First Corollary: This is doubly so when the bad guys are shooting at the good guy(s)

Second Corollary: the more advanced the weaponry and the faster rate of fire, the lower the chance of hitting your target.

Third Corollary: A behind the back, no look, last-minute, desperate shot with an outdated, rusty, deteriorating, unreliable pistol will always hit it's mark.

The main funktion of the armor is the intimidation factor.

People fear what they don't know and the "faceless enemy" concept has great power.

The uniformity of the armor and the emotionless helmet, makes the troopers seem less human. That makes it very difficult to identify with them and therefore makes them more intimidating.

Well, they SHOULD protect against arrows and stones as well as most other weapons...but as we all know: Ewoks are the harbingers of doom and thus invincible. Nothing is more scary than a teddy bear that throws pebbles at you. How could you expect the imperial arfmy to win against such odds??? That being said, I think the design of the Storm Trooper armor is perfect. Timeless and it doesn't look like somone was trying too hard to make it look like Sci-Fi. It looks believable.

The bigger the advantage, and the more advanced weaponry that the bad guys have mean nothing when they are fighting a primitive civilization that is fighting with sticks and stones. Try as they might, the good guys will win against all odds.

I never considered Ewoks good. They annoyed me even as a kid. Then, G. Lucas brings out two sequels that only have Ewoks in them that I was FORCED to watch. AAAARGH it scarred me for life!
