I remember this from when I was only 7years old. I was real shocked when I watched this & so were my parents. I remember after dinner sometimes watching Jill Dando on the show "Holiday". I remember watching her on that show just before she died or maybe it was on the same week she died. I was watching this saying "I hope the catch the bastard" to my parents. Shocking times indeed. RIP
Good too see the BBC One Clock before the BBC Six 0 Clock News at 0:00 a shame it was not Moira Stuart on that night but it was a good bulletin anyway a really fantastic excellent bulletin this one is and its good too see the clock moving at 0:01 and 0:02 and 0:03 at 0:04 and 0:05 and 0:06 its also good seeing the opening titles at 0:07 for the BBC Six 0 Clock News amazing Jennie Bond at 5:55 and a short time ago Jill Dandos brother Nigel spoke about how much he would miss his sister 6:006:01
I love the intro starting at 0:06 that music is just amazing I used too always look forward too the BBC Six 0 Clock News listening too that theme tune at the start what a classic theme tune this is and I can't believe this is going way back too Monday 26th April 1999 when that thing happened too Jill Dando but considering that was about 11 years ago when that happened this BBC Six 0 Clock News is a real classic and I love the theme tune starting at 0:05 this is fantastic I love this bulletin me
@hearts76100 Your'e probably right. Don't get me wrong, I know her death was wrong. Murder is murder, but she did sleep her way to the top. She was like Natasha Kaplinksy. She was shagging 7 men plus her fiance. She was never the nations sweetheart. But that doesn't make her death right.
You really need to be sawn up and dumped in plastic bags outside a aids clinic.
I'm not a religious person, but I will now pray to all the 'Gods' that your life is short, painful and maybe you will get an education in hell. I doubt it thou. First you are a massively dumb cunt, and you are an ameriscum.
Tell you're mum I'll pay her that cash next week. Skettty bitch.
I'd wish someone would rape you with a peanut, that would soon shut your fucking noise. and then maybe snoop doggy dogg can get some big black dudes you open you up, put cleaning agents in your eyes then maybe take you for a ride in his 64.
I remember seeing this on the Six o' Clock news, not expecting what he was about to say - I nearly hit the floor. Probably one of only 2 or 3 things that I've ever seen on the news that has truly shocked me to my heart.
Well at the time I used (for this recording) a general tape that had already been used a fair bit, as it was a general recordings tape for watching stuff later. Explains all really, pretty knackered.
You're indeed correct... back in 99 our TV had an aerial on top of it.... that's why there's fuzziness.
The problem with the picture and sound is because I used to record most things at the time in LP mode, which compressed more onto the videotape instead of SP.
Martin Lewis and Jenny Bond are the newscasters on the day when Jill Dando was murdered by stalkers. Check out more BBC Six O'clock News Titles on aussiebeachut and 15hl channels. Ian Orlando
Hiya jamestheposh do you by any chance have the fifteen minutes past six from the same bulletin because i tried to look for it in the middle of part two if its not already up can you upload it
It's uploaded in 10 minute parts (as these were uploaded before youtube lifted its 10-minute video limit), so part one is 6:00-6:10, part two is 6:10-6:20 and part three is 6:20-6:30
Sometimes theydidn't mention the time at 6:15, they just expected the viewer to look at a clock if they wanted to know what time it was.
Or it might have been part of some religious celebration as Bradford has a large Muslim population (although I'm not a Muslim so I don't know for sure)
The tapes last longer without the picture degrading.
Though this can depend on the machine.
Sometimes, they just put all these "HQ" "DX" etc on the tape cover when you buy it just to sell more tapes.
Personally, my family have always bought high-quality Scotch, Maxell and "DX" Sony tapes. Some tapes made by Sky TV that we used diidn't last more than a year before turning to cr*p.
yes it does although not as quickly on cheaper tapes.
The tape, despite being the same colour, is made of some kind of special iron oxide particles with chemicals on them which make the last longer and stick better to the tape.
I don't know what these chemicals are called, as I was never very good at Chemistry and Biology. although i was excellent at Physics in my science lessons :)
Because otherwise, you'll get that flashing colour all the way through. I've seen a recording made on a machine with a "dead" (broken) erase head, and the constant flashing colour through a 1hr 40min film gets very annoying.
The wierd flickering colours at the start are where the erase heads haven't erased that bit, so there is still the signal that was previously on that part of the tape is still there. This is because the erase heads take several more seconds to gain enough power than the audio, video and control track heads.
The general fuzzi-ness of the picture throughout could be caused by a poor signal if Jamestheposh lives in a poor reception area.
The erase heads erase the signal that was previously on the tape before the heads inside the head drum record the new signal onto the tape.
It uses an electromagnet (a magnet that's only magnetic when charged with electricity) to scramble the iron particles again, thus erasing the old signal.
I think it's because of the way the video threads the tape. Because of the way the parts are laid out inside the VCR, when the tape is going through the mechanism, after the left brake pads, the first thing the tape goes acoss will be the erase heads, then the video head drum, which records. The bit of tape already exposed will encounter the video head drum first because of the way it is loaded. As the previous signal hasn't been erased on this little bit, this is what the flashing colours are.
Plus did you see this CITV continuty from 1994 that MrTVBoy uploaded the quality is really fantastic on that can you tell me how he might have kept this in good quality over the years
I don't know why it's in such quality. It might be whatever he has used to capture the video to his PC from his VCR. Do you use DVD ripping or one of those USB to VCR things?
Yes. Jill Dando's murder makes me feel sad. James, I guess this is one of Martin Lewis' final newscast before he left the BBC in May 1999. R.I.P., Jill Dando. Do not spam or erase this message so everyone can read. No spammers, please! Diana M. May 11, 2009

Hey Aidan can you tell me whats great about a high quality vhs tape such as a normal vhs tape
Hammadmossop1988 2 years ago
You see Aidan I remember every evening they always use to say the time is 6.15 and still to come pretty different to the programme now
Hammadmossop1988 2 years ago
Well, as I say, this is proof that they sometimes didn't do that.
I expect they didn't so it on this day as it would have been sort of disrespectful to a famous woman that the production team knew so well.
AidanLunn 2 years ago
The tapes last longer without the picture degrading.
Though this can depend on the machine.

Hammadmossop1988 2 years ago
Also AidanLunn does the control track also get damaged on high quality vhs tapes
Hammadmossop1988 2 years ago
yes it does although not as quickly on cheaper tapes.

AidanLunn 2 years ago
What other damages can happen with high quality tapes Aidan
Hammadmossop1988 2 years ago
Why do tapes get old due to wear and tear Aidan do you know
Hammadmossop1988 2 years ago
Well the spinning head drum (that tilting round silver thing inside the video recorder) can wear the tape as it goes at such a high speed.
Also, a mechanical failure can chew the tape.
AidanLunn 2 years ago
Also Aidan iron oxide particles can wear off from the tape but on higher tapes it doesnt wear out right
Hammadmossop1988 2 years ago
It does wear out but not as quickly as cheaper normal tapes.
AidanLunn 2 years ago
Fantastic
Hammadmossop1988 2 years ago
The picture looks a bit flashy on this news bulletin though
Hammadmossop1988 2 years ago
A Lot of times I have ejected a tape and when I pulled it out of the video player the tape snaps
Hammadmossop1988 2 years ago
Well there must be something very wrong with the video player you were using.
Did you see Fun House this morning on Challenge???
AidanLunn 2 years ago
Also can high quality tapes lose its quality and become unplayable
Hammadmossop1988 2 years ago
Yeah, but they take alot more damage to become unplayable than cheaper blank tapes.
AidanLunn 2 years ago
Why does the erase heads erase that part of the tape
Hammadmossop1988 2 years ago
Because otherwise, you'll get that flashing colour all the way through. I've seen a recording made on a machine with a "dead" (broken) erase head, and the constant flashing colour through a 1hr 40min film gets very annoying.
AidanLunn 2 years ago
Does that also happen with age
Hammadmossop1988 2 years ago
I don't think so.
AidanLunn 2 years ago
Why is the quality bad on this tape Aidan
Hammadmossop1988 2 years ago
The wierd flickering colours at the start are where the erase heads haven't erased that bit, so there is still the signal that was previously on that part of the tape is still there. This is because the erase heads take several more seconds to gain enough power than the audio, video and control track heads.

AidanLunn 2 years ago
Why has the erase heads not erased that bit
Hammadmossop1988 2 years ago
I wonder what tape Jamestheposh used for this video recording
Hammadmossop1988 2 years ago
Cant the colours flicker with high quality vhs as well then
Hammadmossop1988 2 years ago
yep. The tape makes no difference, as it's the machine's erase heads that cause that.
AidanLunn 2 years ago
What are erase heads
Hammadmossop1988 2 years ago
How does the erase heads work and how does it work when it gets older
Hammadmossop1988 2 years ago
The erase heads erase the signal that was previously on the tape before the heads inside the head drum record the new signal onto the tape.
It uses an electromagnet (a magnet that's only magnetic when charged with electricity) to scramble the iron particles again, thus erasing the old signal.

AidanLunn 2 years ago
When the colours start to flickr can they become the same as this video then or is this due to Jamestheposh living in a bad signal area
Hammadmossop1988 2 years ago
I think it's because of the way the video threads the tape. Because of the way the parts are laid out inside the VCR, when the tape is going through the mechanism, after the left brake pads, the first thing the tape goes acoss will be the erase heads, then the video head drum, which records. AidanLunn 2 years ago
Well what if the colour didnt flickr and the erase signal didnt wipe the heads
Hammadmossop1988 2 years ago
I think you mean erase heads didn't wipe the signal . .
If they didn't do that then the colours would flicker. The colour flickering is caused by the erase heads not erasing the signal.
