although karl is the one who signs off on everything, the prefall collections (like this one) is intended to showcase the artisans who work for the house of chanel-- the jewelers, cobblers, pattern makers, etc. which is why the accessories are so extravagant and the clothing is boring. the artisans deserve the credit for how amazing this collection is... not so much karl

I am so in love with Chanel. All the clothes are in the same time beautiful, complex, all the collections have a deep meaning, there is nothing commercial, there is nothing stupid. Chanel is perfection for me. If there wasn't Chanel, I wouldn't be now so interested in fashion, I wouldn't want to become a fashion editor. For me, watching a Chanel show is like reading Umberto Eco or Dante Alighieri, like listening Beethoven or Bjork. And I don't even need those clothes, only seeing them is enough

The outfit at 1:14 looks very Islamic. Karl Lagerfeld and John Galliano (fall 09) both have collections which are nominally eastern European, but stray into Islamic/ Turkish/ Arab influences. Really beautiful links between east and west, Europe and the Middle east/ Asia.

I wouldn't normally say this as a vegetarian, but I think fur was appropriate in this instance because the collection was inspired by Russian history and fur has always been used as an indigenous material in Russia, just as it is in northern Canada (by the first nations) and Scandinavia, Greenland, Iceland etc. In those kind of climates wearing fur makes sense. Remember there are ethical methods of farming animals and unethical ones. This fur could have been sourced from ethical suppliers.
