New turbo F1 cars will have a lot less lag, due to better designed and smaller turbo's (resulting in less power), probably also a higher CR than those days... I was kind of hoping for ALS, but that doesn't seem to happen... Probably not needed with those fast gear changes...

@c312eal VTEC was part of what enabled honda to make cars with ridiculous rev limits, that would idle smoothly, be efficient at low revs and not sacrifice power at high revs. It's also reliable and manufacturable, and only decades after it was introduced has variable valve timing become a standard addition to engines from all manufacturers.The B16 is one of the best engines ever made.

@carlostamezz There are some VERY skilled drivers in F1 today. Kubica, Hamilton and Alonso I think are the top 3 best drivers. It's not their fault that those running the sport want to limit the power of the cars and keep them safer. I have no doubt these 3 and quite a few others on the grid this year would have been easily skilled and brave enough to handle these cars.
@cmason87 Vettel is clearly good but I dont think he's as good a driver as those three. I think his success is partly down to his car. Top 5 is: 5. Button/Kobayashi 4. Vettel 3. Kubica 2. Alonso 1. Lots of torque requires more skill on a road course where max acceleration off each corner is crucial for best lap times. Turbo cars tend to do well on "top end" tracks where long straights favor high-revving/high boost cars. NA cars can be feathered better with less wheelspin/tire-wear. MD

@Wessellaro They are no longer going with the 4 Cylinder engine block apparently, they feel it is not strong enough to withstand all the stresses of racing as its basically supporting the entire rear end of the car. I was reading somewhere that they will be using 6 cylinder blocks because they are considerably stronger than the 4's.

So what he had a bad year but he still pulled off some magical moves & overtakes. And yes he could have done it without KERS/DRS

@bmxf1 nope,these engines were so much more powerfull than those who's coming. As much as we all want those engines and racing from the 80's & 90's to come back,the 2014 will bring us something new ,yet again. Just hope for it to be good

@Wessellaro They are no longer going with the 4 Cylinder engine block apparently, they feel it is not strong enough to withstand all the stresses of racing as its basically supporting the entire rear end of the car. I was reading somewhere that they will be using 6 cylinder blocks because they are considerably stronger than the 4's.

Some people on here are total idiots. Lewis Hamilton can be considered as a great. He came within one point of the WDC IN HIS FIRST SEASON! So he got given a title contending car?! But nobody else IN FORMULA ONE history managed that. I'm not a fan of Hamilton to be honest, but no matter what anybody says, he's the closest there is to 'real racer' in Formula One right now.

@dimoscondos I agree the cars are too easy to drive now but its the same for all drivers in it. Put Hamilton in 1 of the older cars say in the early 90s he would be challenging for race wins. Put Vettel in it, I doubt he would. Hamilton is a racer and has a natural talent. That was evident by the fact he nearly won the championship in his first year. So what he had a bad year but he still pulled off some magical moves & overtakes. And yes he could have done it without KERS/DRS

@KidderAdam Yeah but there dropping back to V6, and they will allow rubbish boost. It's just a trend to slow it down and make formula one more of a joke from an engineering at the limit standpoint. It's way too over-regulated. This should not happen in formula there are 1000's of other racing series if you want to see regulations and total focus on driver skill etc....
