hospitalized, tested and diagnosed with Spasmus Nutans this past week. It's definitely scary until you know what it is!
Thanks for posting this video, it also has a didactic value. It usually is a "cool" diagnosis, I hope Ben's still ok (if I heard his name well) and smiling around.
Yes, actually if you read the info posted with the video it tells you what he has been diagnosed with. I posted it for other parents to use as a point of reference if their children are experiencing the same symptoms.
HE HAS ADORABLE EYES! :)

One differential diagnosis is a glioma, then an MRI is indicated, the management is different.
