@499riogrande The original record is in F. Probably because there's a horn on it, and horn players like F (1 flat), C (natural key), and Bb (2 flats). Whereas, the Key of E has 4 #'s... not exactly a horn friendly key.
Great cover of this Honky Tonk. What I would like to know is how could I receive a lesson (tab if available) and backing track to this one song please? Thank you.
I have a CD of the Ventures doing a cover of the greatest instrumentals classics of all time and this song is one there.....great song, never knew who the original artist was until now. Great cover, man!
WOW! I first heard that in 1967 on my Grandfather's stereo. Bill Doggett. YOUR videos caused me to sign up....first time in over 6 years looking at You Tube. THANK YOU! THANK YOU!
Thanks Sam, A great rendition of a very great all time classic. After I practice a little more I'm going to try my own version. I wish someone would do a good backing track for this one.
When I heard that lick at 1:23-1:30, I hollered YES!! and went and got my guitar to learn it. I've heard that so many times in old country tunes .... this is great
Is your name guitar George, do you know all chords, an old guitar is all you can afford, and you play in the Sultans of Swing? Cause you can play Honky Tonk just like anything...
Wow i always love this song and wanted to learn how to play it when i first heard the ventures do it. And you play it great and with good sound. Were do i go to learn it.
Great job, Sam. I'm always impressed with your selections. This song has so many great licks, it's amazing to find 'em all in one place. I've been trying to learn a little of this song and, as always, I'm reminded of how easy you make the hard stuff look.
The hands of a surgeon. The skill of a master craftsman. I only wish one day I could be half that good. Actually I'll settle for just a quarter of that.
It's been awhile since I've watched your videos, but once again, you do a great job! Kudos!!

So cool. I have learnt more from Twangy's vids than years of lessons. His generosity is remarkable

Great lesson Sam! That bit from 1:25 to 1:50 is giving me some hell today though. Maybe a drink or two will smooth things out for me.
Anyway, thanks for the lesson.
