Many people slept on this song and slept on Dave Hollister. The 90's urban movies had some of the best music of our teen years and early adult hood. Boyz n the Hood is a classic and I never will 4 get the 1st time I saw it!! I miss the early 90's my Bulls were NBA Champs In Living Color was the SHIT and Fat Ass Woman in Biking shorts was the in. Shaking there ass 2 hip hop!!!! Whut a decade the 90's!!!!
What a track...second best on Boyz N The Hood next to Stanley Clarkes Black On Black Crime...I love these type of RnB tracks, so much soul and feeling.
One of the reasons we don't hear good music anymore is because people steal it - which gives artists less incentive to get out there and even harder for new artists to be heard, let alone make money. If you like good music - support the Artists...pay for their stuff.
@JudyKlein, the main reason we don't hear good music anymore is because Artists have become less and less original. All anyone can do these days is covers of songs written and performed by Artists from our parents' generation and before. Nothing is new. Different faces and voices singing the same old songs.
That said, this is a classic early 90's era R&B song. Music like this just isn't common anymore. This song came out at a time when the murder rate in innercities all over the US, particularly among African American communities were at an all time high. I remember those days vividly. Kids(Black kids) were shooting and killing each other over their tennis shoes, or T-shirt-logos. This is definitely a positive song from a negative time.
@texasvanity so true so true...im a black guy...28 from Long Beach, Ca....it was really bad when I was a kid growing up in Long Beach....shooting all the dam time....black on black crime...for nothing
this is the original song that this beat appeared on as far as I know. This is from the Boyz In The Hood soundtrack, that's when I first heard it. The credits at the end of the movie are run with this song in the background.
it can't be the original beat because its like i've stated in my other post, eric b. and rakim had the exact same beat on a song of theirs, which came out in 1986 or 87, a few years before boyz n the hood, plus i heard the original song of this beat i am referring to, its one of those rare groove break-beat songs from the 70's
texasvanity, look up this video "West Coast All Stars - We're All In The Same Gang"..and listen to the beat at the beginning...the same exact beat as in this song, but only this one came out in early 1990, were as this song by Force One Network was made and released in 1991
anyone happen to know the name of the original song that this BEAT was sampled from? eric b and rakim also sampled this exact beat for the song "i ain't no joke"
Back then, people still spent their time and money on instruments like drums, and knew how to play them so, even thought it sound like something that was sampled, some of the music was actually played by musicians. We could afford to have more people spending their time mastering the type of instruments that help everyone rise up in ways that add to our lives...
And David Hollister lead vocals..are simply powerful. It has that old school 90's drums... and such a positive message..im even surprised a person can leave a comment with profanity..after hearing such pure energy through this music.
Love this Jam! Those were the days. Breaking. Harmonising. Running man. Fade top haircuts. Black Air Jordans. Fight the Power. Eddie was still funny - adult funny. Damned those days were good...
i remember when my homies "cultural funk" did a routine to this jam on the NZ TV programme "yahoo" bak in the days..i wonder if TVNZ stil hav that in their archives??!
Loved this jam ever since I saw the movie back in the day....what tore it up though was the bridge from 3:31 to 3:48 - simply uplifitng! Thanks for uploading Zig-dog! :)
