@KingTobyn After I made that comment I saw they actually do cover Pink Floyd, so it's not as surprising to me anymore. ANd I can think of much worse guitarists to be influenced by then David Gilmour.
You know lyrics can have different meanings to whomever is iterpreting them. This song is beautiful and it doesn't make me think of drugs at all. Why does everything have to refer to drugs with people? And if it is it is, but why is that what people choose to talk about? How about the music and the way it feels?
@lunabonkers people choose to talk about the songs reference to drugs because that is what the intent behind the lyrics were when it was written. also if you or anyone you have ever known has ever fallen into meth then it makes the song even more powerful because the lyrics then become even more hauntingly accurate. but yes you are right as well, the music itself was matched perfectly to fit what the song conveys, and it i will use the word haunting again because that is the feeling it gives.
@Guitarscreech06 Good way of summarizing teheir influences. I'd say lots of Elton John, and since I'm a great fan. I do enjoy this bands work a lot. Besides, I think they're talented performers.
The part in this song with the patchwork girl also references the quilt remembering the victims of AIDS/HIV as part of the NAMES project. I love this song, because you can change it to reflect on what you want, at first I connected it to memories and change, as well as just the sadness of reality in drugs/people - even after looking up all the references, it still can reflect many things
This is a sad song I agree. I did some research on this. Not only is it about crystal meth but about being gay & how drugs have affected the GBLT community leading to HIV AIDS. & how they as a community, because they are so small compared to the rest of society have seen alot of friends pass away because drugs, sex & the diseases it can bring if you get too caught up in it. overall cuz gay people seem to deal with alot of rejection from the world they turn to the party scene.... Sad. But true.
logancircle2--Actually, I don't think this is about Meth, it's about the movie "Return To Oz," DIsney's deppressing dark movie about Dorothy Gale's return to Oz. Anew witch ahs taken over, destroyed all of Oz, including the Emerald City, and the Yellow Brick Road, and turned everyone into stone except for a few important people including the scarecrow, who were all kidnapped by the ?Knome King? I think.
The evil witch in control, cuts of the heads of the prettiest frozen-in-stone maidens and keeps a collection of them. She can thus change her head on a whim. Can dorothy defeat the new evil witch and her army of "wheelers"? It is a real movie, and is very very very depperssing. In fact, it's uber surprising that it is so deppressing because it was made by Disney, there usually not so morbid as this movie.
I didn't find it depressing. Maybe a little more realistic in its emotion at times, particularly before she gets into Oz. But how is having a shelf of heads any more morbid than wanting to cut out snow white's heart? Or impaling a villian on the front end of a ship?
@logancircle2 I didn't pick up the crystal meth, I thought it was about extacy cause it also causes clinching jaws, but crystal meth makes more sense. Plus I heard it's popular in the gay community.
A bit of both I would assume as its said that the band members watch a lot of films - the video for Mary was done by Don Bluth as they loved an animated sequence from Xanadu(or some musical).
For me it meant hitting 30 and wondering where the time has gone! o_O Either way, its one of the best Sister songs.
Oh my God, the other day was the first time I'd ever heard this song and my *immediate* reaction was "This sounds like a cross between David Bowie and Pink Floyd." I'm so glad other people noticed!
I was absolutly sure i knew this song, i really thought Pink floyd did it! How thick am i?? I had the same delusion about David Bowie's Life on Mars, when i was 8, there was a cartoon with mice in it? it must be my nacolepsy?? cant tell my dreams from reality...
ok, they love pink floyd (listen to the cover of confortably numb), so they could only have taken inspiration from their songs... But I think that this song reminds me too much of something else...what? I don't know yet.. but for me you're not crazy! :) sorry for my english :P
Thank You.. but id like to say your English is better than mine. I was borne in England, and i still cant talk the lingo...hahahaaa! and i totally know what you mean! i love Comfortably Numb, i love Pink Floyd, but when i hear this song im sure ive heard it before, like years ago?? .... thank you for understanding me!
Have you heard ''Is There Any Body Out There'' type it in, its Pink Floyd with Bob Geldof in the Video...have a look...its soooooooooooo good!
I saw the movie, the wall, but I didn't remember this melody...wonderful guitar and I must say that there is something similar to this one...strange strange things... good job for scissors sisters however, even if they took inspiration from someone, they made an original and nice song, full of links and meanings, also in the lyrics...
I read it's about drug abuse in the gay community.

Guitar solo sounds like David Gilmour from Pink Floyd. Or maybe I'm just insane.

I was thinking the exact same thing. Only Scissor Sisters could pull it off :)

I don't think it has to be about the dark crystal or crystal meth exclusively. I think it's about both, double meaning, you know?

@Supatsu Dark crystal is a fictional substance. This song is about crystal meth.

I like not knowing what its about, part of the mystery; crystal meth maybe, or just the outdatedness of old disney movies
excellent tune

surely it's also about the frailty of memory ~ the fact that you can never go back because it's never the same?

The song makes both references to crystal meth and The movie Return to Oz.

@BlackholesDragon And other Oz book references like the Patchwork Girl, she wasn't in the movie... (except a small cameo at the end I think)
