@minotmadman Yeah - still old - and the oldest one is 12 yrs older than me LOL, and just trying to stay clean, "Old Yokes" :o). I was stationed at Griffiss with the BUFF's from 83-84 (416 SPS) - Quick Start cartridges always got to me. Cold but not nearly as cold as Minot - I get the chills just thinking of that.
"Nice shot (landing), dude?" "Eh, it was alright..." How humble...;-) I expected the panels to be black. Guess this one's seen so much work it's faded...
@alanbstard4 Why do think they call them B-52's? The Stratofortress took its maiden flight in April 1952. The bomber production was between 1953-1962 with over 744 aircraft being built.
I was B-52 avionics bomb/nav/radar/computer technician from '76-'80 during the cold war; it's an old bird, but it still can complete it's mission.
Its primary purpose is deterrence. It helped prevent WWIII by being ready to deliver ordinance any time and any where on the earth's surface. It cannot carry cargo. The TV screens were not installed in the original airplanes in the '60's. The airplane has been updated regularly with the most current technology. I know cuz I used to fly them between 1970 and 1975.
I was a B52G crew chief in 1987. I flew in this seat.... this was my view for many hours on end... if I was lucky enough to not be riding the honey bucket for 10-12 hours!! Thanks for posting this video, brings back memories... I can smell the inside of the aircraft in my mind while watching this. I used to sit in the pilot seat for hours fueling it and the rest of many nights inspecting it until the flight crew arrived in the bus for my briefing.... at 18 years old, I felt on top of the world
I went into a B52 cockpit as a a child at RAF Upper Heyford in 1981 on a school trip to the base. Never forget it, awesome aircraft! We also saw the supposedly secret underground hospital too!
@winterloggan Very loud. 95 to 100dBA on average. Ear plugs and ear muffs are strongly recommended for the entire flight. I am lucky I still have my hearing after 3000 flying hours in various models. MrSafetyToo..
The constant yoke movements are teh pilots making corrections before they are needed. The B-52 uses a spoiler system that has some delay to it do the the large size of the wing. Its not wasy to fly a buff!
@fordroad It would be done by an official documentary crew, nothing is classified in this (nothing obvious anyway), so they'd just film it and release it.
This is so fantastic 1 Ihave the vid in narrow aspect , I want to know if it's me or everyone else also . is it possible to convert the source in 16/9 ?
@express49 it's everyone else, this video is has been recorded in 480p with the dimensions of 640x480. Yes it is possible to convert this video to 16/9 but the video will be extremely blurry and very. very wide looking.
@wowdude999 Its pretty fun since we're so close to each other and we're less than 200 miles apart and everyone pretty much hangs out at the mall or the beach other than that, its pretty boring unless you play video games
@eloymanalooooo i so miss watching the b52s on short final. i use to live in south fin when it was still up. that thing would litterally shake up the entire house.
@msk7046: why so much yolk movement on such a seemingly nice weather day?
JM: The B-52 is OLD technology. It uses steel control cables that have to reach out ALL the way out to the end of that long wing. There is naturally some slop in the rigging. Oh, I'm sure it is rigged properly, but those long wings and fuselage make for some play in the controls. You should see them during in-flight refueling...or in the low-level route bomb run. Their arms get tired. No kidding.
landing at utapao was better, the good old days with b52d 657

@S9297AircraftReviews yes but if it is an old model than it probley would be for the best.
P.S. they have a bunk but it is right next to the skin and will suck the heat out of you body. so they always sleep on the floor
