The audience had no realtive context in which to place this music. It barely sounded like music to most of them. That was part of what was so awesome for those of use that heard this new music, we knew we were hearing something very fresh and creative, not just edgy for the sake of it - but really pushing the edges. It still sounds divinely weird today - now due to all the music genres inspired by our beloved Spudboys, ears are more open. now the story of DeEvoloution can be told!
The audience got stonewalled; they were incapable of perceiving the awesomeness before them and thusly transformed it into a collective hallucination their minds could grasp. A hallucination to which their reactions reflected their inner most desires of doing nothing.
I feel that this Devo at it's best. Before this they were a little too, well, "messy" in thier live preformances, but after "Q.Are We Not Men?" they got too electronic for my taste.
@Alain: Brilliant! Thank you so VERY much for finding and posting this! Great versions of old classics I wish they'd play today. The intro to 'Satisfaction" is great, too. (Do you have that one, too?)
Im am amazed . Soo bawls?

First: What the heck is hanging off Gerry's face??

These songs are so awesome and prog-rocky. If anyone ever needed proof that Devo knows what they are doing technically, this is it.
