A lot of good sax players prefer a mic on a stand so they can back away from it for a tremolo effect or to tune their instrument or to lower the volume the way a singer does when singing a louder note. This also gives them the option to use a large diaphragm mic. I think he's using a Neumann here; Karl Denson uses an EV.

Well, yo. The changes are D/D/Eb/D. That doesn't mean you think of playing licks, it means that it's the key you're playing in. Every song has changes... but not every song has just chords. And the first two A-sections are D, the bridge is Eb, and the the A-section out is D. Can't you see how trane experimented with reharmonizing some of Miles's songs? Impressions comes from So What... Countdown comes from Tune Up... and so many more.
