It's funny. I grew up with voiceless SC2 too, then played SC3 with voices, then UQM came and gave SC2 voices. I thought it was an improvement. I was bothered by some voices not sounding like in SC3, but most of them were as good. Except for the Orz. The SC3 Orz voice acting was absolutely incredible and conveyed things the SC2 one never did.
And for some reason I saw the female Zoq-Fot-Pik voice as being the plant.
Haha - I think you'll be disappointed. It's not even funny in the Japanese. He just says: "Prepare to attack... Oh wait - I don't have any weapons! AHH! I don't have any weapons! Somebody stole my weapons! Oh wait, I never had any weapons."
There's no pun at all.
It's just bad... Even the "EARTHLING. YOUR. FACE. FUNNY. THING." is read in a completely normal way---no halting or anything.
Interesting! :O I just find translation differences fascinating more than anything else. I guess the arm pun doesn't work if arms and arm aren't homophones. :O
I would totally beam down to Alpha Cerenkov I for some hot trans-species tentacle action. Much to the chagrin and disgust of my subordinates I'd imagine.
it's "wareware wa". Wareware is a kind of formal, sort of old-fashioned way to refer to a whole collective like one's business (or in this case, one's species) I think.
Some of these were pretty good, like the Yeehat, but most were failures because the actors don't entirely understand the sarcasm in certain statements etc :)
It's tough since it's almost impossible to translate all the nuance of the English lines into Japanese. A lot of the humor in SC2 was how things were phrased, and it's hard to get that across in Japanese since both languages are structured so differently. :O Although that does make for some interesting blunt changes, like ZEX talking about "a love greater than friendship" hehehehe
To be honest, I was kinda 'meh' over most of the voices, Japanese or English. A few of the Japanese I do prefer over the English, like the Zoq-Fot-Pik (especially the blue guy ^^), the Orz, the Mycon, or the Utwig, but there are still some where I find the English voices work better, like the Arilou, the Syreen, the Druuge, or the Dillrats - uh - Ilwrath. Overall, especially since I know what TERRIBLE voice acting really sounds like, I find SC2 to at least be passable.
Wow, the Ur-Quan sound so powerful and refined, just like how I imagined them.
The Utwig... Wow, they sound depressed which is fitting, but they also sound rather young...
Now I'm certain ZEX wants to rape me.
The Yehat... Blaargh, NOT how I expected a proud race of warriors to sound, least of all ones that resemble Rodan
And there's my first allies- the Zoq-Fot-Pik. Besides their nice ships, I loved all their arguements, used to keep a save for just that. FRUNGY FRUNGY FRUNGY!
Zoq Foq Pik was the only one that had some emotion put into it IMO.

I prefer meh over blinding hatred, and the English voices provide me with the latter more than the former.

Kzer-Za - I love how he doesn't sound so sloooow in the Japanese version.
Utwig - he sounds so adorably depressed!
ZEX - I always thought he sounded more like an old woman...if George Takei spoke Japanese as ZEX, then I'll be pleased for life! XD
