thanks for this. fantastic harmony and mean fiddle playing! can anyone please find ''tennessee central #9'' by jim and jesse? only heard it once but it stuck in my memory. by the way, does anybody else get the feeling they were born too late? thank goodness for you tube!
question if ira louvin wrote this why is it not on a louvin brothers record anywhere ive looked throughly everywhere.jim and jesse recorded the tune as did a few others but who actually wrote it? The tune is listed in bluegrass lyrics but under author it says na which usually indicates the tune is very old and traditional hmmmm a mystery anyone shed any light on this?? thx
Here's what i know. The Louvin Brothers box set has a list of songs written, but not recorded by the brothers.A third writer Irene Frank is named. Some time ago a British t.v. documentary showed Charlie singing this song, and hementions that it was one of the last songs written by Ira.
ok thx for the info ira may have written this fine tune near the end of his life, not sure who irene frank is but i heard ira was giving writing credits to one of his wives near the end who knows why maybe as a hedge against the tax man maybe just to throw some money her way in the event of his demise or something anyone happen to know the name of his last wife? the one who died in the final tragic car crash?wonder if the louvins ever did this fine song live? would really love to hear that!
Ira and Charlie put several songs in their wives names to get around publishing contracts;Anne Young was wife number five who died in the car crash. On the Louvins last album recorded after they split up,co-write credits go to Anne and not Charlie. She can be heard singing, uncredited,on Ira's only solo album. We are both agreed that this is a really excellent song, given a wonderful rendition here.I never realised what a class act Jim and Jesse are until i started watching these clips.
im trying really hard to learn that crosspicking thing on mandolin that jesse does there, its really hard to make it sound so smooth! thanks for posting this video!
I got to meet these guys when I performed with Charlie Louvin on the Opry several years ago. They were right up there with the Louvins as far as I'm concerned.
