my brother is a music composition major with a minor in recording technology at duquene university, and when our band was gonna record he rattled off about 20000 dollars worth of mics and then i bought these mics, he said he was really impressed.. so uh, yeah good mics
Excellent drumming. I´m a drummer myself so I appreciate your style and feel. I´ve got two questions for you however: How do these mic´s sound at a live gig? Do they get the job done ? They´re incredibly cheap, which is good, but you don´t know what to expect for that price... I play in a cover band 2-4 times a week, mainly rock music, so I really need a mic set that´s cheap but durable and with an ok sound... So, what´s your opinion?
@djevlhelvete These are actually designed for live gigs. They are extremely convenient since they are compact and clip straight on to the rims of the snare and toms so you only need stands for overheads and the kick. They work like regular dynamic mics. They definitely get the job done at an affordable price. I recommend them.
@shaneisarobot Good sounds man.I have the same mics, theyre really cool for 100 bucks.Only thing that stood out for me was the hi-hat.Had a very aggressive sound compared to the rest of the set.Maybe it was the mic.If theres one thing ive learned, its to get good cymbals. They last forever, and every engineer and sound guy along the way will thank you.You can pick up a new beat for 100 bucks used on ebay pretty much daily.Would clean that right up,and bring it all together.Rock on man!!
These sound great, man. In your description you say that you have your tom mic mounted under the snare. How is the sound quality of the snare without the tom mic under it? Your setup sounds awesome, but I use three toms, so I would need my third tom mic.
@ItalianAvalanche The sound quality is decent with the tom mic on the bottom. If you are doing a studio recording you definitely need to mic the bottom of the snare, or else it will sound like a high pitched tom. Most people use shure sm57's for the top and bottom snare since it is a directional mic and there will be less bleeding through of the other drums. The better the equipment, the easier it is to mix, the cheaper the equipment, the harder it is. Get good equipment or mixing skills.
Thanks! I am prob going to be buying these in the next week! Do you recommend any cables? I have a very low budget at the time and need to get recording on my bands EP.
Very sweet chops, and very expressive performance!
