@ProjectILT No, actually it was for security purposes. The car had been vandalized in the past. The storm just happened, and the camera was in the right place at the right time.
Amazing and odd at that same time....With two big GM wagons and of classic of that elk, was this filmed in 80's or '90s. Anyways weather and car wise i dig it!
I was the person that it hit in the basement. My dog is still petrified to this day of storms. I was ok but felt a little strange and achy for about a week or so.
@patman5961 so the lightning sends of some kind of pulse which stops the camera correct? if so, why in some videos the EXTREMELY close lighting does not effect the camera?
Good thing nobody was getting into it or leaving at the time. Great demonstration of how LETHAL ground currents are often present around a lightning strike.
well in the still frame it looked like the car had a neon light below it and the hubcaps were coming off like butter anyways how were u able to pull the data out of the damaged camera?
sweet mother of god!the hubcaps from that station wagon even came off!!!i wouldnt have liked to be touching the floor by the time that happened!BTW did the camera go to trash?or was it just temporarily disabled by the electro magnetic pulse?
this i find one of the most believable shots. The fact that the camera collapsed from the shock didnt surprise me. Did you suffer any physical shocks or disturbances?
No, the camera was set up all alone. But, a neighbor who was in the basement 4 houses away was actually shocked when she went to calm down her dog. As the lightning struck the tree the surge passed through the ground, into their basement, through the dog (who was unharmed), then arced between her finger and the dog's nose. Sending a small charge through her arm. But no harm done!
That's a great description of the ground currents at work. Very similar to what happened in the video on YouTube of the guy working on his motorcycle when lightning hits close by.
Whoa! it looked like the lightning came from under the car lol i sure feel sorry for any cats or rodents taking cover underneath, lol or else they would be fried, Did that car broke down because of the blast?
Actually it is surveillance footage. The station wagon in the foreground was being vandalized, so the owner set up the night vision camera. That night, the storm hit.

Car Wagons, Strong Thunderstorm, Weird Place. PERFECT for a horror movie, but it's not. :D

Gotta love the "Family Truckster"... lol

The close strike creates a strong magnetic field called an EMP (electro-magnetic puls) That caused the camera to loose sync; malfuction.

What happened was the camera was running through a VCR. So as hit, it zapped the power and the VCR shut down.

It is completely impossible to film a lightning strike that close. The camera just cant handle it.
Himom2032 3 years ago
True, this was a totally lucky capture. Right camera angle, right time. Would have been better if the tree was in the frame.
patman5961 3 years ago
I guess I should have said ALMOST completely impossible. :P
