hey! ian is a soul searcher! we gain little in studying others than ourselves, know yourself, name yourself. everyone is a potential revolutionist by virtue of character uniqueness.
As a reader of your comment I think your very negative. Your just venting anger irrationally towards someone who just has different ideas from you. Why be negative when you can be positive? Think about that.
I agree with the concept of searching one's self in regards to philosophy. One has to ask questions about life in order to search for some answers. :)
I understand that you are using machines as a metaphor. But, you said that if we speak truth, we take the weight off of our shoulders. Rather, wouldn't the person listening be taking the weight off of our shoulders? What right do we have to give them our weight? However I love the idea.
you know,my sole opinion is that it wasnt that interesting, but still i have respect that he can lay out his thoughts for everyone to poke at. I love his psuedo stoner talk though.
Perhaps you are assuming that because you feel you lack life experience. I have lived in New York City, Chicago, and now Los Angeles. Also in Ohio and I got a college degree in theatre at Kent State. I dated a girl on and off for about 8 1/2 years that was both horrific and amazing. Also I got drunk and had a lot of sex with a lot of different people for a few years. I analyzed everything so much that I realized it's all the same and then back again. This is life experience to me.
No, he gets strong reactions because he's charismatic and says mindnumbingly moronic things over and over and over and over and over and over and over again.
ill give anyone 10 bucks if they can count how many times he says "Philosophers" he must have just learned that word.lol dude come back down to earth.
You make philosophy sound so flimsy and meaningless. Sure, it can be that. But there is a cohesive body of philosophical thought 'out there' that has a depth of understanding and a truth beyond individuals random subjective babblings.
Sorry, but this has to all be an act. No one can possibly be this stupid without it being an act. Ian, when will you give up this act? People are starting to figure you out.
Overcoming philosophy? OVERCOMING philosophy? Well, I guess you might as well, you've already "overcome" having any true understanding of child abuse, religion, war, or sexuality; might as well add the human condition to the things you are too lazy to study. Dumping a can of paint in a vacant lot is not art, and the random firings of an uneducated mind are not philosophy.
Uh huh...and what would you guess are the odds of a spilled can of paint in a vacant lot changing someone's life, Ian? You think if you just keep babbling sooner or later art's going to pop out? You think 4,000 years of brilliant minds expanding the ideas of philosophy is all shit and that YOU found the truth in a bag of weed and a video camera? If you were any more intellectually lazy you'd go into a coma.
I believe we are evolved versions of all humanity before us and that all philosophy is mixed within us. Reading it does not hinder us, but there are other ways of exploring than reading. I have always been an aural learner, I stopped doing much homework in 4th grade.
"...I stopped doing much homework in 4th grade." It shows. If you had the SLIGHTEST knowledge of literature, for example, you'd know that humans 3,000-4,000 years ago had the same emotions, hopes, fears, and depth of thought that we have today. We are not more evolved than them, you fool. We're the SAME as them. And 'we' have been accumulating wisdom in books for 4,000 years, wisdom that YOU choose to ignore because it's easier to just make shit up. Go spill another can of paint in a vacant lot.
Wow, that came out more pissed than I meant. Here's what gets me, okay? You refuse to do one second's research on anything because you believe you're on a higher plane of evolution and don't need education, and then you just invent these meaningless, sometimes dangerous 'theories', like suggesting people STAY in abusive relationships and heal them from within. You're like an infant with a handgun.
Could not agree more Danno. I would be embarrassed to be that blatant and visible with my ignorance. What's scarier is the people that are actually inspired by this drivel. 'Free yourself of the secrets, that is the journey'? What the fuck, that doesnt mean anything!! Whats truly sad is that all the morons make the videos and all the people who actually know shit say fuck it, no one will listen to me anyway.
LOL, Danno21F!! no disrespect to IanCrossland, but yes, he needs to read more.
i'm sorry IanCrossland, but your ideas are reminiscent of those that my stoner friends had when i was in high school. i used to think that drugs made me more philosophical, but they didn't. my husband, a philosophy major, has taught me a few things about formulating philosophies, and that includes reading...LOTS of reading.
Dude , are you high ? You speak like a stoner .I get it your " shtick " or " niche " is stoners .Fuck yeah that's alright man .I totally get it bro. That's really different . Wish I'd thought of that .
Yes! overcome fear. In formal education, I have a degree in philosophy, and MBA, amoung others, but a "degree" in life is a continuing search of knowledge. Thank YOU Ian.
I want to help the people that are already surviving (and have been innundated with entertainment) first because it is changing our way of thought that will change the way of life for the others. Until we are enlightened we will only be living self satisfying lives. We must understand ourselves in order to help those around us. We are creating a shockwave.
I understand that, but you said, "it takes the weight off your shoulders, literally". There is no weight on your shoulders (shirt aside), therefore it cannot literally be taken off. Mixing a figurative speech with literally is almost always incorrect english.
That aside, you don't seem to have presented any data to support the claim of "thought mass". You can be sure almost every physicist would argue that gravity is a function of mass and distance, not of an abstract concept like thought.
Thought affects the gravity that is lost to the extra dimensions. Things are constantly flowing and changing; weight of thought is not just a figure of speech.
What makes you believe that this is the case? Do you have empirical evidence? Can you reproduce these results under an experimental setting? Or perhaps this is just a philosophical theory which just happens to fit?
And by the way, I just want to make it clear I'm not trying to be offensive in any way. I find you genuinely interesting, even if I disagree with most of what you say.
I am using science's belief in string theory and gravitational dispersion to induce this theory. I am using my own experiential understanding as well. All theory begins with a concept. People go looking for things. I believe we do not have the scientific tools to measure thought mass yet, but that we will.
WTF??? this sounds like the sort of discussion we had when I was in high school and "stoned" out of our minds on pot laced with hash. Dude you have found urself some good shit, cuz you make as much sense as using boiled blood for auto fuel. Get yourself some "annie green springs" wine and some Jimmy Hendrix and soon you'll be meeting those little green men from Mars. Peace!!! and stay away from those black lites.
i totally get this one. and that is because i have secrets that are bogging me down. i think everyone does, but i'm not sure everyone is willing to make the internet their confessional. including me. but i get it. and i might try it. ian- this one is gold. i don't care who you are. good idea. later-jen
When you say "Speak the truth" Cant the truth be different for different ppl? So when you say you speak the truth are arent you Stating an opinion and not the truth. you have alot of idea what might hold truth to you but that does not mean your truth is my truth and fits in my reality. just because you state thoughts does not make you a philosopher. U had a few good videos when you talked about yourslef but now again you just rambling random thoughts then try to tie it together.
He doesn't read books. He is a pholosopher of his own thoughts. Other people's thoughts don't matter to him. Atleast that's what I get from his vids, lol.
Ian, baby... if speaking your truth on vid. gets you away from the "fear of violence"... are you REALLY, facing your fear? It's much easier to do things online than for real. Real is what counts though. No?
Wow I guess I actually understood that metaphor, but it still was kinda extreme :P.
But why just videos? I can get the same exact effect just by writing my thoughts down, whenever I'm battling with myself over something :P. I agree sharing the difficult things with someone else will always help, but I don't get it why does it have specificly to happen on video and on the internet, when there's a lot other available channels out there.
Oh I know, that's why your videos are so much more compelling and enlightening than say, George Elliot, Virginia Woolf, Don Dellilo, Dante, Hemmingway, Ben Okri, Italo Calvino, Voltaire, Melville, etc etc. I don't even think we need libraries anymore.
I love how he says when you save someone life you do it for yourself..IAN STFUUUUUUUUU PLEASE fucking dumbass. Go smoke some pot you're fucking burnt ..you're a self center little bitch. Stop twisting shit around.
Reading books, taking classes, studying, learning, listening, observing, are ways to upload information to the harddrive called the brain. Philosophers study more than themselves. You, Ian, also try to belittle those that study philosophy and philosophers, however, as usual it makes you come across as self-righteous. We all know that you are lazy and don't want to do the work but want all the glory. Good luck with that.
lol, your thoughts are so confusing and full of ramblings that no one can follow them. A suggestion for the future...filter some of your 'uploads', because when you 'upload' too much, it turns into a rambling mess and it is hard to follow what your trying to convey to your viewers. I've noticed you like to say EVERYTHING that pops into your head, but you have to learn to organize your thoughts.
Confessionals are always done in private so as to protect the person telling their secrets from outside hostility. Giving your fear to others makes you weak in their eyes and they feel the can then attack your weaknesses. Never never never hand your fear to anyone.
