  • this is when TORONTO was the best city in the world!!!!

  • I remember seeing this 20 years ago, but completely forgot about it.

Man it's amazing how far they've gone since speakers corner eh? I think I saw them perform on MuchMusic a few months later too!

    Oh memories :)

  • @janX9

OH YEAH.MEMORIES INDEED.SOMETHING THEY WOULD JUST SHOW NUDITY TOO.

  • youtube bought out speakers corner

  • Ahhhh Speaker's Corner....Canada's youtube before the existence of youtube.

  • @lilPopper lol your right, It was pretty much before the damn internet.

  • @boud92si a lot of celebs made an appearance on that show. Even during events like the Toronto Film Festival....Tia Carrere, Harrison Ford, Prime Minister Cretien to name a few.

  • @boud92si

    YEP.

  • @lilPopper

    NO SHIT

  • toronttttttttttttooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

  • I think I have just seen a toy--a car commercial on the T.V. with this song in the background. Win?

  • They were so happppy back then. <3

  • Devil's advocates should continue on youtube, as seeing as speaker's corner croaked -.-

  • *sigh* i miss speaker's corner....anyone know why they did away with it?

  • They did away with speaker's corner because of the emergence of media (ie. YouTube, and possibly Myspace for musicians)

  • Look at the page you're viewing. Social media like Youtube is the reason why they did away with Speaker's Corner. It's a shame. I knew a guy I went to school with who I saw on there once talking about all the litter in Downtown Toronto.

  • @mirandaugh Youtube! They have said that ratings always sucked too.

  • @mirandaugh because they're owned by CTV Globe media "corporation". Basically, they don't want real people to have a real outlet to express concerns on REAL issues. They want to control the news that gets thrown out there. Look at how shallow CP24 has become

  • @mirandaugh Did you ever go in one of those booths? I'd say the hobo stink has something to do with why this show isn't around.

  • @mirandaugh Its called You Tube....

  • I loved Speaker's Corner.

And the Devil's Advocates. Can anyone find clips on them?

  • and yet... Speaker's Corner is no more... T_T

  • I know when I'm saying this, I may be stepping on pins and needles...

  • DONT BLAME IT ON YOKEY!

  • LOVE BNL 4EVER

  • always wanted to see this. Thanx.

  • where would John have been without Yoko? There'd be no jealous guy, woman or all the other amazing love songs he wrote !!!!

  • Didn't he wrote amazing songs before meting her?

  • of course; yes he did, but being with Yoko did not stop him, if anything it made his music more centered around his experiences with love and family a little more intensely; maybe cos he'd found his soulmate; his first wife, sadly suffered a broken heart likley...as do many pple when they marry and then divorce; but maybe Yoko is his soulmate ; it certainly did not hurt his music

  • MM...You're missing the point of the song

  • LOVE this clip; thanks for sharing it!!

  • Oh man. Memories. :)

  • aww! i went looking for speakers corner, it's a mystery, but i don't think it's gone forever, i think it might be on hiatus, because it's not at city on queen, and it's not in the jays shop at rogers centre anymore, it might be going somewhere else

  • is it because the people are using the internet to broadcast themselves, why can't they do something Net-powered - which might attract a greater response.

  • and now Speakers Corner is no more :(

  • ahaha indeed

  • The other event that made the BNL's famous was the New Years Eve concert at Toronto City Hall. When the then mayor found out they were playing, she felt that their name is inappropriate and cancelled them... much hoopla after that!

  • Which was the thing that got them known:

"Who is this band too controversial to play City Hall?"

  • Hahahaa

  • Does anyone have the whole video?

  • that is the whole video

  • On the documentary "The Barenaked Truth", there's a part where Steve says "We're Barenaked Ladies, and we're too cheap to make our own video." But this short clip is all I've been able to find online.

  • these guys are great.

  • I still remember that! So awesome. :D

  • LOVE BNL FOR EVER

  • It's amazing that this is part of the reason they got famous. Good ole' speakers corner.
