@boud92si a lot of celebs made an appearance on that show. Even during events like the Toronto Film Festival....Tia Carrere, Harrison Ford, Prime Minister Cretien to name a few.
Look at the page you're viewing. Social media like Youtube is the reason why they did away with Speaker's Corner. It's a shame. I knew a guy I went to school with who I saw on there once talking about all the litter in Downtown Toronto.
@mirandaugh because they're owned by CTV Globe media "corporation". Basically, they don't want real people to have a real outlet to express concerns on REAL issues. They want to control the news that gets thrown out there. Look at how shallow CP24 has become
of course; yes he did, but being with Yoko did not stop him, if anything it made his music more centered around his experiences with love and family a little more intensely; maybe cos he'd found his soulmate; his first wife, sadly suffered a broken heart likley...as do many pple when they marry and then divorce; but maybe Yoko is his soulmate ; it certainly did not hurt his music
aww! i went looking for speakers corner, it's a mystery, but i don't think it's gone forever, i think it might be on hiatus, because it's not at city on queen, and it's not in the jays shop at rogers centre anymore, it might be going somewhere else
is it because the people are using the internet to broadcast themselves, why can't they do something Net-powered - which might attract a greater response.
The other event that made the BNL's famous was the New Years Eve concert at Toronto City Hall. When the then mayor found out they were playing, she felt that their name is inappropriate and cancelled them... much hoopla after that!
On the documentary "The Barenaked Truth", there's a part where Steve says "We're Barenaked Ladies, and we're too cheap to make our own video." But this short clip is all I've been able to find online.
this is when TORONTO was the best city in the world!!!!

mirandaugh 2 years ago 12
They did away with speaker's corner because of the emergence of media (ie. YouTube, and possibly Myspace for musicians)

@mirandaugh Did you ever go in one of those booths? I'd say the hobo stink has something to do with why this show isn't around.
