When Jack tried to move his vehicle the By-Law officer actually ran around it so he couldn't have moved with out hitting her. When the police did show up all we were asking for was a chance to talk to them and explain the situation. The young officer who responded decided dialog was unimportant and busted out the cuffs right away. After this explosion, which drew 6 more cop cars, Jack and Niel were both released 30 min later with no charges. How much did that cost? By the way we all have jobs.

The only thing the police deserve is a lesson in public relations. It took some skill to turn a mellow afternoon of live music and political speakers into an arrest, in which both parties were released 30 minutes afterward. All the working families attending the event were parked on the curb, which is common practice at Polson. Instead of simply asking people to move their vehicles the by-law officer attempted to silently write tickets. Jack had to warn people and ask them to move their vehicles

I was a playing in a band at that event and I can tell you that the average person there was middle or upper middle class...not one homeless or transient person was there that I saw. When the arrest was made the crowd was surprisingly compliant, sure there were objections made but not one person was threatening the police or by-law officers. The old guy thought he knew the law by hanging onto his buddy and saying "I'm not touching you" to the police. What he didn't realize was that he was OBSTRUCTING POLICE, which is a criminal offence in this great free country called Canada. The 'Use of Force' that followed was completly justified. This guy had parked in a fire lane, then refused to move his vehicle several times over two hours. He only went to move it when the tow truck arrived. All they had to do was let the officers do their jobs and take it up with the press after.

Then they look up the parking rights AFTER the fracas? They should have known that before if he was going to park in the fire lane. You do your homework before you have a rally so that you are above fault. This was bush league.
