Yes, the guy in the closet. That filthy rich motherfucker who has billions, more money than he could spend in his lifetime, and he still wants more. That guy is the enemy. Dick Cheney and George Bush are his puppets.
Obama has dirty hands too, no doubt. I am not a complete fool. But he is a thousand times better than Cheney/Bush.
Get back to the point we were discussing, partner -- America, and white supremacy IN AMERICA. Yes there have been some great white Americans who FOUGHT AGAINST THIS EVIL. And good for them. But the laws and evil practices went on unabated UNTIL VERY VERY RECENTLY.
Railroads were built primarily by Chinese and Indians, who would regularly be shot for target practice, just for fun. No getting around the evils of white supremacy in America.
That is the first thing you have said that is correct. Yes, driving wedeges between the races among the working class, has been one of the chief tactics of the enemy.
And who is the enemy again? The Super wealthy, the huge multi-national corporations, the JP Morgans and Vanderbilts, the white male power structure that has pulled the strings in America since the beginning of America.
I hate to break this to you, since your whole philosophy will crumble when you realize the obvious -- BUT WHITE SUPREMACY DOES EXIST -- and has been the norm IN AMERICA since the beginning of America. The enlightenment thinkers (upon which American govt is based,) WROTE OPENLY ABOUT THE SUPERIORITY OF THE WHITE RACE.
You are just wrong -- way wrong -- OBVIOUSLY wrong. I am old enough to remember when the notion of white superiority was ACCEPTED AS FACT. As it still is in many parts of the South
I completely agree... Whether or not Judge Sotomayor's statement would be sound better or worse if you replaced "wise Latina" with "wise white man" is irrelevent to her situation, because it isn't the same, even if it wasn't taken out of context. Racism is still very much alive today, it's just that it's more subconscious and less obvious than before. As it stands, we white Americans are not in any danger of falling victim to racial oppression the way other races have been throughout history.
Its funny, isnt it? White people (I am a white male,) are always complaining about people of color using the "victim card." But when a Black man gets elected president, they turn into the worst kind of whining pussies EVER. They are the FIRST ONES TO JUMP IMMEDIATELY INTO THE VICTIM CHAIR. Poor white male Christians!!
Some white people (see Bill OReilly) are faster in claiming victimhood than any two-bit crack whore.
I love when loud mouths like O'Reilly babble on and on about racism being dead, especially now that Obama is president, but then find themselves whining like children about inconsequential misinterpretations of so-called "reverse racism" like this. The best part is when they get called out on their hypocrisy and just shrug it off. "Well, minorities do this all the time," using the same racism they deny as a justification for their own victimhood.
The important thing to point out is that what we think of as racism, or even race, is almost entirely a white construct. If a black person mocks an Asian person or vise versa, it still exists within the system that was created through Western, white, colonial ideology.
Yes, xenophobia exists and has existed in all societies. That's why most indigenous cultures define themselves as "the people" or "the true people" and everyone else as some kind of foreigner or barbarian. Just look at how society forces Judge Sotomayor into a Latina category when in Latin America, race is much more complex than simply everyone being a Latino. What we're specifically talking about here, in the United States, is a problem created by white dominance and we must evaluate it as such
Right on wicaco. Well put, and ased on the facts of history. It is refreshing to read a well-informed comment, after the ones I've been reading today.
Are you dense? I clearly addressed racism and xenophobia in other cultures in my posts. If you want to debate like an intelligent person, read first before copying and pasting your presumptive, pre-written rhetoric.
As I said, xenophobia exists in all human societies. Humans have divided themselves since the dawn of man. HOWEVER, we're talking about the United States. The Western World. Sotomayor's comments exist in that context, and have nothing to do with India's caste system.
Racism as it exists in the United States is a distinct form that must be understood in its own right. Where the society of the United States stands right now is the product of hundreds of years of Euro-American dominance, not Chinese or Afghani. What we call "black", "white", or "Latino" are terms that exist in our modern society - they are not universal and have not existed throughout history. They are products of white supremacy and have been used IN THIS COUNTRY as tools to maintain power.
wicaco If dividing people by "races" is a tool by the power structure" to retain power, then let's end that evil today;take the race identification box off of all Civil Service Tests ,job applications, college admission applications and so forth;let's go with a color blind policy.
Also, by listing the case of Rwanda, you have demonstrated your lack of understanding of that conflict. If you didn't know, in pre-colonial times the Hutu and the Tutsi did not exist as clear-cut, seperate ethnic groups. British and German colonialists sharpened the divide between the two groups with a hypothesis that the Tutsi were "whiter", having North African blood, thus making them "whiter' and superior to the Hutus. Yes, you listed a perfect example of racism as a white construct. Thanks.
taoofmichael You and wicaco learn anything USEFUL in school besides "Whites are to blame for Everything?you blew all the tuition money.fine. but don't fuck with hard working firefighters that need to support their families. You guys can sit in the coffee shop fixing the world's problems;iWhen you volunteer to give up a job or opportunity of your OWN to make up for racial injustice, maybe someone willlisten to your crap;somehow ,Liberals never do that.
Their grievances are nothing compared to the grievances of people of color in America.
White people, who have enjoyed all the advantages America has to offer, without impediment, since the beginning, are always talking about people of color claiming victimization.
In my experience, people of color rarely claim victimization, unless there is a very real reason. White Christian males, on the other hand, will start whining about victimization faster than a two-bit crack whore.
Taoofmichael What the Hell planet are you living on;?in their churches,in their Afican American Studies Departments, through black columnists and radio hosts, there is PLENTY of claims of victimization; not to mention on a personal level;;;;ask retailers what happens when an eye is kept on known black shoplifters or doing basic check verification;;yRacism had been blamed for crime, economic inequality, not being able to get a loan etc ;.sometimes they're right;but to say they never complain..
What I said was: In MY EXPERIENCE, people of color RARELY claim victimization UNLESS THERE IS A VERY GOOD REASON. That has been MY EXPERIENCE. Many many many Black people in America HAVE A VERY GOOD REASON.
White Christian males DONT HAVE A GOOD REASON. And yet, THEY CRY "VICTIM" FASTER THAN A TWO-BIT CRACK WHORE.
I'm not denying racism against Blacks in America;terrible inner city schools(Thank You Democrats and your fealty to teacher's unions, crime to an extent, etc. but my experience has been White people not complaining;I've wojked with Whites in their 20 and 30's earning $7 an hour, working 2 jobs to get their goals met; and,AGAIN, what you said is belied every day on t.v. where some group is claiming racism;,and it's rarely a white group;Sharpton and Jackson have made careers shaking people down
In fact lets break down the whole "white : black" paradigm if you will, considering "white" people's ancestry is Central Asian, but we don't go around calling them Asians etc.
We are all essentially different colors of people!
The assholes calling Sotomayor "racist" are themselves projecting their Xenophobia and prejudice
"We white Americans are in no danger of falling victim to racial oppression" what nonsense;why did the firefighters have to sue;the quotas ARE a form of oppression.
No matter what one's stance may be on the case of the white fire fighters, when it comes down to it all of the policies that influenced and led to it were again, created by a white, Euro-American-dominated society.
Please, the "racism is dead because we have a black president" retort is the most trite attempt at a debate point there is. I saw it coming a year before Obama was elected, and the fact that you actually use it just makes me laugh. If you want to be taken seriously, please come back with some substance...
wicaco Never said Racism is dead; but doesn't your quote:all the policies that influenced and led to it(the Ricci case)were again created by a White ,Euro American society argue against this society being racist?i mean,if aff action led to the Riccci Case, and Euro-Americans created afirmative action, isn't that an argument against the society being racist? That is ,if you believe A.A. ISN'T racism
White Supremacy is one of the PHILOSOPHIES OF THE DEVIL -- WITHOUT A DOUBT. And if Farakan said that, he was right about that. He may have said other things I disagree with (I am not a student of Farakan.) But he, apparently, did say ONE THING that was INDISPUTABLY TRUE.
Irish were not sold on blocks as animals, families separated, culture and language erased, raped and murdered with impunity, and denied the right to defend themselves in court -- LIKE I SAID.
I suppose you can come up with an example of a canary eating an alligator too -- but I dont think that would prove the point that canaries eat alligators.
In America -- WHITE SUPREMACY has been the norm, in law, culture, economics, etc. SINCE THE BEGINNING.
I am talking about America. In America, white supremacy does, in fact, exist. And it was CODIFIED IN AMERICAN LAW up until very recently. American law HAS ALWAYS FAVORED WHITE PEOPLE.
And dont use that tired Irish argument. Yes, Irish, and Russians, are sometimes poor in America -- but they had the right to defend themselves in court, they were not sold as animals, families separated, language and culture erased, lynched with impunity...
MLK said that, BECAUSE OF THE RAMPANT WHITE SUPREMACY IN AMERICA.
Religious feuds are different, true.
But all the examples you gave, and ALL PROBLEMS THAT HAVE EVER COME ABOUT IN AMERICA, AS A RESULT OF SKIN COLOR come from the belief in White Supremacy.
Humanist is great. But when one cultural group insists they are SUPERIOR TO ALL OTHER GROUPS -- that is the problem.
And that is THE ONLY PROBLEM, which involves skin color, THAT HAS EVER EXISTED IN AMERICA -- WHITE SUPREMACY

I dare ANYBODY to go to their work place and make a "latina" comment and see how fast their ass gets shown the door - and tell me again she is not racist.
the comment was wrong, period. it was a clear statement and in my opinion, you can't spin it to mean something else. If a white guy said something like that, it would be over for them.
That's the thing though, why would a white guy say something like that? It wouldn't make much sense, and there's a history of white people treating other races like they're inferior, to make matters worse.
I'm not going to change your mind about this, but there's a context for everything. For example, forget race, there are things that a non-wealthy person can say, but when a wealthy person says the same thing, it has a different meaning. There's always a broader context, c'mon!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
David Duke. Limbaugh. Mohamed Ali. That's one thing. But we are talking about a Supreme Court Justice nominee who is SUPPOSED to be professional enough to keep racist remarks OUT of the court room while on the clock. Not even Judge Judy would ever say such a thing.
That's right-one racist remark-for most people, would get fired from their job. That's all it takes-one racist remark. End of career. Most people would have gotten fired if they made some kind of "Latina" remark in the work place. Not even Judge Judy would have said such a thing.
WE ALL have to watch our mouths when we are on the job. That "Latina" comment was no different than anybody else on the clock-obviously the woman cannot control her emotions or be professional, not even as the role of Judge. Most people would have been FIRED for such a remark on the job. Not even Judge Judy would say such a thing.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
You have to be VERY CAREFUL what you say-that goes for EVERYBODY-who is on the clock. Anybody else who made that "latina" comment would have been fired from their employment. Obviously Sotomayor is not professional enough to keep her mouth in check, representing a person who lets their emotions run them. I think it's HORRIBLE this woman was nominated. Not even Judge Judy would say such a thing.
Uh oh...Tell all the rich, White men to run and hide!!!!! A LATINA IS COMING TO GET YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She's bringing with her justice and...EMPANADAS!

If Sotomayor becomes Supreme Court Judge-kiss Roe vs. Wade goodbye-a good CATHOLIC will vote against it and abolish it. Say hello to coat hangers and Draino douches-Draino belongs in SINKS-not in vaginas to get rid of a baby.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Then why couldn't she answer their questions on her views. I would have said I would have upheld the law because it's the law-and I would have said abortion would never go away even if Roe vs. Wade didn't exist-people would just to to Wal-Mart and get Draino or coat hangers. That's EXACTLY how I would have answered that question rather than NOT give an answer.
shes not racist. you racist people try to blame latinos for everything. They do the jobs that you lazy people will NEVER do. so dont try to say that they are stealing the jobs.

And dont use that tired Irish argument. Yes, Irish, and Russians, are sometimes poor in America -- but they had the right to defend themselves in court, they were not sold as animals, families separated, language and culture erased, lynched with impunity...

Sotomayor has HOT breath!! LOL!!!
IIIJHUSSLEIII 2 years ago
MLK said that, BECAUSE OF THE RAMPANT WHITE SUPREMACY IN AMERICA.
Religious feuds are different, true.
But all the examples you gave, and ALL PROBLEMS THAT HAVE EVER COME ABOUT IN AMERICA, AS A RESULT OF SKIN COLOR come from the belief in White Supremacy.
Humanist is great. But when one cultural group insists they are SUPERIOR TO ALL OTHER GROUPS -- that is the problem.
And that is THE ONLY PROBLEM, which involves skin color, THAT HAS EVER EXISTED IN AMERICA -- WHITE SUPREMACY
taoofmichael 2 years ago
There is only ONE KIND OF RACISM in America that has EVER BEEN A PROBLEM.
That is the doctrine of White Supremacy.
Period.

I don't want her to get elected because she just seems like a bitch! She's smart. She's not racist. She is just a bitch!

If she's a bitch then she might balance out Scalia

Interesting comment. Think about this:
She would indeed be making history. She would not only be the 1st hispanic Supreme Court Justice.
She would also be the 1st Supreme Court Justice to ever be ELECTED!!
Why don't you educate yourself on a subject before commenting on it.

WinterHaven, it would appear to me that, on your end, your comments don't appear to be submitting correctly, as you appear to be re-wording your own comments and reposting them 3 or 4 times.
Yeah, we get it. Judge Judy, et cetera.

I dare ANYBODY to go to their work place and make a "latina" comment and see how fast their ass gets shown the door - and tell me again she is not racist.
WinterHaven 2 years ago
the comment was wrong, period. it was a clear statement and in my opinion, you can't spin it to mean something else. If a white guy said something like that, it would be over for them.
dankwilliams 2 years ago
That's the thing though, why would a white guy say something like that? It wouldn't make much sense, and there's a history of white people treating other races like they're inferior, to make matters worse.
I'm not going to change your mind about this, but there's a context for everything. For example, forget race, there are things that a non-wealthy person can say, but when a wealthy person says the same thing, it has a different meaning. There's always a broader context, c'mon!

David Duke. Limbaugh. Mohamed Ali. That's one thing. But we are talking about a Supreme Court Justice nominee who is SUPPOSED to be professional enough to keep racist remarks OUT of the court room while on the clock. Not even Judge Judy would ever say such a thing.
WinterHaven 2 years ago
The remark wasn't IN the court room!
There's a difference.

That's right-one racist remark-for most people, would get fired from their job. That's all it takes-one racist remark. End of career. Most people would have gotten fired if they made some kind of "Latina" remark in the work place. Not even Judge Judy would have said such a thing.
WinterHaven 2 years ago
WE ALL have to watch our mouths when we are on the job. That "Latina" comment was no different than anybody else on the clock-obviously the woman cannot control her emotions or be professional, not even as the role of Judge. Most people would have been FIRED for such a remark on the job. Not even Judge Judy would say such a thing.

I would like every Senator on this committee to have video and the statements they have made since they first ran for office to be presented to them.
Let's see these worms squirm then! Right Senator Sessions?

You have to be VERY CAREFUL what you say-that goes for EVERYBODY-who is on the clock. Anybody else who made that "latina" comment would have been fired from their employment. Obviously Sotomayor is not professional enough to keep her mouth in check, representing a person who lets their emotions run them. I think it's HORRIBLE this woman was nominated. Not even Judge Judy would say such a thing.

Jesus Christ. How many times does this poor woman have to explain this?

If Sotomayor becomes Supreme Court Judge-kiss Roe vs. Wade goodbye-a good CATHOLIC will vote against it and abolish it. Say hello to coat hangers and Draino douches-Draino belongs in SINKS-not in vaginas to get rid of a baby.

:(....those poor little babies.....why are human beings so evil.

the supreme court is already majority conservative. i would not worry about roe v Wade

A good catholic would vote against havig sex.
Thank god the world is filled with athesists and "bad" catholics or their would be no human race.

I would say a "Latina" comment is racist. Why don't you make a "latina" comment at your work place and see how fast they kick your ass out the door.
