The Rock just killed Cena here. Really. Even if you're on Cena's side, nothing he has said has matched the pure brutality of Rock's words here. You can say Cena's not the phony, Rock is, or vice versa, but that's all opinion and speculation, probably based on who you like more. Cases can be made for both sides of that argument. But, you can't deny that this promo is dynamite. You can't deny that this hit WAY harder than anything else said in this war of words thus far.

Maybe he would have gotten injured and stayed away for a year or two. Maybe he would have had a memorable face or heel turn the second his character got "Stale".
Just know that Rocky was only with the company for 7-8 years and was a legend...Imagine if he stayed for 10, or 15! Or even taking years off and coming back like Jericho...

All of what Cena said there was just a longer version of what he's been saying, and what Rock was responding to here. And, yes, you can deny what Cena said was true. I don't think The Rock came back to promote any movies, because none of the movies he promoted needed the help. Especially Fast Five like Cena said. That movie would've been huge either way.

He simply said that he wouldn't turn his back on the WWE again, and he hasn't. And, it's hard to say that Cena would never leave the WWE because nothing else he has tried to do has really worked out. That was a great promo by Cena, but of course you can "deny" it.

It wasn't the main deal obviously since he was in talks with vince for years about coming back to do something special for the fans, but it was icing on the cake. I get your point about rocky not needing help promoting fast five and I get it I loved the movie and it would have been a hit either way, but it was good incentive for coming back in the first place.

Out of all the movies he could've came back to promote, why the movie that needed the least promotion out of all of the movies he's done? It just makes no sense. @bijansta200 I don't think he needed any extra incentive to come back other than the fact that he did it for years, he probably missed it some, and/or the fact that he wants to do Vince the company a favor. It wasn't about helping his acting career, it was about not hurting it. For the longest time he was afraid the image of a wrestler hurt him as an actor, so he stayed away. He's just in a good place in his acting career now, so he doesn't worry about that anymore, IMO.

The difference between the Rock and John Cena is that the Rock was coming up in an era of competition: WCW particulary and ECW. He and the rest of the Attitude crowd were fighting for survival and dominance. They really were paving the way for guys like Cena, Orton and the rest of the guys.

They go on a tour usually in a foreign country once every month, didn't do that before. matches still go over 5 minutes, even on raw. money in the bank, anyone? and you can pull the attitude era card, but keep in mind pg era started about 3 years ago. and I don't recall rock doing any crazy bumps or having any huge injuries. cena did, and came back. and again, 2 years more!

@bob50039 Umm, no... The Rock was one of the biggest superstars in the Attitude Era and he worked his way there, in a time where Austin, Undertaker and Kane reigned supreme, coupled with the fact that both WCW and ECW were the WWE's competition.
Furthermore, the fact that the Attitude Era was way more demanding on the wrestlers and that the Rock had to do multiple promos within a night whereas Cena only does about two makes it painstakingly obvious who's worked harder and done more.

Sure, there are matches where the older talent "pass down the torch" to the younger wrestlers. That isn't always the case though, and these arent the same circumstances as flair's "retirement match". Undertaker's streak at wm is an example of old talent winning over the younger talent. Even though undetaker pretty much only does wrestlemania matches nowadays, he still wins.
No one cuts promos like the rock. Jericho? He's funny, but he lacks the badassness and hype that the rock brings. Cm punk? He tells it like it is and like stone cold, he doesn't give a damn, he's even funny. Still, the rock has all of the above and he can connect to the crowd better than anyone else. Cena? I think Cena has won as many WWE Titles as HHH. That alone shows what a mockery WWE is now. HHH is a legend in the industry, Cena will never reach that status even if he retires a 30 times champion. He simply said that he wouldn't turn his back on the WWE again, and he hasn't. And, it's hard to say that Cena would never leave the WWE because nothing else he has tried to do has really worked out. That was a great promo by Cena, but of course you can "deny" it.

It wasn't the main deal obviously since he was in talks with vince for years about coming back to do something special for the fans, but it was icing on the cake. @bijansta200 I don't think he needed any extra incentive to come back other than the fact that he did it for years, he probably missed it some, and/or the fact that he wants to do Vince the company a favor. It wasn't about helping his acting career, it was about not hurting it. For the longest time he was afraid the image of a wrestler hurt him as an actor, so he stayed away. He's just in a good place in his acting career now, so he doesn't worry about that anymore, IMO.

The difference between the Rock and John Cena is that the Rock was coming up in an era of competition: WCW particulary and ECW. He and the rest of the Attitude crowd were fighting for survival and dominance. They really were paving the way for guys like Cena, Orton and the rest of the guys.

-An era where appearance matter more than talent(and that includes the divas)
-a pg rating to the show, limiting what wrestlers can do in the ring. In other words, today's wrestlers are somewhat "Babied". (Superstars arent even allowed to bleed anymore)
So really, what it is nowadays is mostly just flash and no actual talent...

Furthermore, the fact that the Attitude Era was way more demanding on the wrestlers and that the Rock had to do multiple promos within a night whereas Cena only does about two makes it painstakingly obvious who's worked harder and done more.

Sure, there are matches where the older talent "pass down the torch" to the younger wrestlers. That isn't always the case though, and these arent the same circumstances as flair's "retirement match". @zammi13 oh yea, rock is one of the best, and his mic skills are the best, next to punks. but the attitude era wit rock and austin lasted all but five years. those guys were at their prime and then "retired" that is why i am on team cena. he has been going hard for nine years non stop, wether you love him or hate him, even thoug he does the same shit, he bust his ass every night, for the fans and because he loves it, and is not out there, like punk said, "doing bad disney movies" and hot promos.

@danny4ization austin had to retire due to REAL injuries, and is easy to bash rocks decision to follow the opportunities he was given but Cena has been making movies ever since he made it big in wwe and guess what? no hollywood studio as never consider him for a role, he's been "going hard for nine years non stop" because he hasn't had any opportunity to star in big time movie, yeah is easy for him to say he loves it and stuff but he really doesn't have much choice doesn't he?

@zammi13 @zammi13 @zammi13 oh yea and i dont hate the rock either. i think he is a hell of an entertainer and technical wrestler......was a technical wrestler. the reason why the rock is so great, its because he is dam entertaining, ill give you that, but wrestling wise? he was just giving that highlight spot cuz of his mic skills. if guys like dean malenko or john morrison had the rocks mic skills, the rock would be nothing. you should look at the video "cm punk shoots on the rock" 2 min long

for example : we all know that santino can't wrestle but he get great cheer because he is entertaining.

I think Cena has won as many WWE Titles as HHH. That alone shows what a mockery WWE is now. HHH is a legend in the industry, Cena will never reach that status even if he retires a 30 times champion. The Title used to mean something, as soon as Cena turned it into a toy with that god awful spinning disc on he made it look worthless and cheap. When the Title changes hands every week nobody cares anymore. When Cena spews out PG13 coorporate speeches tinted with childish rap nobody cares. Cena Sucks

Cena's already made movies and they both stunk, his rapping is also cringe worthy. Even before this match was made The Rock has effortlessly buried Cena time and time again. Honestly, i never hated cena nor liked him last time, bt the more i watched wwe, the more i felt irritated watching wat cena did, the way he talk, so fake n his jokes never made me laugh. hw abt his ring skill? everyone knws it perhaps even some of his 'cenation', the way he wins titles really made me sick, most of the time - fucking fake (we r nt watching superman, r we?) WWE has become more n more fake n very predictable becuz of this 'face'
