@djsfilms1 oh...are you serious? how do you brake then? i would've thought motobikes have the brake levers at least similar to where a bicycle has them.
@Richardhuang70 Left hand side (Hand lever and foot lever) is used for gears, Clutch is hand and Shifter is foot, Right hand side (Hand lever and foot lever) are used for brakes, Hand is front brake and foot is rear brake.
@djsfilms1 oh whoa, i didn't know that. thanks man. i did try riding a vespa a few weeks ago. and i think they still had breaks for both hand levers...but no need to change gears, so i guess it's a different layout.
Guys been running all sorts on the dyno for donkeys years, seen and heard it all and after running through the gears and hearing 'that' noise 00:34 to 00:37 tells us that this work of art is something very special.
Jeez I wish people would stop comparing this engine to the 1198 or 1098...this is a lightweight (or middleweight) superbike and not meant to be the balls out monster that it's big brother is.
I test rode one of these, the only fault i'll give it is you need 7000 rpm before it starts to fly but haveing said that, thats only cause i've rode the 1098 and like the bottom end torque, if you red line it then it does move. Bottom end isn't that bad but its when you get up in the higher gears it suffers compaired with 1098. I found it comfortable and not as bad you one would think.
I have a ZX6R its a great bike however the Duc weighs almost the exact same (dry) and has thirty more horse power and thirty more pounds of torque. Also I think this bike is the literally a piece of art especially compared to the whiny four cylinder bikes, the only thing I didn't like which I think would just take some getting used to was the posture you have on that bike it felt very narrow when I sat on one due to the two cylinder engine. Amazing machine though, ride safe guys.
@ArborCoda I have the opposite problem. I have an 09 848 and my friend has a 08(i think) zx6r and I had to get used to the different posture.lol The zx6r is a little bit more comfertable but it hurt my wrist
The 848 has a "wet" clutch as have several other Ducatis. Not all have dry clutches. Oh and you can change gears without the clutch on dry clutch bikes. It's not the clutch that makes the difference.
It has to do with racing classes; there's a class where 750 fours will race 850/900 twins, another where 500 fours will race 600/650 twins, another where 900/1000 fours will race 1200 twins...
So the Japs will produce essentially high-revving fours, the Europeans (Ducati, Apriliam, BMW, Triumph) will produce twins and triples.
Morini and Benelli are back in the game.
The only club racing European Fours are the Triumh Daytonas and the MVAgustas
It all depends on the gearing of the bike. On the 848, 5th and 6th are both acceptable, although I'd use 5th if I were operating the dyno. The ratios for 5th and 6th are 1.043 and 0.958 respectively.

848 has a wet clutch. i always change gears on my 748 (dry clutch) with out the clutch being engaged except for taking off in first of course. up or down-shift, doesn't matter.
in up shift is pretty ok, but in down shift now you're lucky becouse the clutch are made with anti slip, so if you down shift too much nothing appens, but if you down shift too much in a older bike the rear tyre block.
You can see also in moto gp when they down shift they use the clutch, when they up shift there is a sensor on the lever of the gear that cut the ignition for a fraction of second.

Keep in mind -> "The power of an engine may be measured or estimated at several points in the transmission of the power from its generation to its application." There's a difference between nominal HP (crankshaft output)and effective wheel power.
Ducati offers the 848 with 134 HP. The company promises they would measure the power of its bikes at the wheel since 2005.
Quit comparing twins to four cylinders. let me make a better comparison to show you that ducatis are NOT underpowered as a matter of fact. Check out Nicky Hayden's comments riding the Ducati MotoGP bike--coming off Honda: "I don't know how much they pay Casey Stoner, but it isn't enough. The bike is a beast!" He'd know.
And as you know faster down the straight dosent win races. Seen Haydens comments and thats all they are, comments, Hes just licking ass at the moment! Like he was when he went to Honda first.
Naw! I said your wrong, why do you think the bike in the video is after getting new pipes,Yes to make more power. I was reading an road test this week in Performance Bike magazine and it ran the 848 up against the 4 popular jap bikes and guess which one of the 5 came last, yes you guessed it! it was the 848. That was conducted by guys that know what there talking about so like I said Naw! your wrong.
sounding homosexual as in screaming like a little girl as opposing to growling like a battle hardened solider. dont care about the fucking bike tests or petty stats. the guys who tested are just a bunch of gloryfied power rangers who only care which one is fastest in a straight line. NEWSFLASH anyone can go in a straight line. useable power wins races. WSB, troy bayliss? enough said.
WOW--You--being so smart better let the rulemakers know this. It's like this: V-twins have ONLY two cylinders and HP comes from moving air/fuel. You CANNOT spin a V-twin as fast as four relatively tiny cylinders--hence superior low-end torque--but at high HP cost. Ducati has traditionally been a V-twin--kinda like Porsche is a boxter engine. Tradition. That-and many people prefer the power delivery of the V-twin.
Well mister genius, if Ducati are traditionally twins why don't they run them in Moto gp? also Ducati were not the fastest DOWN THE STRAIGHT? at every meeting last year!
um.... they do use V twins in motoGP, do you even watch the races and listen to the comentary. but they are mostly L-twins now because it pays to have it at 90 degrees like in a boxer engine. ence the fact that they take there track technology and but it into there road bikes
The School that I went to taught us that twin means(2) Even the dogs on the street know they use a V configuration, But they all are 4 cylinder motors also I don't just watch them I was at most of the races last year.I Don't know what you mean about the boxer engine? A boxer engine has a horizontal layout like what BMW and Porsche use.
yes i stand corrected theyre all 4 cylinder in the races, but why bother gettin the inline 4 when honda and suzuki dont use inlines in there motogp bikes either
Nooo, motoGP engines are all 800cc with 4 cylinders, either inline or V. Boxer engines are not nor ever were 90 degree engines. They are 180 degree engines.
Not quite, normally a 90 degree V will have the cylinders pointing up at 45 degrees or so, this is an L, there fore it has one horizontal and one vertical cylinder....that is why Ducati call it an L twin, it ressembles an L not a V........would you call the BMW twins a V only flat?
is that why my 1998 ford ranger XLT 2.3l 4cyl is so fucking slow? because it has 4cyl and is built for towing? i can burn rubber easily (probably cuz its a pickup no weight in the boot) and right when i shift or pull off it jerks a lot but quickly power is lost. and the pull is very weak almost IMMEDIATELY after i go. 1st and 2nd are strongest 3rd is ok for medium street speeds but its so fucking slow, it drives me insane
Its the only bike I think of getting Its a very beautiful design I love the pearl white I was checking out the 1098 in yellow but the price is a killer :( so I gonna go with the 848 White pearl my favorite color, Ducati is outstanding in designing super bikes. I dont want gsxr or a cbr or r6, ofcourse they are very great bikes but there is too many of em. That bike came out in 07 so far I never seen one during the season here in chicago 1098 or 848m so there you go :) DUCATI ALL THE WAY !!!!!!!!
hey man. like i said nice bike! i have no prob with how good these bikes are! but you have 2 agree alot of people that own these have their hand firmly on their cocks and will never ride these bikes to full potential.
I hate red!!! I wish the 848 came in yellow! Kill Bill style lol ANyway this is the best stock sport bike out there... If your just riding and showing off a little bit. ITs face enough to race but where im at stunt bikes are really popular... Anyone ever hear of the Starboyz lol
848 only has Pearl White and Red...the Yellow you sat on is someone bought the yellow fairing from a 1098, because both bikes are same dimensions, different engine.
Reason why I know? because if there is a yellow one, i would have got it instead of the Pearl White...
Possible there will be a 848S in yellow or what not...don't know yet from Ducati
Fantastic Motorbike! Great Handling, easy to drive, a lot of Power. And last but not least, very good looking. I was testdriving it today for 45 min.! Even with the original Sound a stunning experience!!! Some about the Color! White is nice but a Ducati must be RED!!! :-) Guess I will have soon a red 848 in my garage! :-)
It comes down to toque vs top end. Love GsxR's but every one and there moma has one.Stuniting is ok but i rather fuck shit up on corners. + originality matters.
Todays sportbikes have no problem with slipping through gears without using the clutch if you know how to run your rpm's and throttle control. They are made to be ran hard and no, it doesnt hurt anything. I like my 600rr, but I run the dog sh*t out of it.
plenty of ducati lovers can't get enough of the dry clutch jingle-jangle. it's a shame the 848 has a wet one, but it's done for weight issues i think i read, they have a low target to hit both on price and weight.
that and it's just a way better clutch in real life. takes up easier, lasts longer, modulates better, and doesn't fade. dry clutches are way cooler though.
NOT using the clutch is a good way of beating your mate by a slipt second in a straightline etc... but I think as a rule... It should be used, if you like your bike ;o)
the reason i didnt get this bike was becuase the maintance on ducs is very pricey and i dont have a dealership to close bummer

ttraynor1 3 years ago
And as you know faster down the straight dosent win races. Seen Haydens comments and thats all they are, comments, Hes just licking ass at the moment! Like he was when he went to Honda first.
thorneel 3 years ago
Consider the fact that Hayden is stoners partner nexy year ;)!!

makes those inline fours sound homosexual
beastinblack 3 years ago
My inline 4 makes more than that with 100 less cc standard!
thorneel 3 years ago
yes but only in the final 100 rpm of the powerband no doubt. Low down even my triumph bonneville has more poke.
beastinblack 3 years ago
Naw! your wrong.
thorneel 3 years ago
I am correct. inline four screams like a little girl, V twin sounds like a war cry.
beastinblack 3 years ago 5
That was conducted by guys that know what there talking about so like I said Naw! your wrong.
thorneel 3 years ago
sounding homosexual as in screaming like a little girl as opposing to growling like a battle hardened solider. dont care about the fucking bike tests or petty stats. the guys who tested are just a bunch of gloryfied power rangers who only care which one is fastest in a straight line. NEWSFLASH anyone can go in a straight line. useable power wins races. WSB, troy bayliss? enough said.
beastinblack 3 years ago 3
Bayless won on a bike that had 200cc more than all the rest! Why! cause Ducati's are under powered. Now go away from me and annoy someone else.
thorneel 3 years ago
WOW--You--being so smart better let the rulemakers know this. It's like this: V-twins have ONLY two cylinders and HP comes from moving air/fuel. You CANNOT spin a V-twin as fast as four relatively tiny cylinders--hence superior low-end torque--but at high HP cost. Ducati has traditionally been a V-twin--kinda like Porsche is a boxter engine. Tradition. That-and many people prefer the power delivery of the V-twin.
ttraynor1 3 years ago
Well mister genius, if Ducati are traditionally twins why don't they run them in Moto gp? also Ducati were not the fastest DOWN THE STRAIGHT? at every meeting last year!
thorneel 3 years ago
um.... they do use V twins in motoGP, do you even watch the races and listen to the comentary. but they are mostly L-twins now because it pays to have it at 90 degrees like in a boxer engine. ence the fact that they take there track technology and but it into there road bikes
Cronus43 3 years ago
The School that I went to taught us that twin means(2) Even the dogs on the street know they use a V configuration, But they all are 4 cylinder motors also I don't just watch them I was at most of the races last year.I Don't know what you mean about the boxer engine? A boxer engine has a horizontal layout like what BMW and Porsche use.
thorneel 3 years ago
yes i stand corrected theyre all 4 cylinder in the races, but why bother gettin the inline 4 when honda and suzuki dont use inlines in there motogp bikes either
Cronus43 3 years ago
I don't know kid! but it doesn't bother them been the odd one out in every other race series their involved in.
thorneel 3 years ago
Nooo, motoGP engines are all 800cc with 4 cylinders, either inline or V. Boxer engines are not nor ever were 90 degree engines. They are 180 degree engines.
Countavery 3 years ago
the gb desmo is a 4 cylinder in L - form!
about 260 hp....so
haddudu 3 years ago
the L is just a 90 degree V
kajkshdkjhflkas 3 years ago
ye i know, but ducati always consists on the "L"
but for me its even a V ;)
haddudu 3 years ago
Not quite, normally a 90 degree V will have the cylinders pointing up at 45 degrees or so, this is an L, there fore it has one horizontal and one vertical cylinder....that is why Ducati call it an L twin, it ressembles an L not a V........would you call the BMW twins a V only flat?
triumph1974 2 years ago
noooooooooooo like 200hp
nikumuskulozi 3 years ago
is that why my 1998 ford ranger XLT 2.3l 4cyl is so fucking slow? because it has 4cyl and is built for towing? i can burn rubber easily (probably cuz its a pickup no weight in the boot) and right when i shift or pull off it jerks a lot but quickly power is lost. and the pull is very weak almost IMMEDIATELY after i go. 1st and 2nd are strongest 3rd is ok for medium street speeds but its so fucking slow, it drives me insane

boristwotimes 3 years ago
Its the only bike I think of getting Its a very beautiful design I love the pearl white I was checking out the 1098 in yellow but the price is a killer :( so I gonna go with the 848 White pearl my favorite color, Ducati is outstanding in designing super bikes. I dont want gsxr or a cbr or r6, ofcourse they are very great bikes but there is too many of em. That bike came out in 07 so far I never seen one during the season here in chicago 1098 or 848m so there you go :) DUCATI ALL THE WAY !!!!!!!!

my first comment said it all. "porno bike". I think they are like the ferrari of bikes. Look awesome! sounds awesome! expensive! and always garaged!
ashGSXR 3 years ago 5
I hate red!!! I wish the 848 came in yellow! Kill Bill style lol ANyway this is the best stock sport bike out there... If your just riding and showing off a little bit. ITs face enough to race but where im at stunt bikes are really popular... Anyone ever hear of the Starboyz lol
BryanC38 3 years ago
uhh... Pretty sure they do come in yellow dude, and i'm pretty sure i've sat on one... yes i'm talking about the 848
Drooce 3 years ago
its comes in yellow, red and white. i'm getting 1 in like 3 months ( the white 1 )
russiankid1992 3 years ago
848 only has Pearl White and Red...the Yellow you sat on is someone bought the yellow fairing from a 1098, because both bikes are same dimensions, different engine.
Reason why I know? because if there is a yellow one, i would have got it instead of the Pearl White...
Possible there will be a 848S in yellow or what not...don't know yet from Ducati

If only Aprilias looked like Ducatis, and Ducatis sounded like Aprilias.

I was wondering if this exhaust system was street legal? I saw it on the site as racing only but I still need to be sure. Hope to find out =).
takiyan 3 years ago
dude no aftermarket pipes are legal. you should be okay, just dont pull up beside a cop and redline it:0 haha
CentaurRacer44 3 years ago 3
lol that would suck, why should it matter if its louder, nothing happens with the emissions, DOT should revise the noise ordinance.
kingcr3b 3 years ago
Todays sportbikes have no problem with slipping through gears without using the clutch if you know how to run your rpm's and throttle control. They are made to be ran hard and no, it doesnt hurt anything. I like my 600rr, but I run the dog sh*t out of it.
akeene87 3 years ago
love the ducati's but i hate the metalic grinding sound of the clutch when stopped/low speed
but i do love the raw growl of a v-twin, i'd take that over an inline 4 any day!
BackwheelBandit 3 years ago
New wet clutch system has solved that... It sounds a dream!
bikerboyzx6r 3 years ago 3
'solved' !
plenty of ducati lovers can't get enough of the dry clutch jingle-jangle. it's a shame the 848 has a wet one, but it's done for weight issues i think i read, they have a low target to hit both on price and weight.
yeknommonkey 3 years ago
that and it's just a way better clutch in real life. takes up easier, lasts longer, modulates better, and doesn't fade. dry clutches are way cooler though.
Jmartin2683 3 years ago
NOT using the clutch is a good way of beating your mate by a slipt second in a straightline etc... but I think as a rule... It should be used, if you like your bike ;o)
bikerboyzx6r 3 years ago
super nice bike...WTF is he using the clutch???
akeene87 3 years ago
They put clutches on them for a reason, dude. Remind me not to buy a bike from you...
