Back in the summer of 1985, when my family lived in Wisconsin, my father decided he wanted to take a specific college course. One of the colleges that had that course was in Edmond. Another was in Iowa. Fortunately, my father chose a different city/state that doesn't tend to get tornadoes. And while I have really fond memories of Wisconsin, I don't know if I'll ever move back there, because of the chance of tornadoes.
Here in Iowa we don't get many F5/EF5 tornadoes as others but we've had our fair share. Charles City, Oelwin, Jordan, just north of where I live, and then Parkersburg
OMG its Gary!! Wow, I have lived in Ok all my life! I was born in 1990. It is so weird to see all this from then and before. How awesome and top of the line everything was. Especially in comparisson to now. Its so crazy. Thanks for Posting!!!! note to self-go through old VHS tapes! :)
I was on my way to Seqyouah (now North HS). My father and I turned around and went home. A few minutes later, my friend's house was hit in the Fairfield housing division. That was so scary!
I am kind of glad I live Arkansas. Tornadoes dont usually get up to F4 Or F5. F4s come In Arkansas once every great while, and there has only been 1 F5 to EVER hit Arkanas! And Look at Oklahoma AND Kansas: They had so many F5 Tornadoes. Tornadoes in Arkansas are usually f0-f3.
Oklahoma has only had 5 "officially" ranked F5 or EF5 tornadoes. Arkansas has had none. The fact that Arkansas hasn't had any is more of a stroke of luck than anything else.
the lighting is poor on that video is because older cameras used camera tubes that are not as sensative to light as CCD image sensors are, plus its dark out.
Thats really cool! I have a RCA CC0111 Newvicon. I bought it used but it was in its orginal box with everything, it was really never used in the 80's. What model do u have? One time I left it down in my basement and didnt turn it on for a while, so when I turned it on the viewfinder started acting a little wierd so I left upstairs for a while where it was much warmer and its worked fine ever since. what happened 2 ur camera?
Mine is a CC011, and it says it was made in Japan in October 1981. I bought it at a mall not far from where the above video was shot. I have the camera right here, but last time I turned it on the picture was just a white screen, kinda like the white balance switch was stuck in the on position.
Wow, havent seen Randy Renner in a loooooong time.

Illinois has had three F5/EF5 tornadoes, and two of them hit the same town, that being Murphysboro!

Hey, I've got an RCA camera from the 80s that has a Newvicon tube. Last time I turned it on, it didn't work anymore, though. :(

For those who can't tell, Randy Renner is crouching down in front of the live truck, so that the headlights can shine on him.
