@Cht1700 no. You almost never NEED a certain type of pen. I can do this with a regular bic. However, its a lot easier with an actual spinning pen. The extra length and weight gives better stability and slower movement.
@Parixer Actually, colloquially this is referred to as tipped sonic.
HOWEVER, a tipped sonic is technically just a sonic with no rotation. So a tipped sonic should be going up (same as regular sonic) and what you're doing is tipped sonic reverse.
