this movie could have been much better. the cast/performance of actors is great and the buildup was quite good. The payoff on the other hand was dissapointing. too much cheesy and stale shock moments that have been made countless times before. i expected some kind of more subtle horror reminiscent of the shining.

But this movie has two ending...john cusack dies.in the one i downloaded recently... and he survives in the other one i saw on tv....

The second ending is more creepy.... in the end is wife is listening to the recording in which she hears their daughter's voice.. "Daadyyyy"...

Wife is shit scared and looks at john... john is looking outside with a smile on his face as if he is saying..." I told you....."

@MegaGooglyEye There are 2 endings and in the first version (that was gonna be the "main" ending) the test audience said the ending was too lame because Mike survives..so the director made a second -alternative- ending where he dies. Not sure which one is used in the movie..can't remember anymore.

Just saw this movie for the first time tonight (the Unrated Version with alternate ending) and I thought it was great. Not the best movie ever, but Cusack was insanely good. It's not so much scary as it's oppressive, depressing, and just makes you feel like the character is in a hopeless situation. I kept wanting to turn it off, not because it was bad, but because it was intense and I just wanted his ordeal to be over. Good stuff.

This is arguably the best horror movie in exsistence. There were only like 4 or 5 cheap pop out thrills. The entire rest of the story is phsycological. The room messes with you mind. It makes you anticipate that cheap pop out and then doesn't deliver. You become paranoid. Its amazing :D

The soundtrack "we've only just begun" was cool.

And I've never played "Silent Hill: the room". I've played silent hill 2 and 3 though. Anyway, it reminded me of Silent Hill: the room where you're trapped in this hotel room just like 1408.

And the crying baby reminded me of the Max Payne Dream Level, where you run through the corridors and follow the blood trail. Or that room in Maxs dream which tells you "you're in a computer game / graphic novel, Max!"

This was a Fantastic movie, usually you can get over a horror movie fairly easily unless it really gets you psychologically, and that's exactly what this movie did to me. Right on.

I was never a fan of horror movies, i just think they're stupid... thriller like silence of the lambs which is about serial killer are good, but horror involving ghosts are simply a waste of time. I usually only watch them together with friends so i can play pranks on them... >: )

Having said that, I LOVE THIS MOVIE! If only there's more horror movie like this, could even fall in love with the genre.
