It is real fur, made of raccoon. A classmate of mine has exactly the same coat as Jensen.
Besides that, I've seen a lot of pictures of them wearing fur, recently I saw a picture of Jensen wearing a hat made of rabbit skin, that's the reason why I stopped supporting & being a fan of them.

@jellytots2008 in the episode they weren't in the snow. I guess they jsut needed the house which was there. it's season 1 "Bloodlust" where they looking for the colt at elkin's house.
