As an Indian woman, I find it a bit odd that there are 100s of videos by black women describing how to look after Indian hair weave. It's strange that a woman would attach something that has come from another body to her natural hair, unless of course it was falling out because of cancer,then there are wigs. Black hair is beautiful and individual. It's not what's on outside that counts, but your inner beauty and the way you conduct yourself with others.
Relaxed, natural, weaved....as long as you are HAPPY and feel that you are BEAUTIFUL, who give a crap about what state your hair is in. Hair is hair. Our society today worships the white standard of beauty. Just look at all the media messages. Its gotten to a point where we hate ourselves. I don't wear a weave never wore any fake hair or anything fake. My hair is healthy. I will wear it shot and then 2 years later it will it is a lot longer. I keep it conditioned and trimmed.

My comment : I personally don't have a relaxer or a weave but when I see a Black girl with a relaxer I don't look at it as a SHAME thing because even with a relaxer you can still see your hair grade through the relaxer all YOU did is change the texture from curly to straight you can achieve that with a flat iron or hot comb.

It isn't going to take hair that was once coarse and now make it fine because the individual structure of stands aren't genetically designed that way . HAA omg this is true im a hot mess.. i tried so hard to wear natural hair but people make fun of me and since my husband is white and puertorican i go by his family and i had my hair natural and the little kid that lives there said "what happend to your hair?" and that really really hurt me i thought i was a strong minded person to ignore people when they say rude comments to me or grab their purses or even some black people make fun of me they take out a comb and start combing their hair :(

After I had my daughters and realized just how beautiful they are naturally, I decided to start transitioning to natural hair. The 'addiction' becomes (when chemically altering the hair) second nature and considered a part of being a WOC. After 30, my hair changed! I'm calling my mother to actually find out just how long I'd been getting relaxers! (20+ years I suspect).
And thats the simple solution, I love my natural hair and would never have it permed. Rather, Id prefer too learn more about its unique texture. Ive learnt one valuable thing in life that my boyfriend constantly reminds me of everyday, natural beauty is confidence

I could everyday, but that's annoying so i just section my hair in ponytails at night & wrap it & pull it all out & scrunch in the morning. Easiest way to stay away from the flat iron - no damage........

Why does this show braids as if they are NATURAL? You often use EXTENSIONS for braids and they are harsh hairstyle. They can pull your hair out!! Ever see a stranded single braid on the ground randomly? And if you look closely, the white bulbs that indicate hair being literally ripped from the scalp are there!

i'm 15 and recently did my big chop in july so i'm working with a 2 in half inch afro when unstretched. I've got nothing but POSITIVE comments. and to tell the truth i was nervous about going back to school like this and almost ended up getting braids. I think that because i've been holding my head high and not seeming like i'm nervous or uncomfrotable with how i look might be a reason others can only feel the same way. it's only the start of the year but i'm hoping it continues like this

I've tried to before back in 7th grade but ended up getting a relaxer because my mom said i wouldn't be able to actually do it. I'm glad that this time i had my mind set on getting to where i am now. I have nothing against the girls who stay true to their 6-8 weeks touch ups but i think it's pretty cool when the younger females decide to end that. Hope everything is going well for you!!

I put braided extensions in when I get bored with my hair or when I want a break or when I want to where my hair straight. I have natural hair, and I let it breathe from time to time, and because I miss my hair. :) I haven't had a relaxer in so long that I walked into JCPenny's with my mom and the relaxer smelled so bad I almost choked. We both were like "What's that smell??" then we turned around and saw that there was a hair salon right next to us. We laughed because it had been that long.

Nice video. I used to like to wear my hair natural & it became nice & healthy. But not only did some blacks object but I was mistreated & discriminated against on my job. I would get hints about not getting a promotion bc of it & talked down about. After losing that job I decided to buy a wig for an interview & caught a terrible scalp infection when trying on wigs at a Chinese store which caused my hair loss. It got worse due to medications & Ive had to wear wigs while recovering.

I prefer my current natural style rather than a permed/relaxed Euro-centric style. My mom relaxed my hair as soon as I hit 12 and I recently just broke my family cycle by letting my hair go natural. *Every woman in my family* has the idea that straight hair is prettier and more "manageable". I'm ashamed when I hear them talk like that. I'd rather have my natural, thick and full head of hair than my old stick-straight look. I'm 18 and I'm proud and happy to embrace my natural hair.

Do you know how many beautiful natural hair styles for black women? with the right leave in conditioners and and softeners without perm, you can get that hang time. Depending on the length, you can wet braid your hair just in a few sections over night and take it out the next day. What you have? instant wavy crimps that wont wear off. Oh yeah. As an Indian woman, I find it a bit odd that there are 100s of videos by black women describing how to look after Indian hair weave. It's strange that a woman would attach something that has come from another body to her natural hair, unless of course it was falling out because of cancer,then there are wigs. Black hair is beautiful and individual. It's not what's on outside that counts, but your inner beauty and the way you conduct yourself with others.

It isn't going to take hair that was once coarse and now make it fine because the individual structure of stands aren't genetically designed that way . If your hair starts off coarse before the relaxer it's still going to be coarse after the relaxer just straight coarse now instead of kinky coarse .

After I had my daughters and realized just how beautiful they are naturally, I decided to start transitioning to natural hair. The 'addiction' becomes (when chemically altering the hair) second nature and considered a part of being a WOC. After 30, my hair changed! I'm calling my mother to actually find out just how long I'd been getting relaxers! (20+ years I suspect).

Maybe. But my natural curls for me are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy easier to deal with than when it was relaxed. Just wash it, leave-in cream, headband & air-dry. I could everyday, but that's annoying so i just section my hair in ponytails at night & wrap it & pull it all out & scrunch in the morning. Easiest way to stay away from the flat iron - no damage........

Why does this show braids as if they are NATURAL? You often use EXTENSIONS for braids and they are harsh hairstyle. They can pull your hair out!! i'm 15 and recently did my big chop in july so i'm working with a 2 in half inch afro when unstretched. I've got nothing but POSITIVE comments. and to tell the truth i was nervous about going back to school like this and almost ended up getting braids. I think that because i've been holding my head high and not seeming like i'm nervous or uncomfrotable with how i look might be a reason others can only feel the same way. it's only the start of the year but i'm hoping it continues like this

I've tried to before back in 7th grade but ended up getting a relaxer because my mom said i wouldn't be able to actually do it. I'm glad that this time i had my mind set on getting to where i am now. I have nothing against the girls who stay true to their 6-8 weeks touch ups but i think it's pretty cool when the younger females decide to end that. Hope everything is going well for you!!

Black women can have healthy hair with relaxers, only when its used incorrectly does your hair break off. People that have ball spots and incredible breakage overprocess.
In the past six years I have found a great hair dresser my hair continues to be permed and it grows past my shoulders and I havent been burned once since I have been going to this specific hair dresser.
Ive had a swen in weave twice not because my hair was damaged but because I wanted a little extra length.

I put braided extensions in when I get bored with my hair or when I want a break or when I want to where my hair straight. I have natural hair, and I let it breathe from time to time, and because I miss my hair. :) I haven't had a relaxer in so long that I walked into JCPenny's with my mom and the relaxer smelled so bad I almost choked. We both were like "What's that smell??" then we turned around and saw that there was a hair salon right next to us. We laughed because it had been that long.

Nice video. I used to like to wear my hair natural & it became nice & healthy. But not only did some blacks object but I was mistreated & discriminated against on my job. I would get hints about not getting a promotion bc of it & talked down about. After losing that job I decided to buy a wig for an interview & caught a terrible scalp infection when trying on wigs at a Chinese store which caused my hair loss. It got worse due to medications & Ive had to wear wigs while recovering.

Well this is true for some women. Me personally I relax my hair every 10 weeks and my hair is very long it's bra strap length, and it didn't take long to grow it either... I do not wear weaves I get my trims every 10 weeks. So What??

I prefer my current natural style rather than a permed/relaxed Euro-centric style. My mom relaxed my hair as soon as I hit 12 and I recently just broke my family cycle by letting my hair go natural. *Every woman in my family* has the idea that straight hair is prettier and more "manageable". I'm ashamed when I hear them talk like that. I'd rather have my natural, thick and full head of hair than my old stick-straight look. I'm 18 and I'm proud and happy to embrace my natural hair.
