Yes, meshuggah uses custom made 8 string guitars usually tuned down to either F# or G...which is just fucking awesome. I usually tune my 7 string down to G, but when I get the money Im buying an 8 string just for the fuck of it.

nah, they're at a low F for almost all of their songs from "Nothing" onwards. that's when they first started with the 8's, switched from 7's. Nebulous is an exception though, that one was in E standard. a whole fucking octave down. Meshuggah ftw.
