  • is fatso the dead one or does he just stink?

  • At the 2:00 mark, "Ebert: You know big guy...I love you."

I just love Siskel's reaction. Sure it's schtick for a talk show appearance in front of a studio audience, but look at his face. He doesn't laugh it off, he doesn't respond, he doesn't play to the audience. He just looks right back at Ebert with a soft smile. Like he could detect a little sincerity somewhere in there. It's such a funny and bittersweet note to end such a touching tribute on.

  • Oh, I'm ready for my close up Mr. DeMille!

  • as bad as ebert looks, his wife looks like cedric the entertainer

  • Would you buy a used car from this man/

  • I wonder if Gene would've continued the show if Roger was the one who died.

  • Evan1975, I hear ya. I'd thrown John Ritter in that mix as well....Rip Gene Siskel....

  • What made that show work was those two guys. None of the replacements were even 1/100th as good as Gene (or Roger).

Gene's death was one of the very few celebrity deaths that actually saddened me. (Phil Hartman's is the only other one I can think of offhand.)

  • this is such a heartbreaking video man. I cant watch it.

  • What do you know for sure? Very significant question for everything in this world. Siskel was a very smart man! R.I.P Gene Siskel!!!

  • Now it's all gone. At the Movies has been terminated completely.. I liked Phillips and Scott too!

  • Gene Siskel was a good and honest man. Very sad he he gone..

  • I like ebert more than siskel

  • I read the same article in Esquire. Say what you want about Howard Stern but when he found that Siskel passed away he was very upset. There are some people in this world that have a lot of heart and when they leave it hurts.

  • This is one of the best tributes I've seen to anyone. Roger Ebert did a fantastic job, resisting makish sentimentality and avoiding meaningless cliches. Kudos to Mr. Ebert for doing such a wonderful job.

  • This still makes me so sad. I would come in from playing outside as a kid to watch "Siskel & Ebert". After Gene died, I had no reliable movie critic source (I love Roger but our tastes aren't similar enough). I finally found the Onion's A.V. Club but wish Gene were still around doing his thing.

  • Best of the three

  • God Bless you, Gene...you'll be in our movie-loving hearts forever..

  • Thank you so much for uploading this.

    Rest in peace, Mr. Siskel

  • I couldn't help it, but I broke down in tears at the very end when Roger turned to Gene and said to him, "You know what BIG GUY.....I love ya..."

  • Remembering you, Gene, on the eve of this year's Academy Awards.

Thank you for posting, hoklik2. I didn't get to see this when it originally aired and it was great to watch.

  • @americanjedi77 Well said man! Well said!!

  • Does anyone know were i can watch the full show of when Evert tells Siskel that he loves him?

  • playing as time goes by at the end of this is just perfect. RIP Siskel, you'll always be remembered.

  • RIP

  • Thank you for posting. I just read Esquire's interview with Ebert, and there's a part in the interview where he gets extremely upset that videos of his tribute were taking down on his blog due to violation. That made me want to go find it, and I'm glad it's still up.

  • Yes, I also read that amazing article. It was very moving.

The way he remembers Siskel is amazing!

  • Thanks so much for posting this. I just read Roger Ebert's tribute to Gene Siskel from last year and really wanted to see this show.

  • I watched them as a teen movie lover from back in the 70's. They made the perfect team. The chemistry, the integrity & the intelligence that they had meant as a duo they could accurately inform the audience watching what to see and avoid. I don't think there will ever be another pair of critics to match them. They were as a team, the Gold Standard. This was a tribute that only Ebert could give. RIP Gene....I like to think that you are in the balcony now watching every great film ever made.

  • I want Siskel back...I want Ebert back, too! Their shows were always interesting and informative and their interaction was priceless! ***** Thanks for the memories!

  • wow, wish we had critics like this in england. Instead we get Jonathan bloody Ross

  • Well yes but come on - Kermode's incredible!

  • @PurushaDesa yeh he's very good, very funny with Simon Mayo on the radio. I think he's being wasted by the bbc though. He's on the Culture Show which is pretty good, but its about time he was the host of the bbc's main film show. And maybe th should take a leaf from the americans and have it with two hosts, it's always more interesting to watch that way. Can't wait for Ross to leave, not long now :-)

  • The Mick and Keith or critics!!!!!!!!!

  • I almost broke down when Ebert told his best friend "I love you". Also, him calling Siskel "big guy" showed that they were more than partners; they were brothers.

We still miss you, Gene. RIP.

  • I agree. They were brothers. I once read, "What you love best is your true lineage". They both loved film and in that bond loved eachother. I just watched all three parts of this and Hell yes, I'm a teary-eyed.

  • its the coolest critic on the planet

  • this almost made me cry

  • damn couldnt make it to 2000, aaaggh that sucks. I wish he was still around

  • It's nice they dropped the two has-Bens (hehe) but it still will never be the same. Not just S&E, but the whole landscape of vloggers and message boards breaking down films X 100 these days. It's overload.

  • lest we forget

  • Amazing. I was saddened to see the show end after Roeper left. Those new guys were terrible.

  • You have reasons to smile. The Bens have been replaced by A.O Scott and Michael Phillips.

  • KNOCK ON WOOD!

    TAP - TAP - TAP!

  • R.I.P. gene Siskel.

    we'll miss you.

  • wow i think it's so sad that he died i really liked siskel

  • damn, now I only have that stupid Armond White to listen too.

  • The new "At the Movies" with Ben Lyons is hardly honoring Siskel's memory.

  • i could never do what Roger just did.

    i'd break down.

  • I'm surprised he didn't.

  • @septip123 he probably did.but did many takes.

  • bring a cam-corder.

  • thumbs up

  • WTF does that have to do with anything?

  • But distasteful to do it on a video paying tribute to said "idiot liberal's" dear friend and colleague.

It is also always good to call out the conservative blowhards.

  • Thanks for posting this. This was a very sweet tribute.

  • Beautiful

  • thank you

    thank you

    thank you

  • I must admit, I did not start watching this show until Roeper joined; he was good but he had BIG shoes to fill. Gene Siskel was one of those individuals who was part of the beginning of a genre and to lose him is a huge blow. Few people can be very dedicated to their work and still make themselves knowledgeable on other things. The impact he has had is tremendous; if it could only be effective in todays blogosphere. 5 stars of the tribute, Gene and thumbs up

  • That was wonderful! Thanks for posting this!

    JB

  • Makes me so sad....I really liked watching his reviews....it's like losing a friend.

  • Thanks for your comment. Gene Siskel was truly one of a kind.
