I think the storyline is, the boy had a nightmare of a monster attacking him so in his DREAM he stabbed the monster but when he woke up he found out he stabbed his dog. You know kinda like sometimes when you dream your hitting someone you hate and when you wake up you discover you were punching your pillow, like that.
