  • Elisabeth Shue was better in Karate Kid

  • Shue is cold!

  • Elisabeth Shue is stunning, but I think Claudia Wells was a little better suited to the role. By that time, Shue had developed a megawatt screen presence, and so she didn't balance well with Fox's more understated persona. Wells, on the other hand, plays the cute 80's girlfriend role with aplomb.

  • I think I could listen to two Doc simultaneously saying "Roads, where we're going we don't need roads" a hundred times and still not get sick of it. Is easily one of the awesomest lines in an awesome trilogy.

  • 1 person was replaced in a popular movie (I'm talking about the dislikes)

and 2nd of all: I like Elisabeth Shue better. I say that because well... I just like the hair better in 2/end of 3 better

  • I don't get it.. I haven't seen the movies in a long time, but why is it the same ending in the sequel?

  • @Jamjor The ending of the first movie is shown at the beginning of the second movie...same way as the end of the second movie is shown at the beginning of the third movie. In this case, though, the scene was reshot for the second movie as they had to recast Jennifer as the first actress was not available to reprise the role. Actually as a kid I did not even notice this difference.

  • I do believe her mother had just been diagnosed with cancer, thus she was unavailable and was replaced.

  • Everyone always likes what came first best. Had Shue been the first Jennifer everyone would have liked HER better.

  • Wells... Shue... The one with the biggest boobs wins.

  • Doc's face after Marty asks if he and Jennifer become assholes in the future is priceless!

  • did you notice Wells Expression at 1:15 she is not concerned at all but Shues ExPRESSION she ha a creeped out face

  • seen these movies so many times that i didn't even notice Jennifer was 2 different people. HOT DAMN!!

  • I literally just now realized it was 2 different actresses, and I've been watching these movies since I was a little kid. How did I not notice this???

  • I've always liked the second one more.

  • The first one is better.

  • Very cool comparison!

  • SHUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUEEEEE

  • I'd say it was an improvement. Elizabeth Shue is definitely hotter.

  • you know what I call this? ALTERNATE TIMELINE!

  • I'm curious, what software did you use to get the split-screen effect? It looks really good.

  • @leetxcore Its called: Any video editing software ever created.

  • I like the fact they then have to spend half the movie writing out her character, the last seen of BTTF was meant to be a joke.

  • !!!1!

  • I think either way this video still kicks ass! Way to Go 5 Stars

  • This is great work! I think a lot of the timing changes are because the scene is performing a very different role in the 2 films: it's kind of shutting down the first one ("The End...?"), and kicking off the rest of the series in the second.

Relieved to know that Claudia Wells wasn't available for II, and that that wasn't a conscious decision on their part. Wells was much better.

  • lol hes lucky :P

  • Claudia Wells is hotter by far!

  • And what about that: on that same scene at 0:25 you can see a shadow of some newel falling on the wall. But later at 0:44 we can clearly see that the Marty's shadow is falling on the DMC, so in the other way than before. ;)

  • how different our 2015 will be from the one in this movie :)

  • claudia wells is prettier, but elisabeth shue is hotter

  • Do you know how hard it would be to duplicate the exact same performance almost 5 years later. I mean movement, timing, voice inflection, camera angles. Actors usually change something slightly when they do multiple takes in a row. What if the owners or new owners of the house didn't want to lend their house again. What would the production do?

  • They would build of mock-up of just the bits of the houses they needed for the shots on the studio backlot. The background behind Doc would probably be a little different, but they could make it work well enough.

  • @Bargaintuan Sorry to interfere but though there are some minor differences, I still think it is a very good duplicate of the original.

  • @cincinnatiphotoman71 voice inflection actually was noticeably different in many lines. One of my favorite parts of watching was noticing it, actually.

  • marty and doc's hair is different, too.

  • Nice comparison video; I like it.

As for the version from Part II, my biggest beef doesn't have a thing to do with Claudia Wells or Elisabeth Shue; it's that MJF's performance is so much better in the original film, but in Part II he looks exhausted. The way he says the dialogue, his movements and expressions....its all off, particularly in the moments before Doc shows up. Marty's just returned from a week of not seeing Jennifer, and he looks like if he weren't holding onto her he'd pass out.

  • my sisters actually had a best friend named Jennifer Parker. Man she was hot!

  • Jennifer Parker IS Claudia Wells for me, Eliizabeth Shue did well but for me she is just a stand in.

  • Part 1: Marty doesn't have a watch.

Part 2: Marty has a watch on his left hand.

Part 1: When Marty asks Doc what he's doing, the passenger door is open. How it got opened, I don't know.

Part 2: The door is closed.

I don't know if it's the light or the makeup, but Doc looks really pale in part 2.

  • On the DVD it says In BTTF Part II they didnt want to put all the prosthetics and make up on christopher lloyd since he would be playing Doc Brown for two more films. thats why in Part two they wrote in the dialog where they land in 2015 and doc is explaining to marty he went to a rejuvenation clinic.

  • @myteewhytee It's probably the light.

  • Wait wait wait. Was that an E30 in Marty's driveway?

  • Claudia . She was my first "movie crush"

  • yeah, me too (U)

  • I choose Shue, she's better looking.

  • Well, I know Elisabeth Shue better.

  • I choose Claudia, hands down. I've met her, she's very nice and still a babe!

  • Even with some of the bigger differences you have to hand it to the Bobs for more or less perfectly re-creating the final scenes from BttF I

ALTHOUGH... anybody know why marty's hair is longer in Bttf II ?

was he commited to another show or something? coz with all the scrutiny it seems odd they didnt get his hair right :S

  • Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale are genious... great job guys.

I prefer Elisabeth Shue, but it's a personal taste.

  • I'm so into E. S. =)

  • very good movie, i see more or less 30 times....both

  • Marty in Part 1:Hey, Doc, WE better back up. We don't have enough road to get up to 88.

Part 2:Hey, Doc, YOU better back up. We don't have enough road to get up to 88.

    Anyone else notice that?

  • I realize somone posted this question a year ago, but they asked why Doc's response to Marty's Asshole line is different in the part 2 footage. Well I read that Christopher Lloyd never did a take the same way, so no matter what his reaction was going to be different, just because that's the kind of actor he is.

  • @tonydecaro They changed it purposely. They added it to go along with Marty's downward spiral when people call him a chicken in Part II and III.

  • Shue rocks in Leaving Las Vegas!! and of course I vote for her here XD

  • Claudia all the way!

  • Small detail-almost everything in both versions are the same to the smallest detail (other than the different actresses), but the window shades in the neighbor's house are different colors in each version.

  • lol

  • Claudia Wells, the original Jennifer Parker

She is STILL super hot today...

check this out at ytube, u won't believe how hot she is still...

'Back to the Future Replica DeLorean'

  • Goddamn Claudia Wells is beautiful!!

  • Claudia wells!!!!

  • Great video, thank you for sharing!

  • Top video mate

  • Wow, this is really cool to see! Obviously it shows a small glimpse into what it takes to set up a shot sequence... let alone DUPLICATE it so that it feels as if it were whatever the original was.

I'm certain Zemeckis knew that things like this would be an integral part in the movies... especially since they're all about time...

  • Fascinating. I've always wanted to see a side-by-side. Thanks!

  • first Jennifer is so much better

  • She's so much more beautiful

  • I totally agree, however Elisabeth Shue ain't bad either! I did wish that the original Jennifer,Claudia Wells, was in part 2 and 3. Could someone let me know "Why" she wasn't in the other 2 movies? I love the "Back 2 the Furture" movies and personally I think, overall, they would've been better if Claudia was in them. She was sooo hot in the movie and is "Still" hot!! Just search her name on YouTube and there's some vids of her, what she looke like now. She's in her 40's and still hot as ever!!!

  • her mother had been diagnosed with cancer, and she was not available to reprise the role for the two sequels. Wells was replaced by Elisabeth Shue.

  • Really I didn't know that. Thanks alot!!

  • @Hultapajk i know. shes much more hot

  • No,disagree, she (the first)is more distant and isn`t really interacting like the second one. She is beautiful, but not acting that good, I think

  • claudia wells

  • Very interesting comparison. Amazing how close they got with the blocking, editing, etc. Especially considering the time (hehe) difference. Don't really care about which actress was better, since Jennifer was a throwaway character from the get-go.

  • Claudia Wells was bettter

  • I don't care I'll do them both..

  • wen i first saw back to the future 2 i didnt notice they used a different actress until about 6 years later

  • The performances were actually better in the original.

  • whats real name of 1rst jennifer

  • The replacement actress (Elisabeth Shue according to the above) was probably the worst I've ever seen in a major role of any movie. I was stunned and amused at how bad she was. She sounded like someone they found in a high school play.

  • What's your rating for Back to the Future Part II in general? Many critics thought it was subpar to the original. Elizabeth Shue's portrayal of such a small character (when you think about it, over the course of the 3 movies, Jennifer Parker doesn't do very much), I'd think, would really be of no consequence to most people.

  • I liked the movie, not sure how to rank it vs the others though.

Shue's acting was distractingly bad for me, but you're right it's a small role so it didn't hurt the movie much.

  • Elisabeth Shue is the best! No question. I was so dissapointed, when I saw BTTF back in 1985 and found out, that Claudia Wells played Jennifer instead of Elisabeth Shue, then when part 2 came out in 1989 I was so happy! wee!

  • Wells is way hotter than Shue. At least the way they make them look in the movie.

Now if it was the Elizabeth Shue of Adventures in Baby Sitting, maybe another story.

  • Wait...you saw BTTF when it was brand new, 4 years before the sequels, and were disappointed that Elizabeth Shue wasn't playing Jennifer? Then in 1989 you got your wish? Weird...

  • maybe I shoulda mentioned I'm a time traveler, but I'm not sure if that's even important enough to mention

  • Claudia Wells is the best! No question. I was so dissapointed, when I saw BTTF back in 1989 and found out, that Claudia Wells was replaced (and that Crispin Glover was not in the movie).

  • I agree two of my favorites was Claudia Wells and Crispin Glover I was looking forward to them Being in Episodes Two and Three.

  • I believe that Claudia and Michael J. Fox looked better when acting together. They formed a couple with more harmony, if we may say that. However, in spite of being prettier, the first actress was more unexpressive. Elizabeth seemed to have more experience in acting, even thought her character looked more immature. :-) Paula (fan of BTTF since I was eight)

  • Claudia is good, but i prefer Elizabeth.

  • Both actresses are class acts. I Would have liked to seen claudia wells in the amount of films I saw Elizabeth Shue in.

  • anyone knows why Claudia Wells

didnt' appear in the second movie????

  • On the DVD commentary, if I'm not mistaken, they say she had emotional problems, but there are rumors she was involved with drugs at that time.

  • her mom had died from breast cancer at the time that is why she was unavailable

  • Claudia wells has good chemistry with michael J had a good vibe about her when I saw the film.

  • Couldn't agree more!

  • I prefer Claudia Wells! :)

  • so do I

  • This is a fun video!!!!! I think both actress are great but I lean towards claudia wells in this role. liked her right away in the first back to the future.

  • Elisabeth Shue is much better than Claudia...no comparison between both !!!

  • agreed. Shue was the better choice.

  • I always wanted to see a scene-by-scene comparison of these two. Thank you!

  • look at you guys debating...I didn't even know it was two different people!

I like Claudia better. Originals are always my first pick.

  • Claudia was way better! She was the original come on

  • All these years and I didn't realize it was another actress. Of the million times I have watched these movies I must say I am ashamed. I personally can't tell a difference they are both pretty fine.

  • fun video I haveto go with the original jennifer parker claudia wells.

  • Claudia looked hotter than Elizabeth...

  • The first back to the future was the best for me and some that had to do with claudia wells bieng jennifer parker. That being said this is a cool video.

  • I prefer Claudia Wells over Elisabeth Shue. Claudia's Jennifer was more smart and mature whereas Elisabeth's Jennifer seemed more nervous and insecure.

  • claudia anytime

  • Wells vs. Shue: Shue

  • agreed: shue is waaaaaaay better!

  • Yeah, the second Jennifer might be a slightly better actress, but the first Jennifer is alot hotter and has that great 1980s hair...second Jen has frumpy-ass hair and sort of plain looks.

Plus, it's odd how the two seem to match up sometimes, but other times they'll change a few things, such as camera angles, Doc also pauses before saying "No, no, no, Marty!" when asked if Marty and Jen are "assholes" in the future...in the original he replies right away.

  • That's because in Back to the Future Part II, we discover that they are indeed assholes in the future. ;-)

  • bahahahahaha!

  • how were they "assholes"? when i think of assholes, i think of jerks, but the future Marty and Jennifer just seemed to be down on their luck and struggling. maybe they should have changed the line to "losers" or something.

  • I imagine when Marty asked that, Doc thought, "Assholes, no, losers, yes." But since Marty asked if they were "assholes", Doc can honestly say "No, no, no, no, Marty." and leave it at that. After all, he doesn't want to tell Marty anything about his future; that could just wind up making things worse.

  • "first Jennifer is alot hotter and has that great 1980s hair...second Jen has frumpy-ass hair and sort of plain looks"

I will agree with that, but I still don't think the scenes of Jennifer in her future family's home would have worked the way they do with Elizabeth if Claudia had been in those scenes instead.

  • Its 'cos he changed history, thats why she's different!

  • "Its 'cos he changed history, thats why she's different!"

    -pugtronix

    LOL, that was good!

  • Oh yeah, Marty just forgot to show how surprised he was! hehehehhe

  • Claudia Wells was a bit unexpressive. Thanks god Elisabeth Shue came at the second one. She´s very sweet, and a better actress...

  • which of Doc's lines is different?

  • elizabeth shue is waaaaay better!

  • i like claudia wells she was prettier! i like the first bttf better mjf is much younger and cutter his voice is like not squeky fun adorable high in a way!

  • Alright, everybody who thinks Claudia Wells was a better Jeniffer comments here with YES. Who thinks Jen2 is better, says NO.

    YES.

  • Reply to my last message: I can´t choose. I think the second Jen is a bit annoying and everything, but if i say that, i will again get a -1 rating from everyone. So sorry for the inconvenience.

  • I agree. Second Jen is annoying.

  • Ah, what the hell: It's my choise! I think the second Jen STINKS!!!!

  • YES. Claudia Wells was way cuter and more mature. Second Jen annoys me.

  • That´s exactly what i mean, but at my comment i get -2 rating....

  • NO. elisabeth shue is better

  • loved the first Jen.

  • Omg yeah. She just had a certain look about her that was just sexy as hell.

  • yeah thats true but the second one was better at acting

  • Claudia Wells was gorgeous, but I think she seems more like a model. Elizabeth Shue seems like an actress. Look at the way Jennifer handles herself when the cops take her to her future self's home; for example, when she reaches for the doorknob and there isn't one. If it had been Claudia Wells acting in those scenes it just wouldn't have felt right, or it would have just fallen flat. Jennifer didn't do anything in part one except look pretty, and Claudia Wells was able to do that.

  • argeed in a way Claudia was good for being a great looking love interest in part 1 but let's face it some of the funny looking facial expressions Elizabeth does in part II don't think Claudia would have able to pull off plus in the end of part I start of part II Elizabeth seems more shocked to see the time mechine then Claudia did

  • ha ha ha damn! BTTF has a cheesy way of how they made it fly but in BTTF2 better computer effects to it

  • There were no "computer effects" in BTTF2, except for the Jaws gag.

  • Hmm really no computer effects at all? well they did a awsome job on it. and I do remember it now. but they did an AWSOME job on making the Delorean taking off from the begining of the movie that was awsome!!

  • Elisabeth is my fave!

  • fo sho! shue is the best one

  • blue truck and red truck are both missing 0:43

  • the truck in the background at 1:08 is also missing...

  • (Reply) (Spam)

Nice vid. If your such a Back to the future fan, you

should submit into the best fan vid contest

@ LiveMansion. You could win cash or even a

    De Lorean.

  • also, i dont think george mcfly was played by crispin glover in the 2nd one (if he did, he wasnt credited)

  • Nope. They used his image, though, by using clips from the first movie (you can see one here) and he took them to court over it.

  • Claudia Wells was waaay hotter than Elisabeth Shue, no contest. And while this wasn't entirely Shue's falt, I also hated how dumb they made Jennifer Parker's character in the sequels, which I identify by default with Elisabeth Shue. Claudia Wells Jennifer seemed much more mature, while Elizabeth Shue's Jennifer seemed like a dimwit.

  • Agree!

  • agree wholeheartedly. Shue's ok, i liked her in Karate Kid, but here she just FELT like a replacement, as well as someone Marty just wouldn't go for. as for Jennifer becoming a "dimwit", i think it might have been the rush of what was happening to her. it'd have been interesting to see the mature Well's Jennifer going through the predicaments Shue's faced in the sequels and see how she'd have fared.

  • Actually, it wasn't Shue's fault at all. She's a Harvard graduate. Not a dumb bone in her body. She's also gorgeous, even today in her mid-40's.

  • wow i can't believe how they just changed the actress thinking that noone would notice haha. :P

  • i never noticed the differences until my brother told me hahah

  • which line of doc's was different? i didnt catch it

  • "Both you and Jannifer turn out fine." vs. "You and Jennifer both turn out fine." at about 1:20.

  • Also, check out Marty's slightly changed line at the very beginning.

  • That because they are, as we later find out, so there's more significance this time. ;-)

  • u can see the camera in the license plates both times

  • The shots without Jennifer in them in BttF2 are just reused from BttF.

  • oh...well u can still see the camera haha

  • I think I got confussed. Disregard last comment.

  • The gross Jennifer was played by Lea Thompson, who played his mom, Yuck! Why on earth did they do that?

  • "The gross Jennifer was played by Lea Thompson, who played his mom, Yuck! Why on earth did they do that?"

    -jessiejane1972

Lea Thompson didn't play 2 characters in the BTTF trilogy. The second Jennifer was played by Elizabeth Shue.

  • It is extremely easy to see the 2 differences in the movies.

  • Muito bom... é sempre bom rever essas cenas....

  • Cladia wells was so attractive, and better for the role than Shue was. Shame she wasnt in the sequels.

  • I like elisabeth shue more then claudia wells!

    also like your video. Thanks!

  • It's fantastic! Thanks! :-)

  • Otaku xD

  • claudia wells is beautiful!!! o_o!

  • claudia wells > elisabeth shue

  • nice 5 stars

  • why was Claudia Wells was unavailable to play Jennifer in Back to the Future Part II?

  • According to the IMDB, she stopped acting to be with her mother, who had been diagnosed with cancer.

  • pretty good idea to do this
