I've been playing tournaments since I was 10 years old. It took me years before I could finally crack the 2000 uscf point. Know your openings and tactics and those are the most important things imho. It's amazing how some of the top player's games seem so simple at times. People say to be good at chess you have to look moves ahead, but more often than not, players at that caliber don't look that deep- they just know WHEN to...

White queen is forced to take the black rook and the Black queen can then take the white pawn and bishop.
