  • That is a neat little cabin.. great vid.

  • I think I love Tomar!!!

  • You need about 2 dozen tumble bugs to process the poop. LOL

  • cow dung is an extremely versatile and beneficial substance.

  • Ya' had me until the manure ... ಠ_ಠ

  • your breast look great!

  • My Mix:

5 Gallons of Sand (1 bucket)

2 1/2 Gallons of stirred clay (1/2 a bucket) -Clay should be as thick as tomato paste.-

1 Gallon of fresh cow manure

1 Gallon of Wheat paste. -Wheat paste should be as thick as vegetable oil-

1/2 a gallon of fresh chopped Horse manure. -Don't just toss chucks in-

1/4 a gallon of fluffed cattail.

1/4 a gallon of chopped straw.

Remember, you can make up your own. Just try out at least 8 mixes before you choose. I've seen many recipes that work.

    EEEWWWWWwwwwwWWWWWWwwwwwWWWWW!

  • I heard Manure also adds anti-insect properties to the plasters/cob/adobe. Is that so with this mix, or do you need to use a lot more?

  • Shithouse eh?

  • All i see is PLASTIC PLASTIC PLASTIC everywhere,

what would u do without the plastic pails eh?

  • @resinator1

2 large wheelbarrows, a mortar hoe, and a shovel is your answer.

  • @resinator1 Most, if not all of the buckets I see in the vid are used. Those buckets would have been on their way to the landfill. Second, third, fourth or more uses make a more sustainable practice. Sans buckets, I'm sure other salvage items would do as well. Point is, since the plastic is going to be manufactured, why not do our best to responsibly use it? I use plastic because it holds water. When the bucket no longer holds water, I shred it and use it to strengthen cob.

  • @Cloudpiler heh no worries, i was just being an ass, its all good, i understand

Recycling is where its at, i do it till it falls apart, like i said, i was just being an ASS lol

u guys rock, if all hell broke loose, u would be the last ones standing, u dont DEPEND on crap like the city folks

    Cheers

  • I just tried this. My hands smell like cow shit. I can't get the smell out. 8^(

  • thank you!

  • something I have been wondering is, can i used the cut grass from my lawn in place of the straw?

  • can u plz write the ingrediant here..

  • I'd sleep with the dog white women just because she showed me how to make Earth-n-plaster... No I wouldn't.

White man is the Devil. Game over.

  • Hi Tamar! I reviewed the video so many times but cannot catch the 4th ingredient(which is similar properties with manure) which goes after the clay .please write the name of this ingredient.

    Video is Super!!!!!

  • @cavahircholakoglu that ingredient is wheat paste, which is made from unbleached flour and water boiled.

  • Hi Tamar! I reviewed the video so many times but cannot catch the 4th ingredient(which is similar properties with manure) which goes after the clay .please write the name of this ingredient.

    Video is Super!!!!

  • Thank you.

  • Great lesson on how to make earthen plaster. I plastered my Eco Straw House with lime cement and so far so good (4 years on). However, I brought in Camel's Back Construction to do this, so it was not done by hand mixing. Either way, I intend to put up a couple of bunkies and deffinately want to do the earthen plaster so thanks so much for making this video!

  • i was uo for this until the shit part eeeewwww...

  • GREAT TUTORIAL!!

She really did a good job with this. Earthen plaster is the way to go, but finish the exterior with hydraulic lime, and finish the interior with gypsum. -For aesthetic purposes- The rustic look of earthen plaster is a turn off for me.

    But to each his/her own.

  • peace,my friends

  • The rest of the materials make sense, but I question the wisdom of putting manure on your walls, in hygienic terms.

  • dancaing rabbit, cool. I have a friend, stephen lester, who internered here. what a small world.

  • How do you locate clay? And where do you buy your sand? please respond im going to build one one these cabin/hut places outside of my house :D (We have like a half or a ful acre i cant remember)

  • @Twilight101cp sand you can get from stream beds or buy it from a lanscaping supply yard, Clay is readily found near streams and lakes

  • smelly hippie's

  • Hi Tamar

Do you think I could use this same plaster mix for an unfired clay brick house.

I'm busy restoring an old house, removing the plaster. I would like to use a plaster that will allow the bricks to breath, but also have it strong and durable.

Thanks for the video, it really helps to see how it's done. :) cow poo that I don't mind LOL

  • I bet it feels good squishin' between your toes!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Tamar, will you marry me? :)

  • question question is there a substitute for the animel poooo

  • Are there any other projects that use animal dung? I'm trying to build a greenhouse with E. Coli and other harmful pathogens as the theme. Maybe poo-based growbeds. Crap pottery. Flaming turd candles etc.

  • @bryuko Are you going to burn buffalo chips too?

  • use a trowel you bellends

  • Where would u go to live in a place like this cuz I'm all 4 it

  • hell no . i aint puttin no freaking manure on my shit.

  • @SputnikMedia Lol,no manure on my shit, lol. Alternatively you can chop straw very small. Which is pretty much what the cow would have done for you. also animal hair or chopped rope fibers will do.

  • @Akeilan what about pine needles?

  • @MrEhud77 Too much acid in the pine needles that will deteriorate your mixture. Use hay, or straw instead

  • this would be a very ecofriendly house and a ver in- expensive house, since really there isn't any electricity to worry about paying, no mortgage, no nothing like that!! I WANNA LIVE IN 1!!!!

  • That plaster tastes funny :-(

  • thanks!!

  • Looks like a great place & way to live!

  • when i grow up, i want to own one, with a building in the center of the village where there are computers (i can't live w/out them!!!)

  • damn tamar are you single

  • What was the white thing she purred in? Are the walls in straw bale house a little soft or is like sheet rock type of hardness. If I punch the wall will it crack? Can you mount the shelf into a straw or you make them like you would make it in the cob house?

  • Answer1: That was wheat paste. You can make it by mixing flour and water over heat, then after it thickens, mix in more water off heat. Answer2: Probably pretty hard. You don't want a mushy house.Answer3: Maybe, maybe not. Answer4: Umm.... not sure. You could probably make it come out from deep in the straw, then cover the inner walls w adobe, and then cover the shelf with it too. ;)

  • Sorry I went silly on you there. Serious question- Would a cement mixer speed things up? I'm guessing its too gooey?

  • To those who are grossed out by the cow poo... it's natural and only "stinks bad" when it's very fresh. Even if it stinks when making the plaster, after a few days to a week there will be NO smell. If you are grossed out by cow poo, you don't know much about many things in life. Life is full of "gross things" lol

  • agreed!!! hear hear!! :D

  • yup. Life is full of "little surprises" here and there ^.^

  • oh no not poo!!

    what? Why? Why Poo?

Why not mud? Why on earth would you want a smelly house?

  • It wont be smelly. You could probably use mud if ur grossed out by poo.

  • dang ! thats alot of work !

  • do you really need the cow poo?..what about cob?...poo sticks!

  • Didn't the Pharaoh proclaim,

"Let them make bricks without straw!"

    I don't think he said,

"Let them make bricks without cow poopie!"

(Otherwise there'd be dancing in the streets!)

  • not a bad home idea for going green but i plan on a log home. not sure what to use for a roof though. i don't want to dig in the earth at all no clay no displacing sand from it's natural environment at all. i believe that were suppost to use plants and animals only not tear into the earth in anyway shape or form

  • Thanks Tamar! You really made this easier to understand than the books I have.

  • so is this the same as cob?...if not its pretty close, although i dont remember poo in the mix of cob

  • elephant dung is a natural pest repellent..so i have heard.. and a great building tool too.

  • i heard it smells like shit

  • Well it depends if it is anaerobic shit or aerobic shit, one smells really shitty and the other smells like earth.

Guess which one this one smell like!

  • you smell like shit!

  • Oh! Ain't that sweet, he actually thinks he can smell me.

Well! I'm sorry to break it for ya boy! But that thing in front of you is called a microphone and you can't smell through it, only talk. And if you smell shit on it, it ain't mine, so somebody has been naughty, wink wink!

    P.S.

    You don't need to explain

  • you might want to stick to one tense when youre speaking....because it sounds retarded when youre talking to me and someone else at the same time

  • @themachinegunn

Well it was hard work to sink to your level, but modesty apart I think I did pretty well, at least I was having a laugh.

  • griever.

  • Hmm isn't this the same stuff Africans were being criticized for building...? I have seen pueblos and other native natural built homes last for centuries.. people have made museum tours based on these long lasting structures.. Now the old cultural ways are new again.. lol!

  • 1 in a wheelbarry you can MOVE the mix easily

2 it contains the material well

3 its easier and mixed better

  • dear lil gal. having mixed many a substance on job sites,, why not mix in wheelbarrow? so much easier to mix materials with garden hoe.

  • Thank you very much, very informative. By the way, your hot and not afraid to get your hands dirty. Way cool!

  • Comment removed

  • its freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  • Actually no it is not free. Any time you have to work for something you are paying for it. And if you are unable to (do the work yourself) and you have to pay someone else... you get the point. Time really is money; that's not a lie.

  • if you listen again to the beginning of her little explanation, she says that the old plaster had been a lime plaster, hence it's wearing out so fast. Earthen stuff usually last a good long time.

  • @imskin Earthen plaster doesn't last a long time, It'd just very easy to repair and extreemly economical... I have a little experiance with the stuff being that I'm from New Mexico.

  • that's why you raise a flock of kids.

  • it's about values and I think you will not understand cause u never experience such a thing . peace upon you

  • what kind of a sad life are you living at 90 years old if you can't even do a little work? Is it really worth living anymore at that point?

  • any day i awake is a good day.

  • I read somewhere that glutinous rice paste was mixed with lime for the mortar of the great china wall, and the reason for its durability is the rice paste. Wonder if it would help make the plaster more durable.

  • The manure mixes with plaster and the smell is minimal at time of mixing. Once dry it nolonger smells.

  • One note about adding more ingredients after they've been mixed: just like in cooking, order is important. If you're going to add some more clay, make it a slurry with water first. If you add dry clay you can end up with lumps.

I'm very interested in any published material that describes the properties of the manure and wheat paste additives. Saying it's 'more durable' is good, but I've had a very difficult time finding anything other than anecdotal evidence.

  • I still say lime is better, just got to make sure the straw bails are flat and even use some chicken wire to hold it down.

  • Thanks so much Tamara and Dancing Rabbit TV!

  • That was an excellent video! Very informative. Thank you.

  • look how the poop flops lol

  • xx lol

  • good posting, great to watch, good info, thank you

  • fabulous!

  • when mixing, how do you know when youv dung?

  • Did you mean to be punny too? ...cause Tamar did show us how to test for ready.

  • ah now you stepped in bullshit, dont mess wid my burrito

  • I've stepped in manure in my day : ) are you punning? ...'cause your meaning eludes my understanding.

  • I've heard that in Africa the indigenous builders use cow milk as an additive.

  • hey, cmon guys, that was a little bit funny!

  • extremely punny : )

  • I thought your comment was rather clever! I ♥ punning : )
