  • GATSBY'S REAL NAME IS "JAMES GATZ" NOT "JASON GATZ"!

  • we watched this in english and we wanted to rip the projector out, thanks

  • THIS IS BETTER AND MORE HELPFUL THAN SPARKNOTES, THANKS!

  • you fucked up on this video

  • What's the name of the first song used?

  • Alright. I'm a sophmore and we just did a unit on this novel. This retelling was really good, however, there was a couple points that I found to be incorrect. It was simply a trip into the city at Daisy's request for the hotel part. Also a couple other points but I can't seem to remember. Splendid summary though. Loved it. :)

  • Hey whats the name of the second song used? at 1.54?

  • You had me so confused the entire time between Gatsby and Nick. They all looked the same!

  • I have an english ap test on this book that i did not want to read. Lol I'm using this video to see what it was about lol

  • i cant believe some comments here.. why read books, this shit is boring.. i pitty you people. the great gatsby is one of the best novels ever

  • I read this as a junior and am glad it's over x.x it was boring...I'm now a senior. :D

  • i was bored just by watching this, no offense. I wasn't referring to your video, i was referring to the story. i can't wait to read this in my school now -__-

  • something about this was charming, idk. if i were an english student id eat this shit up lol but i already read it so o well

  • this makes the book so much clearer. thank you @harveystewart!

  • IIII CAN GIVE YOU GATSBYYYY

  • too much gore

  • THIS IS GREAT

  • ty, why read books?

  • umm... that's not very accurate...

  • sick helped me understand the book a bit better

  • pretty sure its james gatz. not jason?

  • fuck english class. i hate having to do a fucking english project on this bitch ( f scott fitzgerald). if anyone can tell me where to get info on him please tell me. ive never been this pissed in school motherfuckin mrs. dunn and sweeney (english class)

  • 0:47 looks like he is getting rape by many people =)

  • TEACH ME YOUR WAYS MASTER!

  • love this

  • one less book i have to read for lit/comp class OH YEA!

  • James Gatz not Jason

  • real nice summary it helped my right my 300 point language essay, i got a B+ :)

  • Some of plot points were incorrectly summarised, but the animation was quaint and enjoyable, and the music was lovely. Was one of those music clips from Patch Adams?

  • This was actually REALLY helpful

  • this is amazing!!!!

  • Lol this is the new generation of Sparknotes :)

  • what i got from this book is that appearances are deceiving and that social status doesnt mean shit and you cant hide what you really are so theres no point in faking/be youself, etc. and also that women will ruin you in the end and you cant live with them and cant live without them and you gotta know when to move on, and dont hang around with the wrong crowds. also jealousy is a bitch. include all those points in your book report and you will get an A+.

  • thank you!

  • well i liked it

  • i enjoyed the wicked music

  • Thank you so much for this! Helped me a lot with my project for school!

  • This is HORRIBLE.

  • @PedoLouie This is ALLCAPS.

  • @harveystewart Am I supposed to me impressed by this?

  • @PedoLouie Am I supposed to want to impress a guy named PedoLouie?

  • @harveystewart I thought this was a pretty good summary of the Great Gatsby, and I must agree with you, I would show no attention to someone going by the name of "PedoLouie".

  • @harveystewart hahahaha PedoLouie lookin ass

  • @harveystewart haha owned

  • @harveystewart Only if you are under the age of 15 ;)

    FK

  • i think i might pass my AS english lit exam now - its about the GG

  • wow i love this :) made my day, well done xD

  • Jordan never told Nick that Gatsby was poor, he found that out later. She just told him that he used to date Daisy

  • lol a far away land .....long islands only like a 4 hour drive from my house lol

  • This was for year 12 English? Seems kinda basic and non-related to English (animation?)

  • Evan Ferguson, you are a genius!

  • im doin the great gatsby in english lit at the moment for my a-levels and I didn realli understand the narrative of the story that well, but now i do thanks to this......xxxx

  • mother creation Love Loves you!

  • I thought this was awesome. The choice of music for each part of the story was inspired and reminded me of why I like the great Gatsby.

  • LOVE THE SILENT HILL MUSIC!!! :DD

  • i love your paint skills this video is awesome!!!!! :)

  • lol quite a unique and creative way to retelling it... well I have no idea why people are criticizing your paint skills because isn't the content more important....

anyways, I found it quite interesting, great job :)

  • OK i get your wanted to do something different but atleast make it look good. You dont know how to use paint which was made very clear with this video. You also lack animation skills. But other than those two things i found it quite interesting.

  • OK i get your wanted to do something different but atleast make it look good. You dont know how to use keyboards which was made very clear with this comment. You also lack sentence-coherence skills. But other than those two things i found it quite interesting.

  • @harveystewart Ok I get you're trying to defend your movie but it's called constructive criticism. Also using bad grammar / spelling as a defense means that, not only do you sink to his level, but you also fail. "You dont know how to use keyboards which was made very clear with this comment." is an example of this as not only do you miss the apostrophe in "don't" but you also lack any punctuation to denote tone. I realise I am sinking to your level in this statement but I don't give a shit.

  • @rorysimmonds Look up "Irony" in the dictionary. Then you will understnad why I'm smashing my face to my palm right now.

  • @harveystewart You fool I understand that you where copying him ironically but you could have at least improved upon his grammatical errors that you where so eager to flag.

  • @harveystewart

it's easier to smash your palm to your face than to smash your face to your palm.

  • I didn't understand anything about the end of the story...

  • His name is James Gatz not Jason Gatz but not bad I guess. childish, but meh..it was fine. The wording was all I cared about so 4 out of 5.

  • What songs did you use for this? Especially the ones at 2:35-2:50 and 2:54-4:30???!!!

  • this is awesome! The music suits it perfectly

  • 12th grade English project you say...

I wish I could have been there to see the class's reaction

  • lol.. theres the song of "catch me if you can"

  • gatsby dnt run into nick

he invited nick to his party

  • excellent my friend

    sad story, nice video

    thanks :)

  • Gatsby was stationed In Louisville which is in Kentucky not Louisiana

    but very well done!

  • Really Weel-done!!

    Excellent!

Nice and sad story. But it talks about the American Dream.

  • What is the first and last song that you used in this movie?

  • something from silent hill 2. I forget what it's actually called, lol

  • Haha. That was good but you missed a few things and some things were a little off but you get the gist of things from it :)

How long did that take to make btw??

  • pretty good. james gatz actually sailed with daniel cody before the war though

  • Funny!

But just to let you know, his name was James Gatsby, not Jason. :D

  • Excellent video! Good work!

  • way to fail at flash, sorry to be a hater. it was kind of funny though.

  • It's not flash. It's paint and movie maker. Way to fail at recognizing flash. How hilariously ironic. Here's trick I use to recognize flash; it would be animated, not a slideshow.

  • that response = win

  • that response to a response= bigger win

  • now we could play THAT game for hours

  • The opening/ending music is totally from Silent Hill 2. And There's Forrest Gump in there too. xDD That was good.

  • Awesome VIDEO!!!!!

  • LOVE IT

  • Love it !

  • BRAVO!!!

  • Good work on the video!

  • good job probably one of the best books i've read.

    were you in ib english?

  • Can someone explain to me why this is such a great story? After watching this I just don't understand what would make it so great. I'm not saying it isn't, there's probably just something that I am not getting.

  • hahahhaa

    i love how they dance!!

    i love this book!!~!~@!!!!

    great clip!!

  • No. Finding random videos on the internet to half-wittedly spew mispelled hate speech to overcompensate for your the fact that you're obviousy a closeted homosexual is for fucks with no life; you fucking dumbass redneck. It's not our fault you're bagging groceries at the 7/11 because you couldn't read in high school. Get some fucking friends.

  • Lmfao, why would you be looking at this video in the first place?

  • Evan, I'm an English teacher and my class is about to read The Great Gatsby. I used your video to preview the book and my students loved it :) Just thought you should know!

  • @GrammarSpecialist well you kinda ruined the book for them

  • Them of Laura by Akira

    the soundtrack from forest gump...nice.

  • Your choice of music really made your retelling better than it should be, take it as a compliment. I really like Akira's song in the beginning. gives it that tragic feeling.

  • honestly im a 11th grader whos readin this now... i know im graduating next year but i dont want to read this book so thank you for dumbing it down for me lol... im not that much of a reader

  • I read this in 7th grade too.

  • 12th grade, I read this book in 7th. Wow ur school is late. U went to public school right?

  • I went to catholic school. I can't imagine reading Fitzgerald when i was twelve. I think the whole novel would have been lost on me.

  • I went to catholic school too. I really enjoyed reading it. Matter a fact it is my favorite. Besides it wasn't that bad, just use context clues.

  • You read it in the 7th grade, holy s***...i didn't read it till grade ten...but i still remember it. its a good book.

  • Yeah. It's a great novel. I love it!

  • I see u used songs a song from the 1974 film and Forrest Gump. Nice touch. I liked this short film. It's a nice little interpertation of the novel. Merci

  • well done

  • I'm definitely a fan.

  • Good Job! I hope you got an A on it..

  • I'm sorry but I'm studying this novel for A level and quite a few of the major details in this animation are different from reality. I really am sorry since I'm not one to complain but I thought I should make it clear that this version is completely true.

Good animation though and great choice in music

  • Many details from the original novel were changed mostly to keep the film short and to adapt it more fully into the visual medium. Also, for shits and giggles. Point being, it's meant to be an 'adaptation'.

  • His original name was James Gatz, not Jason Gatz

  • Not in this version. Don't tell me what my own characters names are.

  • I think he means from the original novel; not your version.

  • Very good! That video tells the story way better and more thourough than mine does!

  • I really like the back ground music, it suits this story well!

  • i just finshe this book didnt rly like it but o well. i liked this video it made me laff and it sumed up everything important and intresting in a matter of 6 mins

  • Just started studying this... Im having a little trouble understanding it a little.. but im sure i'll get there...

Thanks alot to the uploader for the vid, it does help me.

  • MEEEEEHHHHHHH

  • You're opinion sounds very thought out. Please continue to grace the youtube community with your advanced insight.

  • loved this book, we studied it in year 12 as well, hey does anyone know the name of the song???

  • I know them all. At which point in the video does it start?

  • hey thanks 4 the reply, i really liked the song at the beginning, but come to think of it a track list would be great!!! Cheers :)

  • Sure thing:

1 (0:00)Laura's Theme (reprise) from "Silent Hill"

    2 (0:45)Overture from "Chicago"

3 (1:54) Theme from "Catch Me If You Can"

4 (2:24) Dear Old shiz from "Wicked"

5 (2:33) Theme from "Forrest Gump"

6 (4:29) Morning Passsages from "The Hours"

7 (5:15) Do Something from "The Truman Show"

    8 (5:40) Reprise of Laura's Theme again

    That was fun

  • hey thanks 4 that, it's a good vid btw, i've checked out ur other vid's 2, not bad at all, have a great day in canada :)

  • not bad, not bad at all

  • Wow old sport this is fantastic. The music is superb scond to none and the animation is just fantastique! 5 stars im astounded this is the work of a year 12 student just tops.

  • that was really good. i loved the music too

  • nice job

  • get some friends and stop studying every trivial aspect of some random person's school project they did two years ago.

  • that was really, really cool :D

there were some errors [like JASON GATZ vs. JAMES GATZ]

but that was sweet, i don't feel like finishing the book now lol jk

  • SWEET! Now I don't even have to read the book. jk

  • I have been reading The Great Gatsby every year for the last 30 years. This was very entertaining and you've done a good job in summarising the story in a lively manner. It might even encourage some students to read the book. Nice work.

  • that was actually really good. i enjoyed it.

  • Thanks that helped me study for my test tomororw

  • yeah, I think I covered that on the slide at 4:58.

  • This is epic and awesome.

    <3's

  • Pure. Brilliance.

  • there are a few things that arent right but all in all it was good!

  • I'd like to thank you for making the most hilarious version of the Great Gatsby that I've ever seen. Did you even read the book? Congratulations

  • Thank You, very much. Seeing as how it's supposed to be funny, that's nothing short of a compliment. Also, when you cram and entire book into six minutes, you have to leave out some things. Again, I made this a year ago for english class, and I would have forgotten it if it weren't for the people who compliment it nearly every week. Did you read the book?

  • Myrtle watch out for the yellow car! wait it's a blue car that ended myrtle's life? Good job :)

  • XD

I LOVE YOU! You've made my life SOOO much easier!

    THANKS!

Very nice btw, the music is fantastic, suits it perfectly

    ;)

  • this is really nice, kudos. BRAVO, i should show dis to my class, cuz we jus finished reading it

  • wish i wudve seeen this sooner <33 book was great

  • I dunno...some of the information seemed incorrect, and there were several typos, but overall, it was interesting. It's difficult to condense a novel into 6:27, so, kudos

  • really god job dude!!! compliments man!!

  • i thought daisy didnt love gatsby she was just using him to get back at tom, because she was from a different social class that wouldnt accept him

  • did u read the book, or r u retarded.

  • did you read the book? Because based on your mindless ranting, you seem incapable of it. Also, who goes onto random videos on youtube to criticize the accuracy of a great gatsby video someone made like a year ago for english class. Get a fucking life.

  • Hey, when someone makes the effort to make a turgid book like the great gatsby entertaining, you do not call them retarded. great film!

  • Can Anybody tell that what is the music being played from the beginning to 00:40 seconds. Where it is from...Please reply me back if you know the music is from...Thank you.

  • It's from Silent Hill 2, the video game. It's called Laura's Theme and its by Akira Yamaoka.

  • Thanks

  • the Reprise version.

  • nice video bro

  • now i understand, thanks for the video!!!

  • great job!

  • good

  • woah, niiiiiiiice!

whats the music in the beginning and at 3:12? or is it the same one?

  • lol...its the theme from forrest gump

  • sick movie you should think about a career in making movies

i just finish the book and went on youtube to find a video that made it easier to understand yours is definitly the best

  • gatsby didn't wear a tie

shit, his shirts didnt even have collars

  • ...cool. I think you`re a little too passionate about this.

  • I just ruined the book for myself...:O

Oh, well, you know what they say, nothing can compare to the book version...

    wish me luck....

    btw, this was good.

  • thanks man, I get it now!

  • WOW! I wish you were in my High school English class 4 years ago!

  • wow thank you so much for this vid. It really helped me understand the book much better. You could fix some of the grammar errors that made it confusing..but overall it was great!! Thanks again.

  • his name was origninally James Gatz not jason

  • *thank

  • Ah hank you! I knew I had heard it somewhere...

  • Awesome job! This helped alot. I love the way they're all like " :O " lol.

What is the song that starts at 2:34 and finished at 4:28? It's just so sad...

  • its the theme from forrest gump...lol

  • hi nice video, but at 2:33 i'm sure he was given the name James Gatz, correct me if I'm wrong

  • Nice, I got a test on Gatsby tommorrow

  • great video. i just wanna ask what's the name of the "party" song u used? thanks.

  • the party song is the overture from the broadway musical "Chicago"

  • ohh thanks. yea i know i heard that somewhere but don't know where haha.
