  • It sure as hell sounds and looks like Gordon Lightfoot.

I've known him since he was 16 years old.

But, I'm getting older like him... but, it sounds and looks like him.

The quality of the tape makes me wonder, but... the suit rings a bell.

  • whatever. Edwin Fitzpatrick would kick Gorgon Lighthouse ass FACT

  • NOW, please, get your facts straight and leave the rest of us who enjoy Gordon Lightfoot alone. IF YOU HAVE PROOF that THIS IS NOT LIGHTFOOT, I'd suggest you report this to YOUTUBE.

  • Folseal....where did you get the information that this is someone named Edmund Fitzpatrick?

I saw Gordon Lightfoot in concert las year and if THIS is not GORDON...then he has an identical twin.

The vdieo say: Gordon Lightfoot - Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.

IT does not say Edmund Fitzpatrick - Wreck of the Edmund Fitztgerald.

Apparently you have not attended a concert of Gordon's in ages ! He's now 73 years young and he still sounds amazing. THIS is GORDON LIGHTFOOT.

  • @Folseal: Gordon Lightfoot was born Gordon Meredith Lightfoot, Jr in Orillia, Ontario, on born November 17, 1938. Gordon Lightfoot sang and made popular the song "The Wreck of the Edmond Fitzgerald".

Have no idea why your are talking about someone named Edmund Fitzpatrick on this page unless you are a troll just trying to yank our chains. Go somewhere else and bother someone else. Never even heard of ANY singer by the name of Edmund Fitzpatrick. You're on the wong page. BYE !

  • @Tabstarbelle are you daft? this song might be WRITTEN by Gordon Lightfoots, but it's being SING by EDWARD FITZSIMMONS. I was only commenting on the singer's voice.

  • It's a song that you don't want to end...

  • very cool....

  • Since my father introduced me to this song I have loved it. The message will always "ring clear" to me.

  • Edmund Fitzpatrick has such a lovely voice.

  • @foilseal WHO IS EDMUND FITZPATRICK and why are you commenting on a page regarding Gordon Lightfoot? DUH?

  • @Tabstarbelle he's the singer...DUHH!!!

  • RE: The FITZ (Edmund Fiztgerald). Let us remember the 29 crewmembers this NOVEMBER 10TH!!! 29 SOULS...lost....because ? Fitz was the largest ship on the great lakes. A stipulation of the Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Tragic! 15 nautical miles from Whitefish Bay. The ANDERSON (trailing the Fitz to safer waters) reported no response by radio and no detection on radar at 8:32 PM, November 10, 1975. The good ship Fitzgerald & 29 crew were lost.

  • @Tabstarbelle

    huh?

  • I saw Gordon in concert last year. WE ARE FORTUNATE to still have him and his talent with us. LONG LIVE GORDON !! Shame on those who say 'he is wasting away'.

Thank you for sharing. Last year wasn't my first concert, nor will it be my last. I will gladly pay my hard earned dollars to see him in person. THANK YOU for sharing.

  • No one delivers through words and music the true ebb and flow of life like Gordon Lightfoot; he's the best!

  • When you see the ore boats you think about this song, powerful!

  • This is the bomb - really nice.

  • I wish I had a dime (canadian) for every time this legend sang this song..God bless the Gord still gittin it...

  • My favorite song of all time.Hands down.

  • this is from 2008 aye, he still sounds great.

  • We, of the United State Coast Guard did our best ot locate any survivors. What we found were the ghosts of 29 crew members. Gordon, who is a good friend of mine, also did his best recounting the events leading up to this terrible tragedy.

  • What's even more sad is that today is the 34th anniversary of the sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald.

  • Top shelf song, truly one of the all time greats.

  • it never hit me till i visited gitche gumee this past week now this song realy meens something

  • The man is getting up there now. I've been a fan of his when I was a teenager and I'm 55 this year. Hang tuff my friend

  • Me too, I'm 55 now, Gordon inspired me to learn and excel at acoustic guitar in the late 1960s and l970s and now. I can't think of another musician that did that for me, beause Gordon sings from his heart. He is HIS OWN class of songwriting. We OWE HIM, don't we ?

  • no doubt my friend. I travel for a living and whenever in Toronto I try to catch him in his home town a little north doin a local gig like they sometimes do but it never happens . He did tour last year and came close to my hometown but I was on the road myself...Class act Mr Lightfoot now..Cheers!!

  • god love the working man.

  • Wow, makes me want to drink.

  • Stunning composition -- done with such immediacy, detail and compassion.

Folksong writing at its very best. No stretch at all to call this a masterpiece.

PS: thanks also for posting the full lyrics at upper right...

  • My father died....in Detroit....the same week the EFG sunk. This will always be a reminder of him..and I will always remember him when I hear it. When this song came out....I held it as a tribute to him as well.

  • nice post. I remember as a teen ager I guess taking my dad to a Gordon Lightfoot gig. Him and I always liked the man From Toronto.

  • I feel the same about 'Home from the Forest'. When my father died - peacefully thank God - in 1976, I played 'Home' a lot - and thought of him, finally finding rest after years of 'demons' from his war service..........

  • Very Haunting ^_-

  • Haunting.......
