The one on Sesshoumaru's shoulder is definitely a parasitic demon. As for his father? Well, it could be the same. Or it could be a cloak. That one I'm not sure about.

Rumiko Takahashi said that the fluffy thing was part of his body (not his tail) just a part of his body, whe he transforms the flu get stuck to his body (weird) you can see a few pictures of him in his true form with his flu thing hanging down on his shoulder

i think when he gets back to his human form, the fluffy return to his shorter form

It doesn't go so far to as it's his tail, but the book does indicate that it is part of his body.

No, Rumiko called it a parasite. I'm very sure that she did. And parasites DO become a part of the host. so, yeah, it is a part of him, but a part that he wasn't born with...is this making any sense to anyone besides myself?
