  • the good old days when the screen was free of all those annoying graphics. god, i hate espn.

  • Great rivalry in the mid 1980s

  • can you count how manny future cowboys are in this game

  • Thanks for posting! Loved it!

  • go ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooouuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • his highschool team was 0-8 before he got to pass the ball. the option packages only work if you have the size up front. Aikman was the biggest guy on his highschool team.

  • Aikman ran the wing-T and wishbone offense at Henryetta,Oklahoma High school. His coaches noticed he had an accurate arm and quick release.......AT THE 8TH WEEK OF HIS SENIOR YEAR!!!!!! he snapped the last two games, touchdown passes everywhere and they made the state playoffs 2 AND 8 GOING TO STATE!!!!! YEP! THE HENRYETTA HENS THATS HOW BARRY SWITZER FOUND HIM!

  • The anti-option crowd loves to cite 1985 as the year the Wishbone died. Miami had the better team, pure and simple and Johnson was an OU defensive coordinator in the 70s and knew option football. Further Air Force whipped the mighty Texas Longhorns in Houston with the Wishbone triple option in '85; I was there. The Option is still potent.

  • @neoconretard ~ you're right! The Sooners were whooped pretty good by the Washington Huskies in the Orange Bowl of the '84 season. They did run the wishbone with QB Bradley that year. I just pull this stuff from the top of my head as I remembered it. I do have a very good memory for sports in the 70's & 80's. The Sooners wanted to match the Huskers when they did run that "I" with Dupree. Dupree simply left OU and that was that. It worked out for the Sooners eventually.

  • that was the rock who played for the canes when neb wore down sapp and the boys to claim another title 1994

  • I saw this game. This was the year that brought OU back. Danny Bradley was the QB the year before as the Sooners ran the "I" formation to accomodate then superstar RB Marcus Dupree. Aikman's ankle was broken by 'Canes DT Jerome Brown (R.I.P.). The Sooners went on to win the Nat'l Title this year defeating Penn State 25-10 in the Orange Bowl. The Sooners were actually favored to win this game. The 'Canes got killed by the Tenn Vols in the Sugar Bowl 35-7. Beautiful post!

  • @ajasa30

Try to avoid the profanity. Pet peeve of mine, regarding the comments.

  • Aikman is 6'4, not 6'3. Announcer made a mistake.

  • This was back when Miami played every bowl game in the orange bowl at the end of the year. home field advantage always.

  • @LostBoyyy

Miami played in the Sugar Bowl after the 1985 season, losing to Tennessee. The SEC team had a virtual monopoly the tickets and fan support in the Sugar Bowl.

But there's no question Miami benefited from playing in the Orange Bowl, bowls and otherwise. I wish it were still the case. We make up for our previous advantage by currently occupying the most bland glorified neutral site imaginable.

  • @LostBoyyy its funny when usc was playing the rose bowl every year but when the canes played the orange bowl everybody bitched

  • @craigclass yeah, that is true..i just dont think it was fair back then but guess its all about money.

  • Aikman was recruited by Switzer.......He wanted to play for Switzer....He broke his ankle and freshman Jamelle Holieway came in and took OU to the Nat'l Championship....Holieway was probably the greatest wishbone qb of all time...maybe Thomas Lott.....Aikman got beat out by Holieway....Aikman lost his job...There was no way Switzer was going to replace the qb who won the Nat'l Championship with crybaby Aikman

  • @Spitzerman you leave out the fact that switzer promised aikman that he would change the offense as aikman is not an option qb. when switzer kept the 'bone, aikman transferred to ucla......

  • @ztztzyzy

Switzer also said they would throw about 15 passes a game and looking at the stats comming into this game in 1985 Oklahoma had thrown the ball 40 times in 3 games(which was a lot for a Switzer coached wishbone team). Switzer also helped Aikman in his transfer to UCLA and actually said that when his(Aikman's) draft class came he had coached the best pure QB in that class he was laughed at by people saying to Switzer"What do you know about a QB"

  • @paulsonj72 Switzer is the jackoff responsible for Marcus DuPree's downfall, he berated him often and treated him like shite. DuPree could've been one the greatest college backs of all time. I don't remember the name of the special thay did on espn about DuPree. Why would anyone treat a superback that way? i'll let you speculate. As for Aikman, when he found out Shitzer was his new cowboys coach, there was still residual static as I remember espn covering that. they kiss and make up so to speak

  • @ztztzyzy I hear you. Broyles on this audio with Keith Jackson is the Jackoff that refused Jimmy Johnson an opportunity to coach the Razorbacks and Johnson highly resented it and ended up in Miami taking them to a national championship. You know Switzer played for Broyles. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

  • @Riverdrinker how true....some cowboys fans will point out that shitzer won a superbowl with the cowboys. i say: not so fast, he won with jimmy's players and the cowboys never got back to the big game after that. as for broyles, he *thought* he knew what was best for the razorbacks. the turd didn't tell jimmy that hatfield was already hired as coach. imagine how he felt after jimmy's hurricanes kicked the crap of of the razorbacks in '87 - (51-7).

  • anyine besides me know who number 93 is for miami ??? i'll give you a hint

"if ya smell what the .........is cookin"

  • @Fultonfalcons86 that's not the rock he played for da U from 1991-95

  • @Dobbs2007 i stand corrected my mistake.

  • @Dobbs2007 Did The Rock start at DT during the season they shut out Nebraska for National Title?

  • @GENERALSPARTAN27 What year?

  • @Dobbs2007 In 1991, when they shut out Nebraska 22-0 in the Orange Bowl

  • @GENERALSPARTAN27 idk he was a starter and then warren sapp took his job.

  • @Fultonfalcons86 Rock was a frosh in 90

  • @sawyerg13 yeah i was corrected in an earlier post

  • the cheerleader that was on the screen is my Mom!! :)

  • if aikman had not got hurt a good chance ou could have been. 36-0

  • no way he got hurt which is a part of the game so that makes no sense....aikman was gonna leave OU anyway because he hated barry switzer...he even hated him when he came to dallas.

  • I watched this game for Bosworth and Testaverde......not Aikman........and I have always been a cowboy fan and I just missed what Aikman was doing......weird.

  • This game is better played than most NFL games you see today. Better fundamentals, better QB arms, man.

  • Would have been interesting to see what would have happened if Aikman would not have broke his leg in this game...not only for this game but his career as a Sooner. The guy had a rocket launcher arm even as a frosh.

  • he was never gonna stay at OU because switzer lied to him and said he would throw the ball when he found out that was a lie he transferred...aikman was never gonna stay.
