Whatever you do dont get your IP address off myip.com, go into command prompt and type ipconfig to get your IP adress.

You can't setup a server on a domain. All a domain does is rename an address.

You can host a ventrilo server then setup and if you own a domain, you can setup a record so people can use that domain to connect to your server. But the server still has to be hosted on your computer or a dedicated server. If you want me to show you how to setup a record ask.

@xMistsx OK I'm a jerk admittedly. I have my own servers that are SEO C Class servers with their own IP address. I have 10 of these and pay about $67 a month. 3 of the servers are just sitting idle. I thought...why not set up Ventrilo on one of these. But there isn't anything online telling how to do this. Seems to me that Windows would have to be setup on one of these servers. Am I correct?

Correct. Windows or Linux could be used to host the server. Because the TeamSpeak 2 servers only support those two.

And as much as I understand, I don't think that would be possible on an SEO Server?

Well SEO Hosting is just the name of Host Gators premium hosting. It's just separate Class C IP's and I have 10 of these. So I think I would have to ask Host Gator to setup Windows on one of them? Hmm..how to access remotely? There's gotta be a way these guys are doing this. I'm talking about the Ventrilo hosting services you see online.

But don't the SEO Servers by Host Gator already have Linux on them? I understand what you are talking about, but for that you would need to rent a dedicated server. The SEO Servers are used only for websites, I don't think they would let you host a server off one of them.

@Ziah691 If you own some Linux servers setting up ventrilo on them is even easier. You can acess them remotely via SSH (secure shell) and then just download the server and start it as a daemon process.

ok look guys the way to fix that is go to EDIT INI thing and then copy that whole thing and go to a new note pad. Paste that on that new notepad and press save as then save it as vent.srv and then save it to desktop then go to my computer Localdisk(c)/program files/ventsrv/then save it in there

it's okay. i forgot to repost that i restarted it and it worked. thanks loads! I am now the server admin and have created a channel. now i've just gotta test whether people can connect to it. do you have to be in generally in the same area for it to work? or does it across international waters too?

Means you didn't setup your server properly. That or you didn't put the port and ip in correctly. Try logging in with 127.0.0.1
