I agree that this kid has a wonderful instrument with tons of potential, but the same worries apply. This particular sound is manufactured. He is shoving his larynx down to his belly button basically. If you notice, very few of the low notes are, or can be, sustained. If the wrong teacher handles this voice, it will be destroyed. Sing on the 'interest" rather than the "principle".... You have many years to sound mature -- you don't need to now.. or at age 18.. or 20....
I had the honor of spending time with William Warfield over a three day period during the Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia's national convention of 1996. An amazing, friendly, "from the heart" gentleman who gave me and many others a slice of his experiences that can only come from such talent. Thanks William, wherever you are now.
I thought this young man did a marvellous job. I don't see what his name is anywhere. Do you or anyone know? Since this video was posted a little more than a year ago, I was wondering how this guy is progressing? 14 is very young for this kind of mature voice.
I'm a Bass in my Chorus class and I couldn't hit anything near this kid. I mean this is amazing. I have a healthy respect for this kid. One would think at his age that it would hurt or even damage his voice to get higher than what he was hitting and yet it had no difference to his sound or clarity.
You're overproducing a dark, mature tone that you naturally don't have yet because you are so young. I'm not saying it sounds bad - it sounds wonderful - it's just not healthy and worries me. At around 2:00 your (more) natural tone comes back in because it's high and you can't manufacture a dark 30year old tone. Do you have a voice teacher? You have a wonderful instrument and need to keep it working for as long as possible!
You do a really great job with your chest resonator and bringing it up into your upper octaves. There was one part where I thought your voice went right from chest to head without having that gorgeous mixed voice you have. Other than that, Great job!

i loved your voice. very smooth. i am also a 14 year old bass. i can hit a low c on a good day. you might want to work on your higher range; it doesn't always sound as good as your lower range. other than that, great job.
It's low, no doubt there. The quality it poor. You can barely understand his diction at times, most of his low notes are 50% note 50% vocal fry, and his is EXTREMELY stacato. Tie the notes together he is sitting to high on the notes instead of giving them a soul of someone who is weary. Great potential but stick to baritone until you get better quality.
A very impressive video! You have not only a beautiful voice, but awesome control with your pitch as well as with your crescendos and decrescendos. That's such a rare combination, especially for someone your age. You should be proud of yourself. You are truly gifted!
Yes he's clearly young, and no he doesn't sound like a 40 year black guy, he sounds like a teenager who tries to cover his voice and sound darker in the low end, so it kinda gets muddled down there. You can tell his his upper half is way brighter, where his voice naturally should.
You are quite talented at only 14! Good comments have already been said, a little more legato but do develop this further. You have a serious skill. Keep it up!
Nice someone your age is interested in really singing . . . you have a nice large and sonorous instrument. Listen to Robeson, Warfield and Ramey in this. Some parts mimic speech, but much should be a lot more legato and notes @ phrase ends. Do study voice if you want to sing serious music, before you develop bad habits. Voice like yours will have a low E or even a C or below, but should also ascend to a high G or Ab if you learn how to manage the passaggio and sing without forcing.
Not only did your I find your 'every day' speaking voice pleasant to listen to, I have now been captivated by your incredible singing voice. A voice which has truly resonated with me.
Incredible! You're such a well mannered, remarkable, charming, polite, good-looking and talented young man and I know that there will be many amazing opportunities for you in the not so distant future.

There's a tension in the lower range that worries me. I'd guess that he has some tight sphincters.
