Episodes 1 - 7 have been pretty fun to watch, but THIS episode has a hella-lot of action. It also seems out of place, and is definitely not consistent with the other episodes... WTF... I like the extra action, but I'm not too happy about the inconsistency...
What I had read previously was that the rest of the episodes were made to have their own style and flavor but Storm Front was based directly off of the actual book so it was in a style more akin to the story.
I really liked this show and I thought Paul did a GREAT job as Harry. This show also led me to the audiobooks, which I love, with James Marsters reading who makes Harry Dresden's world utterly amazing!
when did he tell her about magic " i never read the book's" and how can u find the 2 hour version . who wrote this book i want to find it and read it too
The books are by Jim Butcher. The two hour cut of this is pretty hard to come by, I wish Lionsgate would release the extended version of Storm Front to DVD. They could release all three as a special disc. The original pilot, the episode cut, and the refurbished extended version (best version). I'd buy it.
You'll like the books even more. The show, as much as I love it, is very much watered down. It's limited by budget and run time, whereas the books are limited only by Jim Butcher's imagination. Much more epic, and by now I believe there are more books than there are episodes of the show.
great series but i want to read the books.. which one comes first in the book series? cause i heard that it was storm front which confuses since this is episode 8...
Storm Front is the first book, and I'm thinking this is actually the pilot because in this episode is almost *perfect* with the books, as in, in the books, Harry lives in a crappy basement apartment, with a cat, and Bob is actually *just* a skull, not a spirit that walks, instead he can only talk and sometimes be allowed out in the open.
Yes, this was the pilot. The Talking skull wasn't working so they revamped Bob into a Sir Simon de Canterville style ghost. It works better. There's a two hour version of this episode but it's hard to come by. I highly recommend it.
The Beetle was chosen because it doesn't have many modern parts. The Jeep was chosen for the same reason, it just works better because the actor is very tall and they didn't want to hurt him by making him sit in a cramped space for long periods of time.
I like most everything about the series but the cops are portrayed as thick, dense, slow or just dumb. I mean seriously. It's like they were JUST MADE cops. Not even Law & Order CI is that bad.
yeah i can see how this was the first in chronoligical order.... this episode seems really far out of place with the last episode... hes at a completely different residence and yes where is bob?
This was originally a 2 hour pilot. At this point they were still trying to follow the books. Bob was just a talking skull in the books. I'm not sure why they put it as ep8 in the chronology this is the first book.
We should petition to try to get them to release the two hour version of this episode to DVD. Of course I don't know how much good that will do considering this show had a petition to try to save it with over 15,000 signatures and the Scifi Channel ignored it...
ive read the books so ive been trying to look at this show from an outsiders point of view and i really like it i appreciate the plotline whic are very good and while not staying to close to the book what they have done with the series is amazing
I always wondered how close Paul was to Harry's height. He does look really tall.
I just wish that they could have at least made Murphy short and blonde. I like the actor that plays her, i can't remember her name, she is really good. oh well. you can only wish.
Paul Blackthorne is very tall. He's roughly three inches shorter than the book version of Harry which is still extremely tall. He towers over Bob (Terrence Mann) and he's six feet tall. Mouse never appeared on the show. Mouse didn't exist in the books until book six. Storm Front (episode eight) was book one. So if the show had endured you had a long way to go before seeing a show version of Mouse. I miss this show so much.
Yes, you see the Blue Beetle briefly. There were two reasons they couldn't use it on the show. Paul Blackthorne is a very tall man and it would have been physically painful for him in such a tight space for long spans of time. That sort of car is expensive and the Scifi Channel didn't have the budget for it or it's up keep. Also they thought they would have had to have a sliced one in half for internal shots. It was just more practical to switch it to a Jeep and it serves the same purpose.
Actually, yes, an old Beetle is very expensive, especially if you want one that you can slice in half and need replacement parts. Also it's impractical for six feet tall actors or taller, several hours in one of those would kill Terrence Mann's or Paul Blackthorne's spines. Old Beetles are some of the most expensive cars you can get.
This episode was probably closest to the books though it was NOT my favorite. There were some great magick moments but unfortunately due to this being a cut down pilot episode there are a few plot holes and inconsistencies. The 2 hour cut of this episode (which actually has the ghost) is far superior in quality. Unfortunately it only aired on SciFi once and it was at three AM. If you can find the two hour version of this episode I strongly recommend it. Unfortunately it's not on the DVD set.
The more powerful a wizard is, the more he interferes with high-tech electronics. Harry uses a gas stove and an old phone for this reason. It's also why he does most of his work by candle light. He uses his issue with electronics to his advantage in Rules of Engagement and he mentions something bad happening to the microwave in one of the DVD deleted scenes. In Soul Beneficiary he briefly worries that his issues with technology might hurt people. This is also why he uses an old vehicle.
Susan was suppose to be black or dark skinned at least.
