  • Thank you for replying so quickly. I've read the caresheet now and found it extremely helpful. Before reading it, I didn't know that they were hemophiliacs, and I can see now how horrible an idea spaying was. I have more questions, though. Do the boys spray? Are the boys any different than the girls when it comes to behavior. I read on the caresheet that your girl usually showed more affection, but is that the norm?

  • @MrsMonkeyMuffin I think the boys tend to be more outgoing and girls a little more of a one person animal but they all have their own personalities so nothing is certain there. They don;t spray but both can let off a bit of a smell when scared or stressed and do dribble urine as they run around like rats do.

  • Oh, and on more thing... If I get a girl, what should I expect when her heat comes along? Should I get her spayed if I don't plan to breed, or would that be a bad idea?

  • @MrsMonkeyMuffin Pua gets more hyper and they do leave bloody discharge. This happens monthly. No you can't spay them they will almost surely die. They are hemophiliacs and very delicate.

  • hi. I'm considering getting a tamandua as a pet. I'm trying to learn as much as I can before hand. I've been researching them online, and most places say that you're the person to ask, so I guess I'll just ask. What is the best way to house train them? How many times a day should I feed them and how much food per feeding? How well do they get along with other animals?

  • @MrsMonkeyMuffin Have you read the caresheet and FAQ? You can find them on Hubpages. You can give them treats for going where you want though it helps to put a pad or tray where they most like to go. They will never be 100% and will dribble pee as they run around like rats do only being bigger is more messy. I leave food out for them whenever they are awake but they ear around 1.5 to 2 cups a night.

They are not aggressive with other animals but will defend themselves & do not like them either
